It sounds as though they have increased the photodiode size which means more photons given same sensor size (i.e. more dynamic range which I think the "...backlit.." senario means). Good for Sony who never gets enough credit for the quality available in small sensor [phone] cameras.

It still won't beat the 1 inch sensors some of the phones already have (on the technical side, otherwise those phones have ****** image processing). Also they need to add a special coating to reduce lens flare (like those mentioned phones) because they've been clearly lacking in that area.
Yeah the lens flare is just embarrassing. You see lights no matter what in lower light

Not even most camera manufacturers make their “own camera”. Many shop the sensors from Sony.
Some of these companies design their own sensors and have Sony manufacture them, while others buy sensors that Sony has designed. That division of Sony is different from Sony's consumer electronics devision.

90% sure this will not be on the base iPhone 15, why even bother? Do away with the pro and just make the best iPhone. Apple today reminds me of a car dealership.
100% accurate. Apple is garbage today. Corporate heads run the company now, not design. When that happens you start to get the downfall of a company, and we are seeing it in Apple now.

They used to just make ‘the best product period’. Now they make so many different products of varying qualities it’s insane

People are cheap. They need a cheap option.
They had a cheap option, always. It was called prior year phones. Back then people actually got more for their money with the prior year phones too.

Apple’s idea was to start selling perceptibly ‘new’ phones with years-old features so that they could trick customers into purchasing at higher prices

It's like the same thing every year, hype and more hype, for Apple, it's the biggest upgrade and most powerful iPhone, and we get sucked into it and they'll sell millions.

Whatever the sensor going to be and how amazon it'll be, most will end up buying it, be it like a car dealership or not lol, an excellent point you made there @WWPD.

Sources please
FujiFilm, for example, designs its own X-Trans sensors, the newest one is based on the 40MP Sony Sensor with a Fuji designed color array, but they don't manufacture it. Here is an older article about Nikon :

Many people can't afford ‘the best product period’.

Thus, Apple has iPhone options for the millions of people who are only able to pay less.

Hardly insane, that's very smart. Happy customers, happy Apple, unhappy competitors.
