The 6th best-selling smartphone model during launch of the iPhone 14 is still pretty good I’d say.
I'm comparing it to other iPhones. It was dead last amongst iPhones overall that year, even though some of the other models were already quite old and yet still more expensive.

Can you imagine if it didn't? And came with 6GB.

The 16e already received such a beating today in terms of public response.
Yeah, it would be like if it didn't come with something like Magsafe ... oh wait!

Apple never publicly advertises the amount of RAM included in iPhones, but MacRumors has confirmed that the iPhone 16e is equipped with 8GB of RAM.

Given the iPhone 16e supports Apple Intelligence, it was widely expected that the device would have 8GB of RAM, as that is the minimum amount of memory required for Apple Intelligence. All other iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models also have 8GB of RAM, while the iPhone SE that was replaced by the iPhone 16e is equipped with 4GB of RAM.

We confirmed the iPhone 16e's amount of RAM in Apple's developer tool Xcode, with assistance from MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris.

iPhone 16e pre-ordering begins this Friday at 5 a.m. Pacific Time in nearly 60 countries, and the device will launch on Friday, February 28.

Too big, too expensive, serves no-one. This product is absolutely not an SE series device. Does Timmy need the money that bad? Or has hanging with Trump inspired him to tell the peasants to buzz right off? This is Modern Apple reduced to its essence, and soon the knee-jerk applause from the fan bois will quiet.

It would be great for Apple to also consider there are people who don’t care about Apple Intelligence. I pretty much only ask siri what the weather is. I have never really added that to my lifestyle. I want a small phone. I don’t want a device to dominate my life anymore. I would probably buy an ipad touch if they still made them and get a flip phone. It’s clear Apple wants to dominate the cellphone market, but it would be nice to see them keep a true mini/SE device that doesn’t have the bells and whistles of the bigger models. That is the fail of the 16E.

? You can turn off AI, but the fact that these come with more memory because of AI is a nice bonus IMO.

The problem with the mini and SE is people didn't buy many of them relative to the other iPhones. Apple is trying to remedy that by selling an iPhone size more people actually desire.

This has to be the worst iphone they have ever offered. No magsafe, no color options, single camera? Oh but it has the AI grift built in.

Such a shame how far the value proposition has fallen for the SE line. The power and price of the original SE made it one of the best phones ever produced. No camera bump, square edges, small form factor. The perfect phone but too weak nowadays to run some apps.

Obviously I am biased as someone who still uses an iphone mini, but there is zero appeal to this new 16E when you could just get a regular 16 for $100 more when it inevitably drops to $700 when the iphone 17 releases.
It supports wireless charging

Lots of people care about Apple Intelligence; MacRumors even reported very recently that people have begun accelerating their upgrade cycles because of it. So how can you say with sincereity that little evidence exists of the public caring about Apple Intelligence?
I don’t believe it. Certainly not long term. It was the new hot thing but once people start using it they’ll find out it’s not that great (certainly not as great as Apple’s marketing makes it out to be).

Seriously feel a bit burned having an iPhone 15 future proof wise. I have an iPad Air M1 and don’t really care about Apple Intelligence but it’s lacking a lot of features now.

Nah. They scrapped the iPhone SE series because sales were poor. People would rather spend more money on a phone with a bigger screen and better battery life, even if it's used, as opposed to an iPhone SE 3 with small screen and terrible battery life.
At least the previous SE was designed for someone. Who is this designed for? Why would someone buy this over an iPhone 16? This is like the iPad lineup where products are designed to fill price points not to cater to a specific demographic. But this one is more of a head scratcher because who does this price point appeal to? The entry level 16e with 2 years of Apple care is $788 plus tax. That’s not for someone who is budget conscious. At that point you might as well get the 16.

Because it costs $200 less yet has the same size screen as the iPhone 16 and even better battery life. Those were the two biggest problems with the iPhone SE 3. It had terrible battery life in comparison, and it was too small for the majority of the population. Hence, the SE 3 was Apple's worst selling iPhone, even though it cost way less than all of the other iPhones.
