This is simply NOT true. iOS 18 is the most stable OS I've seen for my iPhone and my iPads.
Your instability is being caused by 1 or 4 things:
1. Software corruption. Take your phone to Apple.
2. Hardware issue. Something is broken. Take your phone to Apple.
3. You installed software that is crippling your phone. Erase your phone and start again.
4. Misinterpretation of what you're seeing on your phone.
Yes but your basing that off the previous 429 price point but come September when the 15’s are removed then suddenly Apple have managed to squeeze more money out of customers going forward because that’s suddenly the cheapest
OK fair point. I still say this is similar to the iPad lineup where you have products that overlap a lot and it feels like they’re designed to fill price points. Assuming most people are paying for their phone over time the 16 is roughly $8 more per month than the 16e. If someone can afford $25/mo for the 16e I highly doubt they couldn’t afford $33/mo for the 16. I understand smaller phones don’t sell well but I think it’s a mistake for Apple to not have a sub $500 phone in their lineup.
Yep! There's a performance advantage to it not being able to handle AI.
Luckily, I don't yet care about Apple AI. I'm sure it'll get better, at which point I'll no doubt have upgraded. The 17 is looking a likely purchase.
Yes I get that. Everything is about moving price points higher. That’s how you make tens of billions in profit every quarter.

I'm hedging my bets that the Pro iPhones will come with 12GB RAM this year and is why the 16 Pros held not weight for me when they were released.
Yeahhhh... I don't know if I'm gonna be replacing my Apple devices with their new versions once they reach obsolescence unless something big changes. I can get pretty similar in most aspects outside of Apple (for less $ )thanks to Apple allowing its competitors( and in some case helping) to erase the gap that made Apple different.
Too early to tell. Let's see in a couple of years. I agree with the respect to the short term

I immediately rushed over to Apple PR, I mean, Daring Fireball to see what breathless words of praise our favorite brown-noser would lay at the feet of this new marvel of engineering. Nothing yet. I think even he is struggling with what to write. I'm saddened that Apple lacked the shame to hold back the 16e. I have my quibbles with my 16 PM but at least it's a fully formed device.
Apple doesn't let you upgrade it. They offer less than most Android flagships.
If Apple couldn't charge for storage, they wouldn't advertise it either. Many flagships now start with 256GB.

We used to hear every manner of excuse to cover for the low RAM ... other than the real reason, which was, to your point, Apple being greedy
I think it plays against their aspirational product stories: these phones and computers ought to be regarded more as appliances than pieces of technology. It has been this way for a while- what story does the product tell. It's worked well for a long time but not in this scenario.
Because the RAM they used to put in iPhones and iPads was pathetic. I had the original iPad Air with its one gig of RAM. The worst Apple product I ever owned.
On Reddit people are saying this is an iPhone 14 replacement. That’s odd considering they’re marketing it as part of the 16 family. Considering they removed the SE from the lineup it’s not surprising people are assuming the 16e is the replacement for that.
How can you know that more ram doesn’t affect battery life?
It occurs to me this leaves a giant hole for the One+ of the world that offer a premium experience for cheaper. Thankfully Apple stepped up their game with the Invites app, that kind of stickiness screams ecosystem lock-in! Oh and there's iMessage for anyone that uses that...
