To me debating between Pro and PM has always come down to: for $100 more why not?
Same for 16 plus vs Pro. You essentially spend 10% more money, for getting more 10% more (size, battery, function etc)

I think apple setup price ladder that encourage folks to go Pro.

The Pro and Pro Max models having differing feature sets aside from screen and battery is an abnormality; it's only happened with the 12 and 15 series, and it's only been the camera due to space constraints. The 11, 13, 14, and now 16 series have the same feature sets and the same pricing differential per storage tier for the Pro and Pro Max versions.
I know you’re only mentioning the Pro era, but to look at the entire history for more context—the XS and XS Max also had the same features. But before Apple changed the naming convention to “Max”, the 4 generations of the larger “Plus” iPhones had better cameras than their smaller siblings. So in total there were 5 times in Apple’s history there was feature parity between iPhone sizes, and 6 times without feature parity.

exactly. They are the same. That's the point they are making in this article. And good thing too. I hated having to give up features just because I wanted a smaller, more manageable size.
It's definitly not a "good thing" to us the aged X803 sensor for a third year in a row. This is the very same sensor which was already inside the iPhone 14 pro. This is disgusting for a 1300 € plus phone. For the normal iPhone this could be tolerated, but the X803 is simply no longer a pair with Huwei and other flagship phones, including Sony itself (they provide the X803 as well as the X903) which use at least the larger X903 ore even bigger ones. This is not pro. And I definitly consider e.g. tha an iPhone may not need pure statics like 16 Gb RAM or 200 MP count. Thats not the point, 48 MP are fine. The point ist physics and there sensor size ist key in a phone. The size of the X803 is just not accaptable on the very top. The very bad processing from Apple for jpeg adds to this fiasco. Sorry, underwhelming the sax the least.

Yes, I think that too. I am on a 3-4 year upgrade cycle anyway and some rumors say WiFi 8 is planned sometime in 2028 and I bet a new version of Bluetooth 6.0, maybe 6.1 will come out by then. Secondly I fear that in case I don't upgrade this year to the iPhone 16 Pro from the 13 Pro that I have that Apple will once again have some exclusive features for the iPhone 17 Pro Max which will really disappoint me as I can't use a Pro Max iPhone because of its size.
Indeed this is like the iPhone 6/6 plus issue and then the 6S both models received the OIS and camera improvements. I dislike large phone like PM simply because my hands get fatigued after holding it for a given period of time and it becomes a great target when travelling especially on this environment. Plus fitting a PM sized device in my pant pocket doesn’t feel comfortable and yes I have cargo pant pockets as well just not the large ones that people are familiar with seeing.
