Ultimately though, this might not be a big deal, most will just settle for the cheaper model.
For an iPhone X user upgrading to an iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Plus that would be a dramatic upgrade.

The premium iPhones are now in a different universe of buyers. If you are still on an iPhone XS Max or 11 Pro Max, upgrading to the iPhone 15 Pro Max or Ultra might be more significant for you.

iPhone 12 Pro/Max your upgrade might not be until 16 Pro/Max
iPhone 13 Pro/Max > iPhone 18 Pro/Max
iPhone 14 Pro/Max > iPhone 20 Pro/Max

And this is if you feel like its a worthwhile upgrade. Smart phones are solved problems.

In Europe the iPhone Pro price tag is already a joke. Can’t believe it’s going up again
No way, get out of here! The iPhone 14 already starts at around € 999 in Europe 😂
My bet is on a 1499€ starting price in Europe

Where overseas prices come in can depend a lot on the exchange rate around launch date. Much of the price increases were due to the stronger USD versus Euro, GBP, etc.

When looking at pricing in USD, many iPhone prices overseas had actually dropped last year. It was the stronger USD that made prices in local currencies higher.

Not surprised by this report at all. I just hope Apple is able to deliver some hard-breaking innovative features with the iPhone 15. We are due for a design change now you aren’t interested in folding phones.

Most people here cry if they hear folding phones which is the future.

Tell me what you would like?

It’s amazing how much income disparity bifurcates the buyer base now

I just was on a trip with friends that all make mid 6 figures (some a lot more) … and all of them are totally price insensitive (for obvious reasons).

Every one always has the latest huge Pro phone and the pricing of any of it never even occurs to them.

I wonder how far Apple can take this before the lines on the graph become a problem.

I suspect they could double the Pro phone prices but not lose 50% of sales and thus still be “ahead”

It’s frustrating to watch, because I suspect bean counter Tim plans to test how high they can go, across the product lines.

The real frustrating part is that down the price ladder we get “old stuff”…as opposed to new things built to hit those price points.
Other than the SE, there's nothing wrong in buying those "old stuff" iPhones. They work just fine. So it's the buyer's ego that is the limiting factor here. Apple is merely offering different products at different price points. Nobody forces you to buy the most expensive model, other than your own ego.

If many of them "one persons" would flex their power of "NO" as a group, we'd soon be seeing price DECREASES. Companies want the money more than any of us should want most non-essential products & services. If we could say no as a group, we would re-learn the great(er) power in the other end of the capitalism bargain. Instead, we gripe/whine and then just roll over and pay up, rewarding price increases which tells those who choose to implement them they are doing a great job.
Plenty of people are saying "no", just like plenty of people are saying "yes". That's how prices are determined. It's exactly the highest price enough people are still willing to pay, and the lowest price Apple is willing to sell at.

Prices only drop if interest actually declines, not if everybody pretends to not want something they obviously want. The market isn't a used car salesman and you can't "negotiate" that way.

Sadly, the Pro models will still sell like hotcakes despite the price increase.
Of course. Just look at people here who are upgrading every year themselves. And Apple's own statistics are showing it, thus it means the Pro iPhones are still "underpriced," and there's room for higher prices.

It's not sad. It's the fact.

For me I am enjoying my 14 ProMax 1TB so much that unless the a major increase in the telephoto is there I really do not see USB-C, 60 percent (rumored) speed increase (the phone is so fast already LOL) as an attraction for major price increase and I might finally sit a year out as I mentioned elsewhere. You already know me @TheYayAreaLiving 🎗 LOL and I am a sucker for the camera aspects. Our phones are already amazing we hold in our hands and other than camera for me I need little more. I agree if there were a major design change then perhaps.

So what would I want to make jump?

1) Increased optical zoom for iPhone 15 Pro Max: A supposed periscope telephoto lens, that could result in the device having at least 6x optical zoom, compared to 3x on iPhone 14 Pro models. And I want that zoom to be good enough to start doing some of the low end telephoto work I have to do now on my heavy Cannon DSLR And this would be a deal breaker in a 15 for me. I can wait for 16 then.

2) Faster USB-C port: iPhone 15 Pro models will feature a USB-C port with support for at least USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3 which would result in the devices having significantly faster data transfer speeds with a cable compared to existing iPhones with Lightning. That might be of interest for my file transfers to Mac and iPad. Of secondary importance and a no go without 1 above.

3) Increased RAM: iPhone 15 Pro models will/may?? be equipped with an increased 8GB of RAM, compared to 6GB of RAM as they do currently. Additional RAM can allow apps like Safari to keep more content active in the background, preventing the app from reloading content when reopened. Note this could interest me I probably spend half my daily web surfing on my 14 ProMax, gen 3 12.9 iPad Pro, secondarily, hardly any on macbook. Minor item but sure if 1 and 2 are true.

Few things I want that with above would be a go:

1) No more hole, cameras behind screen, bye dynamic island (not a big deal I barely notice but would be nice
2) Along with face sensor we have a good behind screen fingerprint ID sensor

Things frankly I am MEH about ;-)

  • A17 chip: iPhone 15 Pro models are expected to be equipped with Apple's next-generation A17 Bionic chip, Rumored 60 percent speed increase (big rumor I have to say for now) . Note: My 14 ProMax is darn fast as a human I am not sure doubling speed of my amazing current phone will make me much of a difference unless the camera has what I want.
  • Titanium frame: Like the Apple Watch Ultra, the iPhone 15 Pro models are expected to have a titanium frame instead of stainless steel. Note for me thats a big MEH, I like my 14 ProMax black just fine thank you. Yeah I do
  • Ultra-thin curved bezels: Similar to recent Apple Watch models, the iPhone 15 Pro will have ultra-thin curved bezels around the display. MEH for me I like the straighter look just fine.
  • Wi-Fi 6E: Like the latest Macs and iPad Pro, the iPhone 15 Pro will support Wi-Fi 6E for faster wireless speeds, according to a leaked schematic. I do not have the latest and greatest WiFi, local limitations of only most for me already too expensive LOL. And using my AirPort Extreme also and couple year old working fine cable modem. No Wi-Fi 6E in near future gotta save for my M2 or M3 16 inch MacBook Pro @TheYayAreaLiving 🎗 ha ha
  • Solid-state buttons: iPhone 15 Pro models will feature solid-state volume and power buttons, Note we will see but a big MEH for now. Maybe better waterproof
  • Mute button: iPhone 15 Pro models are rumored to be equipped with a mute button for turning the ringer on and off. All existing iPhones have a mute switch. Note a non mover for me I am happy with existing switch frankly
  • Improved LiDAR Scanner: iPhone 15 Pro models will have a more power-efficient LiDAR Scanner supplied by Sony, which could improve 3D depth scanning performance for AR apps and Night mode photos, according to Kuo. Note not a big thing unless it is coupled with things above I would like to see in 15 ProMax or whatever it is called.
  • Dark red color option: A new dark red color option will be available for iPhone 15 Pro models, according to 9to5Mac. Yuck not my thing I go for silver, grey or the black this year over these colors just not me.

We will sling the new standbys of "inflation" and "supply chain" with maybe a sprinkle of "covid" at each other to be followed by Apple Inc reporting record profits. Apparently inflation/supply chain/covid only affects us consumers. :(
Did y'all not read the article? "...several rumored hardware upgrades, including a titanium frame, solid-state buttons with haptic feedback from extra Taptic Engines, an A17 Bionic chip, increased RAM, a periscope lens for increased optical zoom on the Pro Max model, and more."

Price whiners do not have to buy in to paying for phone upgrades if they choose not to.

Pretty sure the reason it didn't is because the 2022 lineup was an experiment to see how well Pro models could sell if they made some shiny new improvements to them, and basically didn't update the standard models at all. That bet paid off big time, better than they expected. Now they plan to continue this trend while raising the prices of the Pro models.

We're now moving into an era where the "Pro" models are actually the only new models each year, with the standard models being a hybrid of new/old, not entirely new the way they were for the first 15 years.
That actually makes perfect sense. Hadn’t thought of it that way.

You can agree or disagree with this price hike, but the vast majority of Americans won't even notice a difference. When you upgrade, the carriers are essentially begging you to upgrade. For example mine paid me $800 to trade in my 3 year old phone, then let me pay the difference broken up over the next 3 years. So for $12 a month, I have a 14 pro. An extra $100 for the phone is an extra $2.78 a month. I know that phone carriers are different in other parts of the world, but for the American market, an extra $100 negligible.

Back in the days of iPhone 3g, 4, 4s etc. a yearly upgrade provided quite significant upgrades. After iPhone X the need for upgrading decreased to 2-3 years as the processor had reached a threshold where it could do a lot of stuff such as 4k without hiccups. So the price is ok for me since I STILL use the iPhone X and iPhone 6s+ as permanent international phones for banking sms texts and uber abroad. I upgraded to 14 and will probably upgrade to 15 PRO so I can offload my RAW photo files faster off the camera. I use these as a business tool for my profession and they are worth every penny and have actually made me money from photos/video sales. Having a phone that last for 7 years(such as 6s+) is also an amazing value.

HaHa. If enough say no, prices will decrease. Even mighty Apple Inc wants the revenue much more than Apple product buyers need the next new <Apple thing>. The buyers just don't seem to recognize that... or care (yet).

@Mr. Dee a nice list. The advent of the AUP leasing scheme of only paying half the price for year and moving up has made it affordable on my pension even from State of Illinois. But as I posted in earlier reply to my good friend @TheYayAreaLiving 🎗 there would have to be a number of reasons for me to jump this fall for the 15.

Now I doubt I would go from 14 to 20 however. I could see though going from my 14 no sooner than 16 Pro/Ultra, but perhaps going to a 17 on three year cycle. Put my monthly money away after paying the 14. Then when time comes after 3 years with saving my typical AUP monthly fee would have enough to buy new phone outright ad also get out of the craze to have my phone opening day and the often snafus that made me get there half time in last 5 plus years LOL (a true first world problem for sure)

The phones are getting to the point that they are so powerful and loaded with many tools and features that I do not even use half of them LOL. So if they do not put some major camera things I like I am getting to the point with enough iPhone for my every use at moment. But as @TheYayAreaLiving 🎗 mentioned in the post I replied to, a major innovation and all bets are off for me as they were for her.

Yes, I did. No article will ever rationalize a price increase with "Company wants to make more money per unit sold." There is always a logical-sounding reason(s) for price hikes. For any hardware actually increasing in cost, there is probably other hardware being negotiated DOWN in price. We see those articles too but they don't seem to translate into lower pricing. Sim tray being ejected? Silicon Macs not having to pay Intel the CPU premium. Etc.

It's not like every single iPhone part inside can only stay the same cost or increase each year. For those that go up, others can go down. Apple is apparently great at pressing suppliers for bargain prices. We see regular articles about that too... but those don't seem to translate into price cuts.

If by Pro they really mean PRO then yes. As long as they make some neat affordable iPhones on par with some android. Otherwise the innovative company will become a luxury company following trends then a has been company …

EU came down hard on Apple, and Apple shifted that burden on European customers. 🤣🤣

Not really. It was the exchange rate (stronger USD) that pushed prices up in local currencies overseas. For example, the pre-VAT price of a 128GB iPhone 14 Pro in Germany is around 1,086 € which at the exchange rate in late September was around $1,043 USD. That's pretty much the same pre-sales tax price of a 128GB iPhone 14 Pro in the U.S. ($999).

The average person can barely afford food and rent due to inflation, tech companies are firing workers despite record profits, Apple is holding back bonuses on it's employees.

But Tim the bean counter decides now is a good time to increase prices.
He has a fiduciary duty to shareholders to increase profits and returns. He’s not running a not for profit.
