I still don’t believe that they’ll show exclusive features for a device that hasn’t even been announced yet. The iOS 18 Generative Features that’ll get announced at WWDC will be available to all devices that can run iOS 18. Any exclusive features will be announced in September, when the devices that can run those features will be announced. Unless, you know, Apple decides to randomly announce the iPhone 16 lineup at WWDC for some reason.

I'm pretty sure that at WWDC they'll announce iOS 18 features that are "coming later this year" and then limited to iPhone 16 (Pro). Probably the coolest features.

I'm not sure if that would work - too many people have written Siri off so wouldn't really care about an "improved" version and also ChatGPT, Gemini etc are available as apps today.
Depends how they use the data on your phone and the ecosystem. There is a lot of personal data GPT cannot process. I hope Apple’s version will be more like a personal assistant.

For example, ask Siri to write docs in your tone. Ask siri to find a set of photos by description. Ask siri how you knew someone and what interaction you had. Ask siri to control your smart home by actual natural language. There’s a lot GPT cannot do

An actually smart Siri would basically double the utility I get out of my Apple stuff. Right now my use of Siri is limited to a few commands (which it still manages to bungle). Having as many hooks as it does into my iPhone, Macs, Apple TV, HomePods... it could be incredibly useful if it was actually capable.

I’ll be mightily pissed off if the rumoured improvements to Siri are limited to new devices.
And you are not the only one. I have an M2 iPad Pro with a 16 core neutral engine. If the iPhone gets boosted Neural Engine, and only that will support new Siri There will be a protest, even worse than the one that happened when stage manager came out and was initially limited to M series devices.

Sounds like they found a excuse to withhold features from perfectly capable iPhone 14's and 15's (Pro/Max)

Don’t forget that Apple called the A17 Pro neural engine 2x as fast, irrespective of core count.

I suspect iPhone 15 Pro will get the Ai features shown off at WWDC, and that iPhone 16 Pro will get another level of Ai features to differentiate it. Apple has been playing up the hype of their AI offerings this year and they’ll want to flex at WWDC, and may offer some APIs they want to see leveraged in apps

I so hope you are right. Sounds logical, anyway.

Apple can’t possibly get enough of an increase in geek bench scores between 15 Pro and 16 Pro.

So limiting all the significant AI stuff to iPhones 16 and beyond is how they’ll get you to upgrade.

You can get pissed now, I guarantee you that you won’t get any of the meaningful AI upgrades without the latest iPhones. You most likely won’t get any at all.

Apple is already taking a hit on revenue as a consequence of all the new AppStore regulations for EU iPhones.

Ain’t no way they’re handing out fully functional Siri as a free update for everyone on iPhones 15 and older. No way.

You could metaphorically count on one hand that amount of people who upgrade an iPhone based on a Geekbench score. I've been using iPhones since 2008, and I don't think I've ever read a Geekbench score. No clue where they stand, and don't care in the slightest.

That didn't do it, and neither will a newer chatty Siri. Camera's, new designs, expiring contracts and aging batteries get people to upgrade.

I’m hoping there’s enough fast memory on board too, because even with that funky optimization research paper, you’ll really need it.

Is this the year for iPhone Ultra?

…with an Ultra price to match?

With Mac sales flagging and now the scuba mask flop, I’m sure there is an internal push for iPhone to somehow save the revenue day, as usual

I'm very curious to see how Apple implements it. But I'm afraid that I won't be able to use all these new features on my Macs (M1 Max and M3 Pro) or my iPad (M2).

Large language models have turned out to be a huge snooze for me. They produce the blandest possible content, with hallucinations and factual errors in almost every output. I’m sure the tech will get better, but for now I find myself rolling my eyes at anything AI-produced. It’s the 2024 equivalent of junk mail.

And to think…I know people using it to crank out blogposts

Just mass producing total garbage

All I want is the Best Take feature from Google to be included in the next iOS version.

BTW Google is also artificially limiting the regular Pixel 8 even though it has the same SoC as the 8 Pro, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple does the same with the regular iPhone 16 and all prior models to increase sales of the 16 Pro.
