So 128GB storage and 8GB RAM have nothing to do with the price increase? That’s just the pretext. The actual reasons are the Face ID hardware and the OLED screen, and the billions in R&D for the new modem chip.

This is simply NOT true. iOS 18 is the most stable OS I've seen for my iPhone and my iPads.iOS 18 is very unstable even on the 16 Pros with 8GB
Yes but your basing that off the previous 429 price point but come September when the 15’s are removed then suddenly Apple have managed to squeeze more money out of customers going forward because that’s suddenly the cheapestAt least the previous SE was designed for someone. Who is this designed for? Why would someone buy this over an iPhone 16? This is like the iPad lineup where products are designed to fill price points not to cater to a specific demographic. But this one is more of a head scratcher because who does this price point appeal to? The entry level 16e with 2 years of Apple care is $788 plus tax. That’s not for someone who is budget conscious. At that point you might as well get the 16
OK fair point. I still say this is similar to the iPad lineup where you have products that overlap a lot and it feels like they’re designed to fill price points. Assuming most people are paying for their phone over time the 16 is roughly $8 more per month than the 16e. If someone can afford $25/mo for the 16e I highly doubt they couldn’t afford $33/mo for the 16. I understand smaller phones don’t sell well but I think it’s a mistake for Apple to not have a sub $500 phone in their lineup.Because it costs $200 less yet has the same size screen as the iPhone 16 and even better battery life. Those were the two biggest problems with the iPhone SE 3. It had terrible battery life in comparison, and it was too small for the majority of the population. Hence, the SE 3 was Apple's worst selling iPhone, even though it cost way less than all of the other iPhones.
Yep! There's a performance advantage to it not being able to handle AI.It runs well on your iPhone 11 because your actually missing certain iOS 18 features
Yes I get that. Everything is about moving price points higher. That’s how you make tens of billions in profit every quarter.Yes but your basing that off the previous 429 price point but come September when the 15’s are removed then suddenly Apple have managed to squeeze more money out of customers going forward because that’s suddenly the cheapest
everybody knows that the iPhone 13 Pro Max is legit even todayHe cant and will not
I'm hedging my bets that the Pro iPhones will come with 12GB RAM this year and is why the 16 Pros held not weight for me when they were released.Just image the comments if it came with 12GB of RAM.
Yeahhhh... I don't know if I'm gonna be replacing my Apple devices with their new versions once they reach obsolescence unless something big changes. I can get pretty similar in most aspects outside of Apple (for less $ )thanks to Apple allowing its competitors( and in some case helping) to erase the gap that made Apple different.Apple is becoming less and less exciting. This was the "New Product" that they had to have an event for? Oh Tim..
Too early to tell. Let's see in a couple of years. I agree with the respect to the short termCertainly not long term
Why do ppl think apple doesn’t disclose RAM size? To not look like cheapos, or what??
For years Apple held back on ram for no reason. It didn’t affect the battery life like we had been told. So it was just penny pinching.
I think it plays against their aspirational product stories: these phones and computers ought to be regarded more as appliances than pieces of technology. It has been this way for a while- what story does the product tell. It's worked well for a long time but not in this scenario. Why do ppl think apple doesn’t disclose RAM size? To not look like cheapos, or what??
Because the RAM they used to put in iPhones and iPads was pathetic. I had the original iPad Air with its one gig of RAM. The worst Apple product I ever owned. Why do ppl think apple doesn’t disclose RAM size? To not look like cheapos, or what??
On Reddit people are saying this is an iPhone 14 replacement. That’s odd considering they’re marketing it as part of the 16 family. Considering they removed the SE from the lineup it’s not surprising people are assuming the 16e is the replacement for that.I immediately rushed over to Apple PR, I mean, Daring Fireball to see what breathless words of praise our favorite brown-noser would lay at the feet of this new marvel of engineering. Nothing yet. I think even he is struggling with what to write. I'm saddened that Apple lacked the shame to hold back the 16e. I have my quibbles with my 16 PM but at least it's a fully formed device.
How can you know that more ram doesn’t affect battery life? For years Apple held back on ram for no reason. It didn’t affect the battery life like we had been told. So it was just penny pinching.
Those components are DIRT CHEAPSo 128GB storage and 8GB RAM have nothing to do with the price increase?
It supports wireless chargingThis has to be the worst iphone they have ever offered. No magsafe, no color options, single camera? Oh but it has the AI grift built in.
Such a shame how far the value proposition has fallen for the SE line. The power and price of the original SE made it one of the best phones ever produced. No camera bump, square edges, small form factor. The perfect phone but too weak nowadays to run some apps.
Obviously I am biased as someone who still uses an iphone mini, but there is zero appeal to this new 16E when you could just get a regular 16 for $100 more when it inevitably drops to $700 when the iphone 17 releases.
well it has a18 so yes, it is an updated 14On Reddit people are saying this is an iPhone 14 replacement. That’s odd considering they’re marketing it as part of the 16 family. Considering they removed the SE from the lineup it’s not surprising people are assuming the 16e is the replacement for that.
