Funny thing. I am an android refugee who came over because of android security concerns. The ONLY way IOS beats android is (maybe) security. Android is far more flexible and perhaps this makes it not as simple to use as IOS but its much more powerful IMO. And don't get me started with Windows vis-a-vis MacOS. I am very familiar with Windows 7/10/11, various MacOS versions and several Linux distros. IMO Windows 11 beats Linux and MacOS is a distant third. Try it - you may like it!
I'm there already with Windows. When Apple basically killed bootcamp (via Silicon) and my main Intel Mac conked, I had to resurrect bootcamp the old fashioned way: buy a PC too. Since PC makers don't demand Apple's super-fat margins, I chose to allocate MBpro-like pricing to get a pretty loaded PC. I have to say, I'm stunned at both Windows 11 and the power. The whole overheat/nuclear furnace thing seems farrrrrr overblown and I am yet to be deafened (or even hear) "jet engine" fans.
Since PC is much better for gaming, I finally have a robust gaming PC as a bonus... which can run the mainstream popular games, including many NOT available on my Mac.
The recently dead Mac was an iMac 27" so I lost my best screen at the same time. So I replaced the Mac tech guts for macOS with a Mac Studio and replaced the screen with a Dell 40" ultra wide 5K/2K. That Dell has multiple video inputs, so it is easily shared between my new main Mac and my new PC (both connected at the same time). It can even split screen to have both on screen at the
same time (which is more like Parallels than bootcamp, MINUS the parallels annual subscription rate).
The Dell also has a hub built into it that is not limited to just a few Thunderbolt ports, so I am also sharing existing keyboard and some other hubs between both Mac and PC.
It all works really well together. While I still prefer macOS, I can clearly see that Windows 11 has taken huge strides even from what was a pretty good version in 7. If it came down to it, I could change teams and not overly miss Mac.
I suspect Android is probably equivalently good vs. my preference for iOS... and that switching- if I had to or Apple went crazy with pricing- would not be the devastation pot of misery "we" often spin to each other around here either.
Competition is good and this competition is tangible, real competitors with offerings that most of the world uses and enjoys. If Apple gets too crazy, it's good to have viable alternatives.
