The average person can barely afford food and rent due to inflation, tech companies are firing workers despite record profits, Apple is holding back bonuses on it's employees.

But Tim the bean counter decides now is a good time to increase prices.
The majority of the geeks (including me) trolling these forums get a new phone every year. If you can't afford the latest and greatest, don't get one. (not financial advice)

It would also send a message to Apple: Hey, we don't like your overpriced phone.

Would they also increase it in Europe though..? They have been doing that for years now.
Pretty sure they’ll make it the US price converted at current rates plus tax and rounded up to the next “round” number, as usual.

At this point, there is no truth to the 'rumor.' Why are you blindly accepting it as fact and bashing Tim?

If many of them "one persons" would flex their power of "NO" as a group, we'd soon be seeing price DECREASES. Companies want the money more than any of us should want most non-essential products & services. If we could say no as a group, we would re-learn the great(er) power in the other end of the capitalism bargain. Instead, we gripe/whine and then just roll over and pay up, rewarding price increases which tells those who choose to implement them they are doing a great job.

Pretty much. Apple's data has been reported to indicate that they could increase prices on the Pro and Pro Max without serious sales impact (hence all these rumors of an "iPhone Ultra").

And many people are not dropping four figures in one go for their phones, but instead are paying monthly via the Upgrade Program or zero-interest installment plans so the impact to the pocketbook is far lower and therefore more tolerable.

I upgraded from an iPhone 12 Pro to an iPhone 14 Pro. I'm in Europe, so the price increase was significant. I must say that I am extremely disappointed with value for money of the iPhone 14 Pro. I got the phone for free (my boss pays for the phone), which is the only reason I'm not upset. To me, the 14 Pro is not worth more money than the 12 Pro. Period. I hope that Apple will add value before the iPhone 16 Pro (my next upgrade) to make it worth even more money. I have significant doubts though.

It’s amazing how much income disparity bifurcates the buyer base now

I just was on a trip with friends that all make mid 6 figures (some a lot more) … and all of them are totally price insensitive (for obvious reasons).

Every one always has the latest huge Pro phone and the pricing of any of it never even occurs to them.

I wonder how far Apple can take this before the lines on the graph become a problem.

I suspect they could double the Pro phone prices but not lose 50% of sales and thus still be “ahead”

It’s frustrating to watch, because I suspect bean counter Tim plans to test how high they can go, across the product lines.

The real frustrating part is that down the price ladder we get “old stuff”…as opposed to new things built to hit those price points.

Apple's next-generation iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will likely be more expensive than previous Pro models, according to Jeff Pu, a tech analyst at Hong Kong-based investment firm Haitong International Securities.

In a research note this week, Pu predicted the iPhone 15 Pro models will see a price increase due to several rumored hardware upgrades, including a titanium frame, solid-state buttons with haptic feedback from extra Taptic Engines, an A17 Bionic chip, increased RAM, a periscope lens for increased optical zoom on the Pro Max model, and more.

This is the second time that a price increase has been rumored for iPhone 15 Pro models, following an unverified claim on Chinese social media website Weibo in January, but whether Apple finally raises pricing for the devices remains to be seen. In the U.S., the Pro model has started at $999 since the iPhone X was released in 2017, while the Pro Max has started at $1,099 since the iPhone XS Max launched the following year.

Outside of the U.S., Apple has increased the prices of iPhones multiple times in recent years, largely due to foreign currency fluctuations. In the U.K., for example, the iPhone 14 Pro starts at £1,099, compared to £949 for the iPhone 13 Pro.

A price increase in the U.S. is plausible given above-average inflation rates. Apple has managed to keep starting prices unchanged for six straight generations of Pro models, but prices will likely have to increase eventually for the company to maintain its profit margins. It's unclear if the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus would also see a price increase over the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, which start at $799 and $899, respectively.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 15 series in September as usual. All four devices are rumored to feature a USB-C port, the Dynamic Island, and a slightly more curved frame, while over 10 additional features and changes are rumored for the Pro models.

"Since iPhone X" for sure, outside of the US Apple increased the prices significantly. In Germany it went from 1.149€ to 1.299€ with the 14 Pro.
I hope they won't increase their prices again. It's just a huge middlefinger in the face of customers outside of the USA.

Increases revenue and also lessens the cannibalisation of regular iPhone's sales by previous Pro models. Genius.

This was reported last year. With the USD so strong, inflation isn’t really an issue when dealing internationally especially with Chinese suppliers where inflation is almost nonexistent.

I also think with the economy ready to fail, Apple will need to keep prices for Americans steady. I do think if Apple decides to put 256GB standard in the Pro models, they could just sell that as the new standard price. I mean most of us upgrade the storage anyways. I haven’t bought an iPhone Pro Max for $1099 unlocked. I always spend at least $100 upgrade if not more.

The other thing Apple could do to truly change the pricing is introduce a new Ultra model. That would make sense for a higher price. We shall see.

But I am willing to bet the price of the iPhone 15 Pro with 256GB is the same price as the iPhone 14 Pro with 256GB.

Not surprised by the increase in Pro Price which I thought should have happened this year when they release the iPhone Plus Model again. Apple doesn't seems to have a problem in the Pro Market pricing segment, people are buying it anyway. They do have a problem with their mid range model though.

So the lineup be something like

$1199 iPhone Pro Max
$1099 iPhone Pro

$899 iPhone Plus
$799 iPhone 15

$799. iPhone 14 Plus
$699 iPhone 14

$599 iPhone 13

$429 iPhone SE

or by March 2024

$549 iPhone SE
$449 iPhone SE Mini

I am more interested in entry level, will they have two screen size for SE? And keep the entry model $399, or will they raise the price of iPhone SE to $499. ( iPhone Mini )
$800 for the standard iPhone 15 is not going to work.

Fine by me, they will just price themselves more and more out of the market. Tim Cook will start to see the company tank, innovating is not pointlessly increasing prices across all your products, including the one you make the most money from.

One of two things will happen here:
1.) I’ll keep my 12Pro another year and drop $89 on a new battery after it crosses 80% health mark.
2.) I’ll wait to see which carrier has the most aggressive offers and get the 15Pro at half price.

I got our two 12Pros from TMo for BOGO. Just had to pay the tax up front. $550 spread over 3 years isn’t terrible. Essentially $15/mo for a device that I probably couldn’t function without.
