I really don’t care about iPhone colors until they make them 100% unbreakable from normal human drop height. And even then I’m unsure because without a case with at least some sort of grippy edge, phones tend to slide out of my pockets easily.
Clear cases do exist. ;)
I’ve never used a clear case that didn’t look and feel terrible and I’ve tried a lot, except Apple’s, which while I’ll assume is better than the others in most regards, has a really ugly white MagSafe mount that is visible.

Apple spends million in customer research/ surveys - they don’t just randomly pick colours. They pick what’s popular or what customers would like to see. Obnoxious to you but perhaps appealing to millions.
The colors they selected for the iMacs aren’t anywhere as garish as their phone colors. They put that stellar green-teal color on the iMac, but then picked a horse-poo green for the iPhone. Why?

I think they think that their pretension comes off as fancy, but every time I buy an iPhone my thinking is “Which one of these colors is the least ugly?” It doesn’t have to be that way.

It seems more and more people have stopped using a case actually. Not sure if this is because phones are more durable or because they are getting heavier and heavier so people want to keep them light, or if many people have discovered that they didn't really need a case all along. I have never used a case since my Nokia and Motorola days, or for iPhones, since the iPhone 3GS. Never dropped it once. Never any scratches or damages. Looks better. Feels lighter. But of course those who are prone to drop or scratch their phones should use a case.
I’ve never used a case and never damaged my iPhones either, and never babied them too. But for me it’s because I used small phones 3.5” - 4”. There was one stint where I tried a big phone and kept dropping it, so I went back to a small phone. My small phone has recently gone kaputz and I can no longer get a new small phone, so I was forced to a big phone, which for me means I have to start using a case. Sad.

At this moment, iPhone 15 (non-Pro) will be such an outdated POS that Apple might as well not release such a product and it would work out better.

Need to get a person that isn’t color blind to pick color of iPhone 15. Dark Red,Copper or midnight blue. Are 3 starting suggestions

With every iteration of the iPhone, Apple changes the available color options, often introducing a special color or set of colors that set new iPhones apart from the prior generation. With the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple introduced a dark purple, while the standard iPhone 14 was offered in a purple shade.

Apple's iPhone 15 and 15 Pro models will also come in unique colors, and 9to5Mac says that an unnamed source indicates Apple is working on iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models in a dark red, which is close to a burgundy shade. The color hex code is #410D0D, described as a dark sienna.

The standard iPhone 15 models could be available in new dark pink and bright, light blue colors. The pink shade, color hex code #CE3C6C is a deeper pink described as "telemagenta." The blue, color hex code #4DB1E2, is described as "picton blue."

The dark red shade that Apple may have planned for the iPhone 15 Pro models would likely be accompanied by standard (PRODUCT)RED devices in a brighter shade, along with more traditional shades close to silver/gold and space gray. iPhone 15 models could have more color options, including colors akin to red, black, and white.

Apple's dark red color would presumably be offered for the titanium finish rumored for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Apple so far has released titanium Apple Watch models in a standard silver titanium color and a darker titanium color, but red anodization would be entirely new.

According to 9to5Mac's source, the information on the color options is "still early" and "could change" closer to the fall, so the colors shared could be off. As Apple plans devices well in advance of when they launch, design choices will likely be solidified in the near future. Apple is expected to begin the EVT (engineering validation test) phase of iPhone 15 production in March.

Absolutely fascinating conjecture there.

The best compromise I can come up with is using Pitaka cases for my phones. Super thin, but still offers the protection I'd like.

Product Red iPhone 7 Plus and Sierra blue is the best color they’ve released as well.
Nah that Midnight Green on the 11 Pro did it for me for real.

Extra dope & M*A*S*H AF.

One color they really haven’t done is a metallic burnt orange kind of like a coppery rust color. More metallic than iPhone XS Max. Would like that.

Maybe something like…
Hex #C48723
“Muddy Golden Retriever Bronze” base tones
with notes of “Under-bleached Skid Mark Sepia”

This is petty as hell, but I ***** love my deep purple 14 Pro.

I've been waiting for USB-C iPhone for years and years and years—and yet, I'm considering waiting a while to upgrade not only because I'm typically not a year-over-year iPhone upgrader, but also because the Deep Purple 14 Pro is just too slick.

Red just ain't my jam.
I do tend to upgrade annually but Deep Purple turned out to be the color I didn't know I was waiting for.

On top of that, my particular 14 Pro Max has been fantastic. I've usually had some issue the last few years that made me want to trade in my iphone, like my 12 Pro Max's my messed up display or my 13 Pro's flickery display and wonky camera. Or 11 Pro's terrible battery and propensity to overheat. Previous iPhone's cheesy Intel modems drove me to upgrade.

I do love a deep red, but I can't imagine parting with this phone after only one year, either.

Mars Red? I like it.
If you put it that way 🤔it looks kinda cool.

Wait, what is this sorcery?

USB-C? Periscope cam? A fancy new colour?

Am I hyped for an iPhone that’s months away?! You bastards at Apple, you finally did it.
