What's with them being dust magnets this go round?

Ailun for my 13 mini is fine and attracts some but minor dust

Ailun (for 16Plus) and Amfilm (for 16Pro) both attracted a lot of dust after a day

Did they not round the edges enough, or is there something preventing them doing what they did with previous screen protectors?

Not the end of the world but a curious situation.

The glass on the 13 line was flat, meaning the screen protector could also be flat with no issues. They can also use very thin adhesive.

The 15s and 16s have glass that curves very slightly at the edges. This means the screen protector has to do the same, or use more adhesive there to fill the space. If left unfilled, crud collects under it (flolab). If filled, lint and dust sticks to the edges.

The solution is to bend the glass, but that process is prohibitively expensive. Whitestone used to do this for their Samsung screen protectors.

I wasn't annoyed by my ESR until I read this thread and now I can't unsee the rainbow. So there's no consensus this year on which one is best? Hoping to not have to pay the crazy Apple price for the Belkin.

The issue with Nudient and all other the ones likely coming out of the same factory (Ultraglass, Torras, WSKEN) is that the black border that’s used to give it a nicer edge to edge appearance also cuts into the actual pixels.

The non black borders don’t look as clean, but they extend past the pixels so no pixels are being blocked.

Yes, I know. But it’s really 2-3 pixels basically. So I rather live with that than awful edges and rainbow-effects some screen protectors make when just covering display.

So it’s really the best I have teste and basically full screen. And nice to not get so much dust in the edges.

I thought this was just an ESR thing based on reviews, but I definitely noticed this myself.

So just came back from Apple Store. Bought 2 iPhone 16 Pros. 256GB & 512GB.
On 256GB one the protector fits perfectly. First attempt.
On 512GB one, 6 failed attempts, ESR and Tersely. Apple Store tried 2 Belkins, same issue. The whole border is not sitting right.
The lady at the store said to get a new iPhone and take the refund of this one.
They’ve actually been facing this issue with quite a few other customers too so the worst part is that I don’t even know if the new one will have the same issue or not.
Honestly kinda pissed. What’s up the QC at Apple? No Apple intelligence, now screen warp issue.
Ok so an update on this.
Something was seriously wrong with that unit.
Battery life went down from 100 to 40% with 2.5 hrs of screen time.
I got it replaced at the Apple Store.
New unit is perfect. First tempered went on perfectly- ESR from Amazon.
I actually took the refund from Amazon for the prior 6 tempered wasted thinking that the tempered was faulty. Who would’ve thought that the phone itself was warped.
Now my thought process is that because the battery life was also really bad with the first one, it might just be a swollen battery or something causing the screen to bulge slightly in turn causing the screen protector to not to sit properly.

Very weird situation this year. Not the usual apple. If it was only me, then it made sense, one faulty device out of millions but a lot of people facing this issue so definitely there are actual hardware differences between the units. Pretty sure apple wont even address this, bad for shareholders.

Not sure if it helps but my first unit battery manufacture month was July 2024 and new one is August 2024. So far so good with the new one.
Still getting 5-6 hrs of screen time on a full charge but it’s getting better day by day.

It seems Armorite and Belkin coverages are spot on. Belkin may be just a bit smoother on the edges and thinner but tbh i doubt it’s worth 3x the cost.
(Belkin on top ESR bottom)

According to your pics Belkin is the one with less gap so far , looks like ESR has a bigger gap than Torras, decided to stay with Torras... since there is no way out of the gap this year and too much of a hassle to go to an Apple store to get a Belkin, and I've never been lucky with Belkin products before.

Ultraglass unbreak seems to have similar coverage to ESR (and subjectively worse oleophobic coating). That means it does indeed cut into the contents of display just enough so you can tell something is off but not by much. You can also see a bit of light bleeding from under black borders and speaker cutout is pretty much useless (all of above is noticeable off axis). Edges seem similar to ESR if maybe a little smoother.

(Second photo is ultraglass with esr on top, with their right edges aligned showing total difference in width)

Seems the gap of Ultraglass is the same as Torras, interesting that looks very similar to Torras, we don't have no way out of those big gaps this year... crazy.

Not really free when you have to pay $5 a pop for postage. Etc.
I asked Flolabs recently the same question; via email support—emphasis mine

  1. For warrabty[sic] shipping cost would be $8.95, product cost is on us.

$50 base for 1x protector + $8.95 per replacement: seems to be little too steep, for me. I'd rather they bundle in two screen protectors, so if one cracks, I don't need to wait for delivery of the replacement.

I've heard some concerns that Flolab's coating introduces a slight bit of haziness. Unfortunately, I think I'd need to see it in-person to know how much that would matter. Few people mention it, though, so I'm hopeful.

I ordered the Spigen EZ for for my 16 Pro as had it on my 14 Pro and it was great.

Installed it and on the left hand side it didn’t adhere correctly, couldn’t remove the bubble so took it off and tried the second one - exactly the same issue. Spoke to Spigen and they refunded me plus sent me another pack, installed them and the exact same thing happened. It’s not something I’m doing as it’s the exact same place each time, very annoying.

Has this happened to anybody else?

Probably misaligned display like some others had , they needed to replace iPhone. Only way to prove that was they got Apple to install it at the store and it kept failing so they exchanged the iPhone and all was good.

Mine went on to my 16PM faultlessly, 1st time around...

What I can say is that I've learned that if the phone and/or screen protector is cold, it'll sometimes have issues...

Ah really? Would make sense as to why 4 of them have all failed in the exact same place, will try and get into and Apple Store at some point to speak to them. How would I prove it was misaligned though?

I’ve tried 4, it’s 100% not user error. It’s happening in the exact same place each time.

You may need to buy a Belkin protector in the Apple Store and have them install it. If it doesn’t install properly after multiple tries they will likely replace the phone.

Easy. Buy the screen protector from them and get them to install it, after a few failed attempts they’ll get the message.

And lastly for now, spigen. Their glass seems to be exactly like esr with no discernible difference. I have to say i don’t like their installation tool, i wasted one glass because of the way you remove the underside foil and can get debris on it.

From my testing so far i can say this, if you don’t mind loosing like couple pixels width on each side and like smooth edges, go for ultraglass/torras (haven’t tested torras but supposedly they are the same product ymmv). If you want borderless glass to see the whole display (for me rainbowing is not an issue unless i really look for it.) either spigen, belkin or esr will do. Personally id lean towards esr i think, since it’s cheap and you don’t gain anything really with other two. To my eye they all seem very close in width, with ultraglass being just a smidge wider.

Once it arrives I’ll compare flolab to ultraglass although we already know it has the same problems. I’m having high hopes for uniq and upcoming products. Sorry for being too ecstatic about this topic it really annoys me that there is no proper product

Thanks for your overview. I think perhaps it’s worth noting that the Torras is over twice as thick as the Belkin and ESR. This may or may not be an issue depending upon the case one is using and how much screen lip they prefer.

Just had a not pleasant experience at the Apple store. Went in to have them install a Belkin UG screen protector. He put it on and said there's a small bubble in the corner that will go away on it's on in the next 24 hours. I took a look and it's obviously a piece of dust under the protector so it's not going away. He refused to do another as did his manager who I requested. They just said, we are the experts and we see this everyday and it will probably be gone in a couple hours. So they said come back Sunday if it's not gone and they'll re-assess the situation. Out $43 and have a screen protector with a 1/4" bubble.

Curious if anybody has tried either of these:

the wsken ones i loved on the 14PM. But concerned these black borders will get in the way for the 16 PM. I also would like feedback. Thanks for bringing it up.

Had my Torras SP on since launch and no issues. Usual dust around the edge but had the same with my 15 pro.

I tried the WSKEN with the green roller. When installed perfectly, it blocked a sliver of the "L"s in the camera app..
