Having ordered every iPhone since the first, this is by far the smoothest order process ever. Store up by 8:02am, and when using the iPhone app (having pre-pre-ordered days before), only took clicking two buttons and was ordered. Incredible. Though of course cue the anti-apple folk who will say, that's because of a lack of demand. But then if dates start slipping they shift to a different tactic and say, oh they are intentionally delaying shipping to "fake demand" even though the numbers always show the high demand, and giving longer times would cause many to not order at all. Or if ordering process does have problems, then people will say with all that money how can they not nail down the pre-order process. Funny to watch. Or like how people complain charging speed not as fast as android, then Apple increases to that amount and then people say, oh well Android has had forever and or suddenly switch to saying people will burn through their battery capacity (even though before it was a pro when android only had). Gotta love it lol.

Yup, same thing every year. However the ordering process this year is like you said, the smoothest I've ever had.

A lot of these so called "delays" are pure marketing tricks. I recall last year colleagues of mine who got the 15 Pro / Pro Max and their shipping date was mid October and they all got theirs on launch day in the end...

The last time I recall the shipping delays actually being correct was with the iPhone X launch - which was unseen as I recall myself. I had ordered 3 iPhones X 256GB in the very first seconds so I got it on launch day, but a couple of seconds later shipping had slipped to mid-late December and even 2018.

I'll wager that a significant number will be people who want to do Youtube reviews/unboxing videos, before returning them.

I'm not ordering this year, but checked and all configurations in the Pro and Regular models are available for delivery on the 20th, or pickup at the local Apple Store.

I got my Apple Watch, upgrading from Series 6.
I'll try to get my iPhone on launch day, from 14PM to 16PM; as I can't fathom pre-ordering and getting it in a month.
And in Oct/Nov, M4 Pro MBP!

Considering the AirPods Pro 2, from AirPods Pro 1.

I'm just going crazy this year.

Artificial scarcity to drive FOMO sales

Maybe, maybe not. I don't think they really NEED to drive sales that way. There's enough people like me who order on launch day every year for no other reason than.

1: I want it.

and

2: I can

So the date slipping may be a marketing ploy, it may just be an estimate based on manufacturing capacity combined with the smart business of managing expectations so as to not disappoint customers.

BTW, I like the cat in your avatar.

I’ve read a lot of comments from iPhone 13 owners saying they won’t upgrade this year, especially Pro Max owners. this means people are now waiting up to 4 years to upgrade their phones in some instances. The Pro Max has such a large battery that it’s much easier to get by an extra year and really makes the Pro Max worth the extra expense in the long run. (I understand this is all anecdotal and doesn’t constitute hard evidence)
Hard evidence here - I have a 13PM. Absolutely keeping it another year. My battery is still at 85% health, so I might have to change the battery in another six months. Which I'm impressed by since I hammer this thing daily.

Yup. Every year "It's a marketing gimmick!" Every year "My phone isn't shipping until X date!".

..and then they get it a week early than Apple's estimate. Every single device I've ordered from Apple has come in before their anticipated delivery date, sometimes over a week ahead.

I'm not upgrading this year. I get more than a full day with my 13 Pro (non Max), and go to bed with 20-30% or so. My battery health is 86%.

In addition, it's not difficult to get the battery replaced.

The only memory I have of actual scarcity and difficulty in ordering was the iPhone 5. I haven't had any other troubles ordering, or with ship dates not being earlier than noted.

I really don't think there is any need for chicanery of any sort from Apple's part.

They have an active iPhone user base exceeding 1 billion. This means that for any year, you are easily looking at 200-300 million users who are planning on upgrading. Add to the fact that their iPhone install base continues to grow every year, even as users hold on to their phones longer, a larger user base offsets a slowing upgrade pace just nicely.

So the irony of people claiming that they aren't planning to get a new iPhone this year is that this has probably already been factored into Apple's sales projections. Apple doesn't really need you to buy new iPhones, they just need you to keep using them, and you will continue to make Apple money (apps / subscriptions / services / accessories / Apple Pay etc).

Either way, Apple wins.

I’ve never had an issue getting an iPhone on launch day in store. Not sure I’m ready to commit to a new phone yet. Although it would be nice. I am enjoying a paid off 14 pro max.

I ordered the iPhone 16 Pro in Desert Titanium, 1TB, for pickup on 09.20.2024 with no problems on the Apple website.
Did you pay tax with Apple Card? It didn't charge me yet even though it says the tax will be billed there. It didn't even ask me me to scan via Face ID or enter my passcode. For the Watch it had charged the tax immediately.

I ordered the upgrade (16 Pro Max 512) through my carrier, AT&T. Earlier in the week they offered a pre-order where you could select the phone and options you wanted and put it in your shopping cart, then simply check out with it this morning after 8am Eastern. That would have been nice if it worked. However, the "Checkout" button stayed disabled. I had to delete the phone from my shopping cart and start over. Not a very helpful pre-order process. The are showing an anticipated ship date of Sept. 19th. w/delivery on the 20th.

I preordered, I’m upgrading from a 12PM (with a significantly degraded battery…), absolutely can’t wait! I’ve gone for the 16PM 512gb in White titanium.

I ordered direct from Apple via the app (I’m in Australia), and I had to wait about 10min to get in. I had “saved for later” my config, but that was gone so I had to do from scratch

And for what?

Button that none needs
5 yo design
Slow charging speeds
Locked-in-ecosystem design
Mediocre cameras
Pro Max price tag
I'm not sure if you were offering a legitimate critique or just looking for attention, but I'd suggest that it isn't an entirely fair assessment. I upgraded to the original Apple Watch Ultra, which added a function button, and I've found it extremely useful. It is very nice to be able to quickly do something, like drop a waypoint, without scrolling through menus. The wireless charging speed has been increased (I don't care - I charge overnight anyway), the cameras are some of the best available, the price tag is mitigated by financing and the fact that you have an incredibly powerful tool in your pocket, and any ecosystem is both a good and a bad thing. With over 700 Apple movies and a wide array of Apple devices all throughout the home and work, I think that it is a little late to change ecosystems at this point for me anyway.
