As an iPad user, I find 128gb storage ample for my uses, am I missing something with 128gb now being "dated"?
Thinking about it, maybe people just want more space for photos and videos, seeing that the pro phones are more focused on camera work... It makes sense, but if you want more space then pay for that space, since not everyone needs it...Same. Not sure what I'm missing. Guess I need to download more apps that I'll never use...
Frankly I think increasing RAM is more important given how many apps people generally have open at a given time.

Oh. I usually have a "Device Monitor" widget on my device that shows storage, CPU and RAM usage, etc. It updates about every 5 minutes which is enough for me to see a recent feed. ^-^I think that's most of it. Looking at the storage on my phone, I can see that my photos are almost entirely in the cloud, not on the phone. If they were, I'd be using about 75 GB instead of the 50 I'm using now. It still doesn't mean I'd need more than 128 though.
It made me realize I don't look at the "iPhone Storage" setting much. I just freed 5 GB by deleting downloaded podcast episodes.
Indeed. And Android phones have had 16 GB RAM many years ago already. What is MacRumors even complaining about even?
MacRumors also really believe "8GB RAM is all you need" on a laptop. I'm not making this up.
Me too, but most here are probably more tech savvy than the average Joe.I’d pay for it if they offered it. I suspect there are a lot of people on this forum who would pay for it as well, although we may not be an accurate representation of the general population.
Some need more. For example, I keep lossless music on the phone, I have a lot of it, and this takes a lot of storage. I don't want to pay for Apple Music, I don't think it's worth the cost. In the past I paid for it and when I unsubscribed it completely destroyed my library (with my own music), so I won't repeat the experience.Same. Not sure what I'm missing. Guess I need to download more apps that I'll never use...
I mostly stream music, so the local library on my phone isn't much. I do have many photos going back years (not so many videos), but I guess they're mostly in the cloud.
You just realized this? This penny pinching company has been doing it for years. They still sell 250gb hard drives for their computers!!Not going to lie, 128gb base storage in 2023 in a flagship iPhone is a bit embarrassing...
So there's not a more advanced camera, or SoC, or USB-C port, with Thunderbolt speeds on the Pro Max version? Nothing else has changed that -might- increase production costs?
Gotcha. 🤔
What bothers me is that I feel like you guys genuinely believe that I’m being irrational here. Improvements are meant to come at similar price points. If the price increases every release, nothing’s made more accessible; there are just higher and higher “tiers” introduced every year.At the same time you see 48 MP main camera for the normal phones, titanium and 8 Gb at the pro and other improvements.
Until you’re in a hotel, their Wi-Fi maxes out at 2MBPS download, and it’s located somewhere with poor cellular coverage. This has happened to me twice this year. When you have no streaming and no cloud, having that extra onboard storage space sure comes in handy, particularly if you’re in a national park or somewhere you’re inspired to shoot photos and 4K video and you’d like to listen to music.
Some people like to keep all of their photos, videos and movies on their devices, due to reasons like spotty service sometimes, or they just like having it on their phone.I have an iPhone 13 with 128 GB of storage and I’m not even using half of it yet. Not sure why so much storage is needed. Do people just have hundreds of 8K videos and 48 MP RAW photos or something?
May I ask why on earth you would need music, or any technology for that matter, to soak in our national parks?
Enjoy being present and connect with nature. You’ll be surprised how amazing it is when you’re not looking through a screen. No one ever looks at those photos anyways.
Same here.I'll gladly pay $100 more for a titanium frame, 2GB more ram, periscope lens and USB-C over a 14PM.
Some people very much are. 💡You're no Ansel Adams out there with your iPhone
You state "Apple can claim all day long how “efficient” iOS is, but a bottleneck is a bottleneck."It’s wild, there’s a strange contingent on MacRumors that for some reason doesn’t want Apple to ever upgrade the iPhones ram. You can often see these same people saying they won’t buy another Apple computer until it has terabytes of ram. Yet a device that does so much, that we carry on us all day long, that has the lowest ram of any phone in its class, then all we hear is complaints. Like why wouldn’t anyone want the iPhone to work better? Do people enjoy apps reloading every time they use the camera?
You can’t beat physics, Apple can claim all day long how “efficient” iOS is, but a bottleneck is a bottleneck. Android phones with higher ram multitask better and don’t suffer these problems caused by Apples stinginess with ram.
In Android flagships you don’t have to worry about the phone bogging down because there isn’t enough ram, who wouldn’t want more in a phone that can cost over 1500 dollars that they might keep for 3-4 years?
Weird place.

I think that the reason why Android phones have more RAM than on iPhones, is because Android phones have more configurations, using Java, etc. as well as to run everything smoothly, as not all Android phones are quite optimized like iPhones are. It’s wild, there’s a strange contingent on MacRumors that for some reason doesn’t want Apple to ever upgrade the iPhones ram. I hadn’t heard of M-DISC but just checked their site. Looks interesting! 🤔M-DISC is the longest lasting archival option. They can last thousands of years with proper storage (and storing them properly isn't all that hard, just keep them away from moisture and excessive sunlight). For simple backup though they're just inconvenient. It's best to have a backup solution that's convenient and an archival solution that will last long for storing the data you don't need frequent access to, like photos and video.
Hearing that you deleted pictures and videos for space is a kick in the gut. Can you use iCloud at least until you can get an iPhone with more storage?Hopefully 128 is enough. My 11 Pro has 64 and I ran out of room about a year ago. I had to clean up apps, have them offload, and I went through my pics/videos and deleted anything I really don't need.
If the 15's amazing, I may opt for 256 just for longevity.
You state "Apple can claim all day long how “efficient” iOS is, but a bottleneck is a bottleneck."
You are wrong. It really is about how efficient OS and apps are. Extra RAM is of no value unless it is used. And a phone with one OS and 1.2x RAM does not necessarily perform better than a different OS with 1x RAM.
If there is a RAM bottleneck then yes we need more RAM. But I have not seen "...these problems caused by Apples stinginess with ram [sic]."
