Sorry but for the price they should have WiFi 7, it has not been ratified so Apple has zero excuses not to include it. You are in effect paying a premium price for old tech, especially when the competition flagships include WiFi 7 already.

RCS is gonna be more important than whatever the hell else Apple tries to sell you with the iPhone 16.
Is there anything you think Apple manage to do well? 🤔
I'm all for criticism and opinion, but I don't think I've ever seen you write anything positive about Apple.

Implementing RCS sounds good to me, by the way! :)

Sounds like the 16 and 16 Pro are possibly going to have the exact same A18 SoC this time, and the 16 Pro is instead going to be differentiated by being larger (6.3" screen).

Apple customer as Apple sees them: I don’t want more ram, more storage or longer battery life, I want more smart buttons, increased size, heavier iPhone, more lenses and if possible a new ultra model even more expensive and uglier than the rest.

i have the 15 pro max, I'm connected to a wifi 6e access point which i can directly see in my room just 4 meters away from me, no obstructions and it sucks when the ipad also connects to the same network, even when doing nothing. so 2 devices on wifi 6e, nobody around me has wifi 6e, and it suffers. From 950mbit to appletv with iperf (appletv connected with gigabit ethernet to access point), with 2 devices, it goes down from 950mbit to around 80 mbit after ipad is connected.

Quite disappointing how unreliable this is. i was hoping wifi 7 to resolve this but seems we'll wait 2 years for it at least.

I would hope at this point they’d skip 6E and go straight to 7
It's just Tim Cook being his regular greedy self again. He'll likely save Wi-Fi 7 for the iPhone 17. That will get many people to upgrade to the iPhone 17 when it comes out, thus generating more profits for Apple. Also, the small amount of money per unit he'll save by not including Wi-Fi 7 on the iPhone 16 will add up over millions of units sold, thus generating even more profits for Apple. Cook prioritizes profits far above making products that serve as the best tools for customers. That is one way in which he highly differs from Steve Jobs.

Now it’s time to increase base ram on Mac, or will they wait until Apple Watch has 8 gigs?
Do you mean storage or RAM? They can’t increase the RAM without increasing the CPU spec. Plus most don’t seem to complain about the RAM in Mac base models? But they do need to boost storage really. Talking about the Mac.

How many people upgrade their iPhone because a new WIFI standard is introduced?

I hope Tim tells them to get a new WIFI 7 router too. They're probably using the crappy router from their cable company.

:p

It’s crazy how much cheaper it is to buy your own modem for $75 and not pay the cable company $15 a month for years on end to rent it.

Seriously, $15 a month = $180 a year, over twice what it costs to buy your own outright.

My parents refused to listen to me about this, but one of my sisters was smart enough to see the light.

Wi-Fi 6E? It should have been Wi-Fi 7!

Wifi 7 is currently in the phase of device certification, planned completion is the end of 2024. The first fully compatible devices will go on sale in the 3rd and 4th quarter of this year. and let's remember that it will be the first generation of devices and a whole bunch of problems, as it was in the case of wifi 6. I will patiently wait for the 2nd generations till next year. the current wifi 6 and 6e is enough for me completely

There is a difference between the actual standard and the Wifi certification. It's not uncommon for manufacturer to release hardware that already works with the standard, with certification to follow later.

What I mean is, that the hardware for Wifi 7 is already available, and Apple could use it even before the certification is ready.

People disappointed with Wi-Fi 6E better worry about power consumption of 7,
6E still great for a mobile device but I would laugh hard if they ship with Type C USB 2.0 🤣

You're right, but apple will wait as usual. for wifi 6 2x2 160 mhz we had to wait until october 2022 when they introduced it to ipad pro, then mbp in january 2023 and iPhones in september 2023. so we had to wait a little bit 🤪

They already released the A17 ‘Pro’ with the 15 Pros, so the 16 will likely get a ‘normal’ A18 with the 16 Pro having the beefier A18 Pro (higher clock speed and better GPU maybe). Both chips will have the same underlying architecture though.

It does make me laugh, all those requests for Wi-Fi 7. How many of you actually have a network that can take advantage of that? Have a broadband cable or fibre connection that actually supports the theoretical speeds? Use websites on your phone that need such speeds and can provide them?

In what real-world situation is a 2.4Gbps Wi-Fi connection on your phone not enough? Or is everyone now all of a sudden, having 8Gbps internet connections and want the full 5.8Gbps from WiFi7 on your phone?

Sure, I'd love the latest and fastest as much as anyone, but come on. At these speeds that are available already it is plenty for most, and way faster than most peoples broadband connections, let alone crappy ISP routers and home Wi-Fi can support.

I think it's less about bandwith and more about how the devices perform in very densely populated areas with sometimes dozens of AP competing for limited airtime.

But I agree, if you live in suburbia or even a rural area, the benefits of Wifi 6 or even 7 are rather limited. In these scenarios I think range is much more important.
