Every Mac should have 16GB minimum, that whole 'memory is better managed on a Mac' that's always being used to justify Apple only offering base 8GB has also been rebutted dozens of times.
Yes, it’s also not right to charge the amount that they do for the upgrade to 16GB! Better longevity for the future too, when looking at used items it’s rare to find a 16GB M1. I would personally have had the lineup as:

(If they have to keep 8GB for the base M2)
8GB/256GB
16GB/512GB
16GB/1TB

Then the Pro/Max should be:
16GB/512GB Pro
32GB/1TB Pro
32GB/1TB Max
64GB/1TB Max

It’s so weird to have to get a CTO to get more than 8GB on the base M2.

More RAM is needed. Current RAM cannot handle 500 opened tabs properly.

Well, yeah.... lol.

I haven't noticed my 12 Pro Max slowing down any but I'll always welcome more RAM.

Not quite sure yet if I'll bother upgrading to the 15 Pro Max/Ultra. My 12 PM hasn't given me any reason to get rid of yet.
Agree, our family is on the upgrade path of either getting an incredible upgrade deal with T-Mobile, or an advanced camera update from Apple.

Outside of responding to text messages, using CarPlay, and the occasional phone call, or 13‘s have enough “horsepower” to last 10 years.

I have a 13 Pro Max and other than getting USB-C, I don't think there will be a ton of changes. I've felt a big drop off on these rumors of new options anyway. The M2 Pro/Max rumors were all over the place and I haven't really seen an explanation of why or who was wrong and I frankly don't care enough to research it...and yes its weird that I'm willing to complain about it.

I'll want one immediately after launch because of the video showing how great they say it is, but then after we will find either they were overstated (camera improvements of 13 to 14) or there are issues (crash detection). I just don't think we are at a point anymore where new phones every 2-3 years are as necessary as it used to be.

I'm also a bit concerned with how CarPlay will work with wired iPhones on USB-C. Android is its own support nightmare but when I had a Pixel 2 XL Google stopped supporting Android Auto on it because of all the issues they had with power connectivity.

Don't worry about CarPlay. I'm sure Apple will have a USB-C to USB-A proprietary adapter available for only $50.

This is getting to be quite a mouth-watering upgrade from my X, which has to reload some apps pretty much every time I switch away and back.

Honestly I don't care what they do, I just want the battery life to be improved. My 14 Pro has a garbage battery life. I still miss my 11 Pro battery life, that blew away my X/12P/13P and definitely my 14P.
Its not getting through the day? I"ve had the pro max 12 and have the 13 now and I found both to be great,
more than a day if i've been traveling. Are you using it to game a lot? just curious how long you are getting out of it.

I agree that they can keep their 8GB if they would just have a reasonable upgrade prices, a 100 dollar upgrade to 16GB would be more than fine (for storage though they would have to more like quarter the upgrade prices to make it sort of remotely based on flash storage prices).
