This could be the year iPhone plateaus. We haven’t had any hints of any breakthrough hardware technologies for a bit now 📉

While I realize my tiny little slice of this world is hardly representative, no one I know cares at all about Apple Intelligence. It’s seen as nothing more than a gimmick/novelty.
That's probably because all of the features they've announced to this point really do seem like gimmicks. It feels more like a play for Apple to stay relevant in AI (and to sell more iPhones). I'll test out Apple Intelligence with the next update, but I'm not waiting with bated breath for it.

Teens are becoming smarter and realizing that the whole blue bubbles thing is really dumb, but it has been the main and only reason Apple is selling iPhones for a while.

Once Apple Intelligence is out, he'll feel left out. Oh, poor kid. 😝

Geez... Pro Max for a teen? What world are we living in? 🤣
Not really, he's been using AI since it's been in the beta stages. Living in a world where if you can afford things, buy them!! YOLO!!

My replacement cycle for Apple gear is 5+ years.
If it works, I keep it.
I still run 2012 Mac Minis as servers, a 2009 27" iMac, but also have an M3 16"MBP because my last MBP became unreliable and was not worth repairing, My iPhone is an 11.

These things to me are tools, not fashion items.

My 17 year old keeps his phones until they have significant hardware problems. Even a year ago when the battery life on his phone was getting bad and my wife and I offered to get him a new phone he had no interest in it.

If teens are getting "smarter" then I guess that means it must be "smart" to want an iPhone. According to the survey, 88% expect their next smartphone to be an iPhone which is a 2% increase from five years ago and 13% higher than 2016.

How much are y’all paying?
I just trade my phone in yearly lol

For me, full price. I never trade; I either hand down or recycle.

This year, though, my company paid for my iPhone, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered upgrading. Other than usb c, I can tell zero difference between my 13 pro and 16 pro.

Not necessarily. My brother works and has since he is 13. He usually only has to tell my parents he wants to upgrade lol. He’s paying for the phone.

Kids these days actually have jobs.
I'm not sure what you qualify as 'kids', but there are between 12-15% fewer teenagers working today in the US than there were twenty years ago, depending on the source.

Tim we had a slight drop.
- Ok we can handle 5%
Little bit more
- 9%?
Slightly more ...
- two digit drop?
More
- 15%????

23!

- Ok, we will say "In Apple we are redefining the word slight".

Who wrote this was slightly biased.

What are you talking about?? The slight drop was referring to the percentage planning to upgrade to a new model iPhone this fall or winter. Last year's survey showed that 23% of respondents were planning to upgrade to iPhone 15. This year's survey showed that 22% of respondents were planning to upgrade to iPhone 16. That's a slight 1% drop.

Sorry but I just can’t wrap my head around this. It must be nice to buy an over $1000 phone for no other reason than you happened to be near a store when it came out! And…feels MUCH snappier…..what does that even mean with a phone?
Well, I’m not from the US and prices over here are always a couple of hundred dollars more. So, it was an impulse purchase.

The extra 2 GB of RAM in the 16 and the better processor make it noticeable faster than the 15, and apps don’t have to be purged as often.

My mistake!!!, you are right!!!

Asks the wrong question. The important question is: Are teenagers (or anyone else) buying Android (or Chinese) phones to replace iPhones? If so how many?

Lost customer base is much more important than delayed sales.

Maybe I'm old (I'm 20), but like, do teens really make financial decisions about whether or not to upgrade their phones? For me it was "ask my parents if I can have a new phone, and they might say no".
Perhaps I’m missing some sarcasm but having been a teen yourself less than a year ago I can confidently say you’re among the youngest demographic on these forums 😆

I’m not a teen but, for the record, my upgrade to a 16 PM had nothing to do with “Apple Intelligence” - I’m not the least bit interested in such a “feature”.

I love the phone, though. It’s cool to have USB-C; I plugged an ethernet adapter into my phone just for kicks and I geeked out when “Ethernet” showed up in phone settings. I’m literally more excited about that (and 10Gbps sync speed) than I am about A.I.

With Apple Intelligence rollout happening over the months, not expecting to see an increased demand immediately for iPhone 16.

Innovation is gone, many old apple employees are leaving the ship.

Apple thinks they can just create new A18 and sell it :)

I think same will be with iphone 17 and se4 competition is much cheaper and for example 120hz is standard these days.

128gb base? What a joke

Who is going to pay 800$ for 60hz come on

Such a high number of US teens own an iPhone, normally teens can’t afford an iPhone, so, as an European I ask myself, where does the money come from, parents, I wouldn’t give such a priced to teens.

Most teens I know are using their parents older iPhones and generally in the UK are the group who are less likely to be forking out £800 to £1500 for an iPhone. I guess it is very different in America.

Also US has heavy trade in offers for contracts and family bundle discounts to add on additional lines specifically around iPhone upgrades too I believe.
