iPhone 16 Pro Demand Has Been Lower Than Expected, Analyst Says

But are iPhone 13 and iPhone 16 the same? For many, that's the real question.

For what it is worth, I am upgrading ;D (13—16), for:

— The better main camera (12>48 megapixels)
— USB-C (really need to get rid of all that Lightning stuff)
— Dynamic Island (still looks pretty cool, imho)
— Dedicated camera button (perhaps convenient, we will see)
— And yeah, better processor and the promise of AI (Audio Summaries could be really useful)

Order is in. Arrives on thursday.

Not much has changed. I want a higher PPI screen. I want a lighter Pro device. I need something more with the hardware besides cameras, which any incremental camera quality doesn't even really matter because its already good for us normal humans who don't even know how to change the settings.

The A18 Pro SOC performance is impressive tho. But all that does for most of us is speed up browsing performance I guess.

I think the rumors around iPhone 17/Air/Ultra whatever will be a big deal for many of us and it's less than a year away. Many are waiting.

I don’t see how they could possibly know that with any certainty. But it does track - it’s the same phone for going on the 6th year. Time for some fresh ideas.
You talk like this is easy stuff, (sure the aesthetics part is easy, the rest is very much not).

You are welcome to let the car manufacturers know too that they ran out of ideas, and for that fact aircraft manufacturers and pretty much a lot of other random manufacturers of stuff, been doing the same **** for the past 50 years if not longer.

It’s a solid tock release. Some of the major updates like better microphones and thermals aren’t sexy and won’t move units, but will pay dividends down the line.

FWIW I’m watching close to see why Apple included the capture button on the base models. Not doing that would increase margins for those phones and probably increase ASP’s as many would go to the pro for that feature. I think there’s a longer game here. It does nudge users to take more landscape photos and videos, but I’m not sure what Apple’s payoff would be with that 🤔
Perhaps that behavior will push users into buying additional iCloud storage thus generating more service revenue for Timmy Apple?

Huawei by a marginal %
Apple is up there in top 3
The other one top 3 is VIVO.

I think this year VIVI is top 1 by market share at around 17.something %

Thanks.
So, VIVO and Huawei rule in China. Do you happen to know if people are buying their flagships (latest and greatest) or if the are going for cheaper/older models?

Is this part 1 of the three-part play where it’s first reported that iPhone sales appear lacklustre, followed by sales of them being in short supply, and finally of Apple announcing another insanely profitable quarter?

I swear - this seems to play out every year without fail.
Pretty much, people like to speculate from the highly unreliable shipping delays from the website. They think themselves economist or smart.

Oh my all the replies. I bet most are angry.

When are the ‘yearly upgraders’ going to realise it’s not about them. Fools upgrade every year expecting big changes. The wise observers have been saying this for years.

A slump in sales means Apple have done a good job for 2-3 generations.

It’s BETTER for consumers.

Hold onto your phones & enjoy them for longer & put your spent money to better value use.

& put your saved money toward something else 😏
Wouldn’t it make more sense to sell the last-gen phone at about a 20% loss instead of hangin’ onto it for four generations (or more), when it’s hardly worth anything anymore? If you wait that long, you’ll probably end up paying full price for the newest model, which’ll cost ya more in the long run.

A lot of times, upgrading sooner and takin’ a small hit on the old phone can save ya more money than waitin’ ‘til it’s outdated and nearly worthless.

Where I’m at in Europe, I can easily upgrade early and get back about 80% of what I paid when I bought it new.

I think he has a regular 13, and would have tolerated the weight of the 15 Pro (only 13 grams more), but the 16 Pro has gone up significantly again (25 grams, roughly double the difference).
Fair point, I had the conclusion that they were talking pro models.

Still. The Delta between the 16 pro and their 13 (non pro) is only 25 Grams!!! That is about the weight as a AA Battery, or 5 teaspoons of milk!

Perhaps not everyone, but I feel most would get used to such a minor change quite quickly.

Thanks.

The next 3 brands sharing the same position ( 4,5,6 if you will) are Oppo, xiaomi and honor (never heard of them tbh).
Honestly these jostle around in the top 6 throughout the year, (kind of like top 10 nascar/f1 drivers through the race🤣)

Also Samsung is non-existent there.

For sales, I would say generally Chinese manufactures have a mixed sale portfolio, but for Huawei, Vivo, Oppo and Xiaomi have strong flagship sales anyways. I haven’t done enough research on it to be fair.

But anyways, I don’t think there are specific studies on flagships in china, at least one that directly analyses this directly. But they have been marketing heavily for them lately on the new ai features and others.

I went from the iPhone X to the 14 Pro. I'll probably hang onto my current phone for a couple more years. Congrats to all those who've upgraded.

basically the features that separate it from previous iterations are mostly AI - a feature people do not actually want outside of maybe emoji generation and which won't be available at launch.

You don’t need a new phone for that if you have a 15. AI isn’t even available at launch.

Problem here is not no AI at launch. It’s the 16 Pro is the same as the 15 pro with an extra “button”. This extra “button” screams touchbar vibes. It will eventually go away just like 3D Touch.

Same phone with just a new button? Let me fix that up for ya a bit:

1. Bigger Screen: The 16 Pro Max’s got a 6.9-inch display, a bit larger than the 6.7-inch on the 15 Pro Max, and with slimmer bezels.
2. A18 Pro Chip: It’s packing a 15% faster processor than the A17 in the 15 Pro Max.
3. Beefed-Up Neural Engine: That new 16-core engine can crunch 35 trillion tasks a second, makin’ it quicker on all that AI stuff.
4. Wi-Fi 7: Faster internet speeds, better than the Wi-Fi 6E on the old model.
5. Snapdragon X75 5G Modem: Even better connectivity and power efficiency.
6. Capture Button: A shiny new button just for grabbin’ quick photos.
7. Graphene Heatsink: Keeps it cooler with improved heat management for smoother performance.

So yeah, it ain’t just one button! It’s got a bit more goin’ on under the hood although nothing ground breaking I might admit

I am upgrading to the iPhone 16 Pro Max 512GB in Desert Titanium, however I am only interested in the larger screen / larger battery / wifi 7 support - the rest is of no use to me and I do not use and have no purpose to use Siri / AI and never will - I only use SMS / email / Notes / some random photos / don’t use paid apps / don’t use games / don’t use emoji’s / don’t use FaceTime / etc and if I want to take decent photos I use my trust Canon 5D Mark IV - full frame sensor - DSLR - and don’t believe Apple’s camera “marketing” - its all lies and misinformation and “megapixels” mean nothing - its all about the sensor size - proof below:
Meh, it's profitable to hate on Apple, gets the views!

That said, he makes fair points, but you would be amazed how many photos go to print and even make cover from devices such as an iPhone, Google Pixel, or Samsung phones.

Biggest thing people forget is how far these devices have come in such a short time, and, how accessible they are in a pinch.

As a Canon owner too (R5, R6 MKII, & R), with 4 prime & 3 Zoom lenses, the Phone is FAR more accessible in a short moment. With my phones set to default photos in RAW due to the nature of media I cover, The photos are darn good considering how little the sensor is.

Video, even better, and again FAR more accessible than my Canon cameras, or 4K Sony video camera.

This nonsense is about a week early. Please adjust your publication schedule,.

This joker you quote as a god of the supply chain has a crummy track record. His business is to make money for his clients. His job is to manipulate the market.

He is not god, nor is he prescient.

I agree, to be fair there is less from 15>16 than there was from 14>15.

But again, people complain they cannot have the latest since Apple has not provided them enough changes/value for them to spend the 1000+ cost. This is the wrong to go about this as many have stated earlier.

Unless you got a lot of disposable income, then the complaints usually go away.

This is the first year since the Pro Max series began that I haven’t pre-ordered the Pro Max version (or any other iPhone 16) as I do every year when pre-orders are taken. I don’t think I’ve ever been less excited for an iPhone launch since the first iPhone. And I’ve owned every an iPhone version since iPhones became a thing. I reluctantly pre-ordered the 15 Pro Max last September to replace my 14 Pro Max. I found little compelling in that upgrade. A new camera button isn’t gonna do it for me this year. And AI? Forgetaboutit as far as my needs are.

Lots of people pointed out that if the main selling point was Apple Intelligence, and 99% of those features are available on last year’s iPhone, why would you upgrade? I don’t know how Apple didn’t see this coming.
Right—on last year’s Pro phones, which will no longer for sale once current stock is exhausted. But the market for buying a 16 Pro/Max is a lot larger than current 15 PM owners and the article claims it is also not upgrading in the expected numbers.
