4GB was huge storage at this time though. Back in those days, most computer Hard disk drives were in Megabytes 😅
It’s insane how far we’ve come from there.

4GB was not "huge storage" at the time of the original iPhone release. In fact, Apple discontinued the 4GB model after just a couple of months of release in favor of only selling the 8GB model (https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2007/09/05Apple-Sets-iPhone-Price-at-399-for-this-Holiday-Season).

Also, desktop Macs came with multiple hundred gigabytes of storage, and laptop Macs came with over a hundred gigabytes of storage (http://apple-history.com/compare/imac_mid_07/mbp_mid_07). Granted, it was hard disk instead of solid state, but you specifically mentioned hard disk drives.

You have some crazy revisionist history going on.

There are so many rumours now about price increases especially on the Pro models. I even saw one rumour yesterday on a Brian Tong video that the 15 Plus was going to start at $899 and the 15 Pro Max at $1,299 which is a $400 differential making the Pro Max almost 50% more expensive than its non-Pro equivalent!

If the price jump really is that big then just titanium chassis, periscope zoom and new SoC on its own doesn't really seem to me to be enough to justify such a huge price difference so doubling the storage for each Pro model would seem to me to be necessary to add an extra justification for such a big price difference.

Welcome to the rest of the World. Those prices you have quoted were the increases in £ last year for the 14. The 14 Plus is £899, 14 Pro is £1199 and the 14 Pro Max is £1299. I’d be very disappointed if prices didn’t go up in the US this year.

All of your numbers appear to be wrong.

The 14 Plus starts at £949 (not £899) including VAT. Excluding VAT, it's around £790.
The 14 Pro starts at £1,099 (not £1,199) including VAT. Excluding VAT, it's around £915.
The 14 Pro Max starts at £1,199 (not £1,299) including VAT. Excluding VAT, it's around £999.

Based on the currency exchange rate at time of launch, those pre-VAT £ prices in USD were very similar to pre-sales tax prices in the U.S. The 14 Plus was actually cheaper in the UK.

One solution for you and other UK citizens would be to buy smartphones from UK manufacturers so as to not have to deal so much with exchange rate issues. Gee, aren't there any good options from UK companies?

I still can't fill half of my 256gb 13 Pro, but it's a welcome addition for those who need it!
Same for me ! 256GB is like more than enough for me haha 😅
But yeah it’s a good option for those who need it.

Oh yes, you’re right. I think I got those confused with the computers that came out in the 90s for some reason.. my bad.

But yep, I do remember the 8GB option being the most popular on the first iPhone.

Name one UK based smartphone company….

That was my point. Instead of UK citizens like yourself whining about prices of American products (even though as I noted, the pre-VAT UK launch prices of the phones you listed when converted to USD were very similar to and even less than pre-sales tax U.S. prices), perhaps you should urge local industry to come up with its own smartphones so that you don't have to deal as much with exchange rate fluctuations. While you're at it, maybe you'd also want to complain to the UK government that the VAT is too high.

I think consumers anywhere should be able to voice concerns over product pricing without being labelled as 'whining'.
Apple and every other manufacturer is aware of each countries consumer policies when juding the recommended retail price of a product and margins are adjusted accordingly. I won't explain any further as I have lost count how many times you have tried to have this debate with me over the past 11 months and neither of us have changed our opinions.
Lets aim for constructive discussions rather than trying to put others down and stay clear of political arguments.

I think we all need larger storage but just don't realise it yet. I've just been to Disney and filmed loads of video which then uploaded to the cloud which all worked great but then my wife said can you air drop it to me. which then takes forever because it has to start downloading again. Then I decide to do some edits with it on my iPad and it has to download it all again!

I know these are minor inconveniences but they are really annoying!

so I'd welcome larger storage BUT! for the love of god! when will the pricing come down!

The iPhone 14 Pro Max 1TB is £1,749 ($2,220) which is incredible and perhaps very niche due to its audaciously high price point. How much is a 2TB 15 Pro Max likely to cost? £2399?? Mental.

The 14 Pro Max in US dollars is $1599. Apple doesn't "do" conversions. I am guessing $1899 or $1999 for the 15 Pro Max/Ultimate. I don't think Apple wants to break the $2000 barrier quite yet.

They might not want to in their biggest and home market, but in Europe it would have to exceed £2k due to how much the 1TB currently is. It’s a hard sell that’s for sure.

Nobody likes a smarty pants 🤪

I would be excited for a 2 TB iPhone for sure!
I’ve always shot video in the highest format that is reasonable for the time keeping in mind that storage gets larger and cheaper over time.

Photography has been a hobby of mine since I was a kid. Live Photos are still one of my favorite features. I’m fortunate enough to be able to travel and like to take many photos and occasional videos on trips. All of these things require storage.

If you don’t enjoy these things or you think Live Photos are a nefarious plot by Apple to force you into larger storage then by all means enjoy your low storage iPhone.

I’ll be enjoying my 4K videos.

I have a 256gb 13PM and will go to a 512gb or 1tb option with my next phone whatever the flagship for the 15 or 16 is. This past year I literally ran out of space. With the costs of SSD’s today, I’d like to see a base of 1TB. I know it won’t happen. But it would be nice.

I haven’t seen enough of the rumors to say definitively that I am upgrading this year. It’s actually looking more and more like I’m going to renew Apple Care and wait until next September for Verizon or ATT to pull me into the new device with trade in.
