Seriously? Why would anyone swap the excellent 15P for the new low end 16e? Just to save a few grams?

What I want to see is the rumored uber-thin iPhone Air. Its specs should be interesting. My guess is $699-$749; priced somewhere between the iPhone 16 standard model and this low end 16e. Or maybe even $799 like the base iP16.
I dont care about the cameras any more, i am tired of looking at smartphone made pics.
I came from a 12mini, so an iphone with just one lens is enough for me.
The 15pro is too heavy and bulky for me. Lessons learned.

Incredible value but I’m not upgrading my 12 Mini until a phone comes out that is the same weight or less. Hoping the upcoming Air might be the ticket.
I’m pretty sure that given its size, the Air’s weight will at least be that of the regular iPhone.

So a $170 price increase from the gen 3 SE? Count me out. While this kind of pricing policy has long been Apple's business model, there's no way I justify spending $599 for a phone that's a subset of the iPhone 15, which is selling for $699. And I don't want that either. Guess I'll just stick with the 2020 SE I have until the new one goes on sale.

“Penny pinching”? It’s a budget model.
“Budget” at $600?

May I ask you how many cameras do you count on this cheaper, $500 ($400 currently) phone here, good sir? I count more than one.

How about this one? Let’s step down to $300. I see three.

The camera hardware isn’t like for like in terms of sensor size, but the point I’m making is look at what REAL budget phones are doing and then look at what Apple is doing at a $100+ higher price.

Just because you've never had magsafe or OLED (the 12 had that), doesn't mean you're fair game to get swindled with a bad overpriced product.

We need to get over the trauma bond of the promise of a good Siri. Siri will never be good. It's bad, toxic product. Today Siri refused to give me directions because I had to re-allow it, for some reason, to work as instructed.

Apple has turned to shirt.
If you ever owned a iPhone SE then you would know it’s the Dollar Tree 🌳 of the iPhone lineup. It’s bare minimum with maybe 1 or 2 of the Flagship features. If you want most up to date features then get iPhone 16 or 17 when it comes out this upcoming September.

You’re getting flagship Apple Intelligence, flagship A18 3nm Chip and Flagship camera. That’s 3 flagship features and Apple could’ve really did without the AI and A18 but they put them in anyway as a nice gesture.

the ‌iPhone 16e‌ camera has a standard 1x field of view, and a 2x zoom option. It has no Telephoto lens, so there are no other zoom options, nor is there an Ultra Wide camera for wide-angle shots and macro images.

So presumably that means no “0.5x” mode? This will instantly rule it out of contention with my nieces. Apparently it’s the only “must have” feature in an iPhone for them and the single factor that determines if any given hand-me-down is worthless junk or highly coveted and venerated device.

$599 is not a budget price.
To Apple 🍎 it is and is now there lowest priced iPhone. $600 is very affordable especially if you finance it. This phone will last you for 4-5 years without you having to buy another phone with useless features unless your a professional photographer in Hollywood ⭐️

Financed this iPhone 16e will be just $12/month if you pay for Half up front or just $24/month with Zero down.

Most surprising and disappointing omission for me is the lack of UWB.

On a related note, does this have the rumored Apple in-house WiFi & Bluetooth chip? Or is that still going to debut in the iPhone 17? Maybe Apple will be incorporating the U1 functionality into that chip?

So the 16 can support Photographic Styles but the 16E can't? 🤔 The other differences make sense, but that one smells like artificial software product differentiation to me.
Just like they did with Photonic Engine that works on iPhone 14 but doesn't on iPhone 13 Pro (both use the same processor).

Also visual intelligence? It wasn't available on iPhone 15 Pro because it's lacking camera control but suddenly you can use it on 16e with action button. Now let's see if they'll enable it on 15 Pro with iOS 18.4 or not

Wow, Tim sure wasn't kidding when he said how strong the product pipeline was. Now the ALL NEW iPhone 16e, the most advanced e-series phone Apple has ever released, will have an ALL NEW iOS 18 when it launches. This changes everything about the iPhone e-series, all over again!

Exactly, especially in other countries than USA where you have to pay more than $700 for it. That is not a budget phone. That's high-midrange territory but with old specs and lacking features (that were available in other phones for years).

The "Sensor-shift optical image stabilization" is also missing compared to the iPhone 16 camera. The 16e uses "Optical image stabilization" which I guess is lense based and was used up until iPhone 12.
