Anyone know what the Pro Max zoom increments will be? I assume .5x 1x 2x (via cropping) but will the only optical telephoto be 5x? I find the 3x on my 12 Pro Max to be too long sometimes and midpoint zoom often looks crappy since it’s digital/cropping. Will these folded lenses support smoother zoom or 3x or 4x increments?

Best option for anyone trying photogrammetry for cheap. Because of its uniformity iPhone now has more exclusive photogrammetry apps which Android is lacking. Having that LiDar is turning out to be a game changer. This is the sole reason I am considering making a jump this time.

Also great for taking reference images.

iPad with Procreate & Nomad Sculpts & iPhone with photogrammetry are becoming great companion devices for any production artist. (Can't say the same regarding Mac)

well, had to find something negative to say, right?
well, had to reply to my comment to minimize a very valid criticism, right?

why should anybody complain about Apple charging a > 10x markup on storage prices? we should be thanking them for not increasing the prices due to the EU forcing them to use USB-C.

I feel hard done by paying £1529 for a iPhone 14 Pro Max 512GB last year now they’ve finally upgraded the storage. ☹️

Apple today announced that the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,199 in the U.S. with 256GB of storage, which means the 128GB configuration for $1,099 that was offered for the iPhone 14 Pro Max is no longer available.

The smaller iPhone 15 Pro continues to start at $999 with 128GB of storage in the U.S., just like the iPhone 14 Pro.

All of the new iPhone 15 models are available to order starting Friday, September 15, and will launch on Friday, September 22 in more than 40 countries and regions around the world, Apple said.

I was going with 256GB anyway. I prefer the smaller Pro form factor, but I'll throw $100 more at them to try out this new zoom lens. It's also nice having crazy good battery life when traveling. I'm glad they didn't make the displays larger with the bezel shrink.

I kinda think he Pro Max will get a periscope next year and the regular Pro will get this new lens. But perhaps Apple doesn't want the periscope because they don't want moving parts in the iPhone? Idk. Kinda disappointing because it would be nice to be able to zoom in somewhat without going all the way, but at least the price is decent.

To all those saying "wow it got cheaper in Europe" and being all flowers about it, I think it's the attitude like this that allows Apple to play games with the prices. And it's for our bad. Last year they went insane about pricing in Europe, so being "happy" they finally fixed this nonsense is not the reason to thank them. New prices are still ridiculous. Please have some self-respect and consider prices objectively, not just comparing to the previous year. If we continue to compare to previous year only, they'll keep increasing prices all the time and we'll be fine about it. Boiling frog syndrome at its finest.
I think you need to take a deep breath.

The correct way to compare:
- Take the US price at launch
- Look at the Euro to $ (or whatever currency) conversion rate at launch time (or a bit before) and convert it to euros
- Add your local VAT
- Look at the history of your currency relative to the $ and if it has been weakening add a buffer for risk management

You will notice that the huge increase in price last time was due to the euro weakening dramatically before the launch. There was also a buffer, but if you look at how long and steep the drop in euro value was, Apple would have taken a huge risk if they had not added it. Now the euro strengthed 10% and they cut the prices by pretty much the same amount.

This is very basics of doing business and really there is not much to it.

Looks like T-Mobile is offering $1000 for my 13 Pro. Easy upgrade for me. I was going to skip this one but with a "free" upgrade to the 15 Pro or a $200 to the Prom Max, that's basically a no-brainer to get a new phone.
How do you see what T-mobile is offering? I cant seem to find anything yet :/

I'm not liking this. I usually get the Pro Max and at the base storage configuration of 128gb, which is more than enough for my needs. Now I'm forced to get the 256gb variant and have to pay a 100 dollars more. No idea why Apple did away with the 128gb version.

Exactly all those rumors were total crap
Carrier deals. There’s a catch-the US based carriers will give you $800-$1000 depending on your model but that’s spread out over 36 months. It was 24 months when I got my 13 Pro, so this year I’m just trading my 13 Pro directly to Apple, using my Apple Card over 24 months.

If you believe what a lot of forum experts here on MR contribute,
in 2023 an iPhone is not useful with less than 256 GB of storage anyway.
Genuine question: What are the use cases where 256 GB is needed? Some combo of the following I believe?...
--Games. These days, some of them with high footprints can eat up 2 to 5 GB apiece
--Ginormous photo and video collections?
Esp. since photos are very high resolution. Ditto with videos with high framerates and that "Dolby" thing?

--That many sheer # of apps?
--Apps that eat up more space due to productivity?
So not just "Microsoft Office", but editing software like Garage Band, and their files?

.

I got 128 GB on my Pixel 6, and I've only used half of that space. I install new games every now and then, but they're not AAA games that take 3+ GB apiece. I take photos every now and then, but that's about it.

My 9th gen iPad has 64 GB and is mainly a gaming device. It should've been enough, but Apple Arcade did throw a wrench into the works. However, I ended up getting a Switch as a gift, so all of my gaming time has been sunk into that, so it kinda worked out anyways.

So about £3,000 in the UK then.

Hardly. The UK starting price of the 15 Pro is £100 (including VAT) cheaper than what the 14 Pro was last year. It's even £50 (including VAT) cheaper than what the starting price of the 11 Pro was back in 2019 which had HALF the storage.

The UK starting price of the 15 Pro Max with twice the storage is the same as what the 14 Pro Max was last year.

Was really hoping this meant a bump in the top storage as well, but no such luck. Wild that the iPad Pro has 2TB and iCloud will see substantial bumps in cloud storage, but the premium phone in their ecosystem goes into its third year without a corresponding increase.
