The 1m length has always been stupid.

1m is a standard audio interconnect length, and the first of these cables was for an iPod, which was an audio device.

Then the iPhone arrives and they keep that length without realizing or caring that it’s difficult to use the devices while plugged in. Not so important when you are just using headphones to listen to music and pick it up to change tracks, but really important when you need to hold the phone to your ear.

This is the most exciting new feature of the iPhone 15. I cannot wait. I will immediately trade in my iPhone 14 Plus Max for this new longer braided cable. Not.

I'm interested in how your cables are failing. The only problem I've had with Apple cables is at the point where the cable and the connector meet. I have found that if I'm careful in how I roll it up they last for years.

As I said in another post, I had a cable start to turn yellow and split, while inside the box. I never used it nor even touched it. Others frayed at the connection point.

My later cables have held up.

We need this iPhone dock in a new USB-C format.

There have been rumors since 2021, and when they shifted the iPad to usb-c, everyone knew the phone would be close behind.

Lightning is a 10 year connector, just like Tim stated. That time is up.
Since 2021?

EU considered USB-C as a standard before then https://www.macrumors.com/guide/eu-charging-standard-proposals-and-apple/

Option 1: Cables must have a USB-C port at the device end (effectively outlawing Apple's Lightning connector).

Also it seems like they were considering it since 2016
By 2016, the Commission acknowledged that micro-USB had become dated and that USB-C had become the de facto standard across most devices. The Commission was advised by MoU facilitators that all manufacturers were ready to sign a new agreement in line with different approaches but keeping the solution of using solely USB-C connectors – except Apple.

You're wrong.

I am still waiting for a braided lighting cable from Apple. And a braided MagSafe 1 cable.

Can we have a Braided USB to USB-C, please? I only prefer to charge my iPhone with a 5W Apple adapter. Slow Charging! I need this cable with USB-C.

iOS is going to be able to manage the battery health better than we can by trying to second guess things. It can control how fast/slow the charging is to keep the battery as optimal as it can. My nearly 1-year old 14 Pro Max is at 97% max battery capacity and that's after a year of charging with whatever bricks, car chargers, etc, and charging overnight, every night, with a MagSafe charger. i.e., I don't really think about it and let the phone make the decisions. Seems to work out just fine.

environmental disaster. thanks EU
Still doubling down and dying on this nonsensical ant hill.

I'll double down as well: Apple caused this mess by (again) not switching the iPhone over when the rest of the line switched. Made no sense then and still makes no sense. You can have your own opinions but you can't create your own facts. The old cables can all still be used and repurposed. Old iPhones don't magically cease to exist and neither do appropriate adapters for said cables.

But I do agree, thanks EU, for dragging Apple in to 2023 kicking and screaming to the benefit of the consumer and environment.

Edit: Grammar and context.

You made the same argument last time and when I replied, you said "Yeah, I've seen enough from this one." and stopped the discussion. Now you're starting the same argument over again?

Do you want to discuss this or have you "seen enough" from me?

Time heals and it's a new day. I was done that day, that thread. You repeated yourself as did I. But unlike you I add some necessary nuance and context. You just whine because you've convinced yourself of something you want to be true because you love Apple (evidently), defend them at all costs and apparently love an inferior, proprietary connector that should not exist and, yes, is an environmental drag in the grand scheme.

There's no "discussion" here. Neither of us are going to change our minds so it's pointless. But maybe others care about my reasoning why (I believe) you're wrong. Besides I've already laid out my case before and now. Nothings changed.

So you don't care what I have to say, don't want to discuss it with me, but will always repeat the same argument in response to mine hoping someone else cares and you'll discuss it with them? And if they disagree, you'll paint them as they convinced themself of something they want to be true because they love Apple, to defend them at all costs? Or are you just here for others to only agree with you (genuine question)?

I don't understand your endgame here.

You accuse me of making up facts but won't listen to what I have to say. How is this valuable to anyone?

Hard to believe, as it will also inevitably increase iPhone box sizes. Besides, have you seen the USB-C cable coming with Beats Flex? It’s super short, like 5 cm, if I remember correctly.

Colour-matching them also seems strange, considering all Apple’s environmental manifestos. What happens if a particular colour model does not sell well? All the respective cables to the bin?
If a specific color model doesn't sell well, and you were actually stuck with them, then you would have a much bigger problem with the unsold phones than with the cables. But typically, the way to solve this is to just stop manufacturing the unpopular color. Since Apple sells three generations of phones, they will eventually sell the inventory.

I won’t be able to use that in my car since it doesn’t have any usb c ports, only usb a. Now got a new problem on my hands.
C to A adapters are available.
