And, likewise, those who start foaming at the mouth with anger at the latest "Mark Gurman says" that Apple might possible do something that they don't like, at some unspecified time in the future.

Mind you, I'm old enough to remember the fury and hate directed at Apple when they removed the floppy disk drive from the Mac, so I tend to assume that none of this really matters in the long run.
Touche! I think you are correct as this is rumor, but the floppy disk / CDROM analogy is a false equivalence as wired headphones are just as relevant today as ever, and will remain as such as they were before apple removed the jack from the iphone, but none of their macs.

That's fine with me. Let's finally close all the dust and liquid collectors on the iPhone. I've only plugged a USB-C into my iPhone once, and that was when I wanted to do a clean install, I only charge with MagSafe. I also hope they move away from the mechanical buttons.

I can probably get away with no USB-C port. The only trouble I can potentially see is loading photos and video off of my camera and dash cam. The dash cam files can be wirelessly transmitted when my wireless CarPlay isn't interfering with it, and I suppose I can just load my camera photos onto my iPad or MacBook. And if I need a quick charge boost - wireless charging just isn't fast enough some times. Not a deal breaker, but might make things somewhat inconvenient for me.

I exclusively use USB-C. It’s faster with USB-PD.

Then the 17 Air might not be the phone for you. I don't think they'll drop USB-C completely, the other iPhones will probably still have USB-C. But let's see if it ends up like that - it's not certain Apple is so brave as to sacrifice something that is such a vital feature for many people.

Apple: always making it harder to use anything but iCloud. It must annoy them to no end that USB-C can't even generate MFi revenue. Those ok with idea of port removal, just be aware that it will just make Apple's rent seeking behaviour worse.
Have you tried saving a file locally with M$’s Office? It is a confusing mess. Not giving Apple a pass, but these companies are in love with subscriptions and will steer you into them any way they can.

I am probably in the minority, but when my phone has a huge camera bump, the last thing i want is the rest of the phone to be slimmer. I liked the phones that were basically flush with the camera. I also like the better cameras that came with the bump. I would prefer if they put R&D towards figuring out a way to make the camera just as good, but without protruding instead of a “thinner” phone that really isn't thinner. Just because the thinnest part of the phone is X mm, does not make the phone X mm thick (IMO)

My 2018 mazda does not.

People update their phones more often and then they buy a new car. Especially with the possibility of car prices skyrocketing

Your 2018 Mazda supports Bluetooth. You don’t need to connect your phone to a USB port to use it with your car.

You can just buy a wireless charger, possibly one with MagSafe that connects to the cigarette lighter socket.

Part of the problem is CarPlay. Some people have cars that have only wired CarPlay support.

Those people would need to purchase a wired/wireless CarPlay adaptor. Some of the people here are likely to be surprised that they purchased an iPhone without a port, and that they have wired CarPlay, and that they then need to get an adaptor to make these work together.

Easy enough fix but one that will take some by surprise.

People said the same thing when the iPhone did not support expandable storage. Somethings, using Apple products means being willing to embrace design purity in exchange for options or versatility (I know there are people who will simply go "why not just eschew the charging port if you don't want to use it"?

That said, not that Jony Ive is no longer with Apple, I don't see anyone left who might try to push for this idea. The idea of a port-less iPhone is not a new one, and today, I am not sure it's anything more than a cynical attempt to farm outrage and draw in the views and clicks.

No charging port is wireless charging. Wireless charging is degrading battery faster. Degrading battery faster is increasing service revenue. Increasing service revenue is more revenu.

As a shareholder this is great.

Yes, wired CarPlay can be a problem. But..

..If people finally buy a 17 Air, which will probably NOT be cheap, then they will probably witness that this model is special - as it is not only extremely thin and expensive - but also comes without a port. The salesperson in the store where it is purchased will probably also point this out. Ultimately, people have a responsibility to investigate what they are buying before they swipe their credit card.

The EU regulations require a USB-C port so the 17 Air will have one.

Apple is famous for getting rid of things that everyone screams about, but later they're proved to be right. Like the floppy disc drive etc. But in the case of the usb-c port? I dunno. Especially on the Pro iPhones. Lot's of people need that port to transfer video/photos quickly while editing. In theory having a port-less phone sounds cool... but practically is it really? You'll still have to carry around a wireless charger while traveling. Wireless charging is still not as fast as wired charging. Maybe eventually Apple will solve all these issues, but i don't think it's gonna be anytime soon.

you can use your phone while is charing with the cable...that means is really wireless?
Almost every car has this, and it will have. Until the whole industry will adopt this , all new cars will have inductive charging by default
Which means you cannot use your iPhone while it is charging unlike using wire to charge. Or you mean we just carry a MagSafe charging pad while using iPhone? Isn’t inductive charging pad on cars fixed? Also, is there any that can offer up to 100W “wireless” charging today? I’d like to know.
