Wow, the more I read about this turkey the better it gets. /S
By now I think there’s a whole room full of ‘other shoes’ that have dropped.

This iPhone is utterly pointless and totally confusing as to why it even exists. If it replaces the el cheapo SE 3 which is 429$ then why the heck is it priced at 599$? I mean, Apple have totally blown their entry level iPhone pricing point right now. This feels like John Sculley's Apple all over again with this insane product overlap chaos, all while failing to serve the actual market intended. Why, Tim Apple? Why?

It does not have iPhone 16 camera. Come on, MacRumors, you guys are pumping out articles before even reading the spec sheet.

The 16e sensor isn't as good as iPhone 16 and likely smaller. For instance, it doesn't have 100% Focus Pixels. This is something iPhone 11 and newer have. This means low light isn't as good as the 16. Kinda disappointing Apple is so penny pinching.

Please don’t refer to objects like they’re people… an iPhone is not a living being. ***the iPhone

"You only have to be first, not the most accurate." 🤦‍♂️

So presumably that means no “0.5x” mode? This will instantly rule it out of contention with my nieces. Apparently it’s the only “must have” feature in an iPhone for them and the single factor that determines if any given hand-me-down is worthless junk or highly coveted and venerated device.
I reckon you are correct. The camera lena is physically is not built for an ultrawide FOV.

I use the ultrawide fairly often. I’m curious what your nieces use it for?

I dont care about the cameras any more, i am tired of looking at smartphone made pics.
I came from a 12mini, so an iphone with just one lens is enough for me.
The 15pro is too heavy and bulky for me. Lessons learned.
Going back to 60hz from 120hz will be painful for your eyes…

If you ever owned a iPhone SE then you would know it’s the Dollar Tree 🌳 of the iPhone lineup. It’s bare minimum with maybe 1 or 2 of the Flagship features. If you want most up to date features then get iPhone 16 or 17 when it comes out this upcoming September.

You’re getting flagship Apple Intelligence, flagship A18 3nm Chip and Flagship camera. That’s 3 flagship features and Apple could’ve really did without the AI and A18 but they put them in anyway as a nice gesture.
They definitely could have gone without the AI. The latest processor, cut down or not, was part of the SE already. It's not like they're doing someone a favor. Trying to sell the phone without a version of the latest processor would have been less than optimal since they're pushing an extra 1.4 inches diagonal display size in there, which isn't nice.

Good battery life, good design, good pricing. If it weights less than a 15 or 16 i consider to swap my 15pro

Edit:
16pro: 149,6 x 71,5 x 8,25 weight 199g
16e: 146,7 x 71,5 x 7,8 weight 167g
Ha that’s how I ended up in an SE last time from a 12 pro max.

Basically my phone was mint but had a weird internal issue I can’t remember what but it passed the trade in check some how.. so they gave me

Option 1 - pay £550 for a replacement refurb pro or

Option 2 - take the £400 trade in on mine and spend £99 towards the SE at the time..

No brainer really!

I’m currently in a 15 pro and only want the new SE

It is not a real Flagship camera

Just because you've never had magsafe or OLED (the 12 had that), doesn't mean you're fair game to get swindled with a bad overpriced product.

We need to get over the trauma bond of the promise of a good Siri. Siri will never be good. It's bad, toxic product. Today Siri refused to give me directions because I had to re-allow it, for some reason, to work as instructed.

Apple has turned to shirt.
We're not in The Good Place.

To Apple 🍎 it is and is now there lowest priced iPhone. $600 is very affordable especially if you finance it. This phone will last you for 4-5 years without you having to buy another phone with useless features unless your a professional photographer in Hollywood ⭐️

Financed this iPhone 16e will be just $12/month if you pay for Half up front or just $24/month with Zero down.
People shouldn't have to go into debt to buy any phone, let alone a budget model. Due to interest, financing it makes it even more expensive that it already is. I'm sure Tim Cook doesn't care though, and would be happy with that idea because he has the soul of a bankster.

My iPad Pro is 120hz, my iPhone 14 is 60. It literally makes zero difference. I use both side by side without issue, and my eyes are VERY sensitive to the point the PWM settings on the new Active Island screens make me instantly nauseous.

I mentioned this in another thread but the 16E doesn't have a true optical zoom and it is super misleading. Marketing materials all say it is 2x zoom with "optical quality". Yes, it presents you with a 2x choice in the camera app but it is not true optical zoom!

Just really depressing to see Apple stooping to this level

Are you sure about this? Because in the comparison page it just says optical zoom options, same wording as on the regular 16.

If it’s the same as on the 16, it’s not a digital crop in the traditional sense where the camera just tries its best to enhance with no extra data. What’s happening here is that when it zooms in it will simply use half of the 48MP in the sensor in each dimension and give you a true 12MP zoomed in photo. When it’s not zoomed in it will instead combine 4 pixels into 1 to create a regular 12MP photo. This is the same process to create 2x optical zoom on the Pro phones as well.

Apple marketing around this on the product page and comparison tool is SUPER deceptive.
It's bordering on fraudulent to be honest

PetaPixel covered it

The camera has an “integrated 2x telephoto,” which is a fancy way of saying that Apple digitally converts the 48MP wide camera (26mm f/1.6 equivalent) into a 12MP telephoto (52mm f/1.6 equivalent).

Its one image sensor performs double duty using Apple’s very effective virtual zoom technology.
