iPhone 16 Pro Max Beaten by Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra in App Loading Speed Test

There is something seriously wrong with this test as neither phone starts at 100%. It seems like they were running multiple tests, but only show us one result!

It’s a pretty realistic test though, mirroring every-day use. Of course you won't really notice the difference without the comparison…but in some cases, like the video export, you do!
And this just shows an overall trend. If Apple doesnt catch up NOW, in a couple of years we might lack behind a lot more owning an iPhone.
It's not realistic as no-one opens 20 apps in a row. This test is mainly testing Internet and Memory speed. There is also something seriously wrong with this test as neither phone starts at 100%. It seems like they ran multiple tests before, but only show us one result!

Every year iphones get faster and faster... yet iOS still slows down after 2 major OS updates where absolutely nothing changes apart from the OS skin & a few useless/minor feature changes (which only run when you use them). No other brands do this despite being all round cheaper/worse quality or just weaker. Geee I wonder why...
Never experienced this. Been on iPhone since the 3g.

I haven’t seen iOS slow down after 2 years since the iPhone 6🤷🏻‍♂️

How is this important? Who uses android?
I personally daily drive a iPhone 16 Plus. However I daily test a bunch of devices for our MS InTune implementation as we have a bunch of Android devices for retail purposes. I regularly test Samsung tablets running Android as well. You could NOT pay me to personally own a Samsung device. The THICK layer of Samsung garbage on Android is just horrible

Question is: So what?

Exactly. No one really cares, other than benchmark junkies.

But no one cares... It's an utterly pointless argument.

....

It's a weird rivalry thing that has been perpetuated buy social media and influencers. DO you care what phone I have? Or TV or Oven or Washing machine. Apple vs windows is equally as stupid and pointless. Want something you can tinker and expand easily buy a PC... want a computer to work flawlessly 99% of the time by a Mac. Even Adobe apps are a mess on PCs.

Well said.

You are wrong.

Source: Wife's phone LOL - the # of apps she has loaded in memory is astounding.

I have Apple for the integration and all my content and Apps have been bought there. Even if I did swap I'd have to buy them again. You think I could go to any games company and say... look I already bought that and no it's go nothing to do with a walled garden - they could easily assign a mobile licence to my email.

I buy apple devices as they have resale. Samsung and other are just awful after 2/3 years. Let alone the real world updates. Samsung say they support them, but really they will only support their flagship devices.

I love a real-world test - oh wait - nobody really cares about this when watching tick-tock or sending a message. In fact most of todays phone are so overpowered that its a waste of resources - but thats progress i guess

Meanwhile McDonalds here in the UK currently has an app which completely freezes as soon as you try and browse the Burgers menu, not like that is the whole point of the business or anything like that...

The reactions of some are quite funny. Yesterday someone mentioned the “crappy” processor Samsung uses when I said that Apple is quite behind Samsung offerings. Than they rant about Apple’s ecosystem and processor power which is “unbeatable”. In my opinion Apple is getting behind on all things that matter. Even considering the pricing difference.

I’m not about bashing Apple, but it certainly needs to focus less on profits and make sure their products offer the value for money one should expect from a premium brand.

Apple purely relies on customers who don’t compare or don’t value technology evolutions.

Apple won’t sink in one day, but the writings are on the wall they have to come up with better offerings.

8GB isn’t enough even when you have to consider that Android is fully multitasking and iOS is not.

People who love Apple products can defend Apple as long as they want, but it has been a long time going that their offerings need to get a lot better do they want to attract switchers or growing their base.

Apple AI is a joke compared to Android offerings. I don’t see Apple closing the gap soon or ever.

The best things that set Apple apart (ecosystem) have been copied for years on other platforms and many go beyond what’s possible with apples.

I used to love these test 10 years ago now all the flagships are just as fast. Same for the cameras. Not much separating them anymore.

The S25 has similar speed in my opinion, but where the iPhone is beat is in functionality and multitasking because I have both the S25 and iPhone 15 pro max I have tried the 16 pro max it’s not much faster than the 15. With the S25, I have desktop mode running on a computer monitor and also have a video mirroring from the S25 on the tv meanwhile while talking on the phone and playing a game on the monitor in desktop mode, it’s a true all-in-one device. The iPhone still lacks a lot of functionality and multitasking. The iPhone heats up a lot, causing it to throttle itself and dim the screen at random. The iPhone is still limited. No matter how much Apple upgrades hardware, it’s still an indisputable fact that the software is still behind. Most people don’t use Android because they claim it’s complicated, but it really is not in my opinion. The iPhone is simplified for novice users. Most people don’t even know most of the functionality that iOS has, which is not much compared to Android, but it still has it. It’s just simple. Most iOS users are going to get an iPad to compensate for the lack of functionality and multitasking on the iPhone.

Who cares! We buy Apple to be ripped off at every turn, I'm sure Tim Cook says we should be proud to own such expensive low performance devices. And innovation? What's that?
Low performing, keep drinking the kool aid. I have no problem with the speed of my iPhone p16

So, unless I'm missing something, Samsung S25 beat iPhone
- on an overclocked phone
- with a substantially improved cooling system
- utilizing an extra 4GB of RAM.

I mean...if they require that to beat an iPhone, not sure that's 'impressive.' Remove the overclocking and the 4GB and let's see how it does. :p

This doesn't make any sense. Why would you argue for removing a part of the RAM that the phone has? If the iPhone had 2 GB of RAM compared to Ultra's 12, and the iPhone were only five times slower, we wouldn't have a cause for celebration.

The Samsung phone as a faster CPU and more RAM. Ofcourse it's faster. But now do a real world test using only first party apps. I'll wait.

Irrelevant, as any objective real-world test should incorporate third-party apps, since most people will be using a number of third-party apps. If anything, not using third-party apps would be suspiciously biased.

I own a 16 Pro Max, but fair play to Samsung for making the improvements they have. I am not sure why so many here see it as such an issue and seem to be personally offended by it.

This innovation just pushes Apple to improve which is good for everybody...

It's a sad state of affairs. This test happens every time a new phone launches, and the Pro Max wins it most of the time, followed by praise towards Apple. Now that the Ultra won, despite Apple supposedly being untouchable when it comes to mobile silicon, people can't seem to handle it.

To be fair, the test indeed is pretty much irrelevant as phones are so powerful now it makes no difference that one can gain several seconds over the other in a three-minute test, but just be consistent about it, instead of praising Apple one year and then next year dismissing the test as meaningless when the outcome changes.

And the funny thing is, it's the Ultra that is actually at a disadvantage here, being a new phone for which Samsung did not have the time to optimise software following real-world usage tests.
