I miss these thin iPhones.
The current ones get thicker and heavier all the time. And don't get me started on these humongous camera bumps......
I know, bigger batteries and better cameras need space.
My opinion might not be very popular, but I would prefer thinner and lighter phones, in return for not quite as advanced cameras and batteries.
I don't need more telephoto lenses etc. that make camera bumps ridiculously big.
I would be fully ok with a thin battery that lasts one entire day, get up to bedtime.
I remember times when smaller phones were almost a status symbol, and manufacturers put their development efforts into making phones smaller and thinner. Today, bigger and bulkier seems better.

Thinner bezels doesn't matter that much as a hard shell case will still wrap around and hide the edges of the display. Also the thinner the bezel is the more chance of accidental dropping damage, maybe. Time will tell. ;)

IMHO I think they need to keep the aspect ratio the same, so if it was made a bit wider it should be a bit taller.

This stupid focus on thinner bezels. And just for the looks? I don't see the practical use of it.

Edgeless phones: when I try not to touch something on the outer border of the screen it easily slips out of my hand. No easy way to grab it firmly. And as you said most protective cases will indeed wrap over the outer edge and then often also covers buttons placed there on the screen. Especially those annoying ads on websites do this (and some apps too).

Suggestions for Apple:
1) A sensor that detects how the phone is held and tries to ignore any finger that goes around the edges. For those that don't use cases.
2) An iOS option to adjust the user screen size. This to compensate the bigger edges of protective cases that cover the outer screen edge. Especially useful for those extra rugged protective cases like the ones from Otterbox.

That's what the base models are for. In exchange for not having the latest cameras and that stainless steel band, they get to be lighter and the camera bump is less obtrusive.

The point isn't whether your opinion is popular or not, but that a stripped down offering already exists for people like yourself who feel like they are being increasingly over-served by Apple's high-end offerings.

my comments refer to the pro AND the non-pro models.
I have the 14, and it still feels too heavy and too bulky for my likes. The shape & weight of the pro models make it even worse for people like me.

ad 1): not even an additional sensor would be needed. An orientation sensor is already included. The rest could be achieved easily by software. Think about the battery/time displays in the upper iPhone corners. Nothing happens if you tap on them. Or the empty areas on the home screen. All sw.

right there with you...the bezels are thin enough. Any thinner and it will make holding the phone almost inpossible without touching the display
You are already at least occasionally touching the display with the skin between your thumb and index when holding the phone, you just don't notice because it blocks those accidental inputs.

Apple please, there is a small group of us that want the Mini back. Please, please, please, 🙏 🙏🙏🙏🙏

We are like 10% and won’t buy a new one just because the lack of the Mini factor. We don’t need a bigger phone. We look forward to iphone Mini 16 or we would just dona battery change to our Minis.

I just changed the case of mine and now it looks new again!

The top or bottom isn't the problem, its the left and right sides. If I don't use a case, I get unwanted clicks, moves (even deleting apps from the home screen) or even gestures.

well....yes?
What I said was meant as an example that your request could be achieved by sw, and no additional sensor was needed.
SW can disable touch sensitivity on any given area of the screen, also on the far left and right sides.
It's just that Apple has to do it.

The big space at the bottom where the finger print sensor was gave me a place to grip when taking photos in awkward places like inside a machine of some sort. Now any place I touch can get from picture to portrait or landscape which is maddening as I extricate from the difficult place and see not what I wanted.....

Am I the only one who doesn't care about ultra thin bezels? I feel like if this is causing issues, there's more useful things I'd rather they spend time focusing on. In fact, here's a design idea: make the phone slightly thicker to make the camera bump less obnoxious, and to allow for a bigger battery.

it’s funny how times have changed. Back here in 2013/2014 many people were screaming for thinner bezels on the 5s/6 models.

take me back to 2010. Excitement levels for new iPhones were through the roof.
