Because this is literally an iPhone 14 with newer processor, and way too much downgrades and economy (old screen, old wifi, bluetooth, less physical cameras...). The 14's price was 599, so lower price is something to expect. Why would you expect $499 especially when it comes with most things the 16 has apart from extra camera lens & MagSafe
So far the Airtag page says this :So it doesn't have Precision Finding (ie Airtag) support?
Why would anyone prefer this phone to a 14 from 3rd party or even to the refurbished 15 (directly from Apple)? The price is very much the same. This is the iPhone for the people that say “I want to buy the cheapest iPhone possible, because I don’t have money for an AirTag, a MagSafe charger, in my home I don’t have Wi-Fi, I don’t have a dog and a cat” so I will only use the camera to take occasional pictures of anything without importance.
Or “this is the iPhone that the company brought to me and will only check my corporate e-mail, and they don’t buy me anything else than a USB-C cable for charging”.
Or “this is my grandma’s new iPhone; now they can FaceTime me”.
All missed features are pointless to the market Apple is targeting.
Because, ladies and genteel men, this is the cheapest iPhone that you can or will could buy new, with a contract or at retail, and there’s millions of people that can afford the USD$600, but not the USD$800.
So, if you want MagSafe or UWB, please, buy the 16 non-e and…
nah thats a lazy take it’s actually better value than a 15Because this is literally an iPhone 14 with newer processor, and way too much downgrades and economy (old screen, old wifi, bluetooth, less physical cameras...). The 14's price was 599, so lower price is something to expect.

They literally took the 14 away, replaced it with sth WAY WORSE, and GOUGED THE PRICE.Because this is literally an iPhone 14 with newer processor, and way too much downgrades and economy (old screen, old wifi, bluetooth, less physical cameras...). Another way to think about this is that Apple will sell a lot of cases that add MagSafe compatibility like the ones that are everywhere in the Android world already. Then they will sell accessories on top of that.Apple are being a bit myopic by not including MagSafe. The 16e will become the default phone for a lot of business contracts, and MagSafe would have brought a lot of potential accessory sales.
I’m sure they did this so their C1 modem would have a fighting chance.Yup Apple cheapened out again in cellular. The OnePlus 12 and 13 destroy 16 Pro Max at any place.
