Received the Phone Rebel Gen 7 for the Air today. First impressions are very good. As always for PR, the fit is snug and precise, and really couldn’t be better other than to be a bit tighter at the top. The buttons are excellent (though they rattle a bit), the grip is just right, and the hand comfort is up there with the Apple cases. The flush sides/top/bottom are really nice for swiping, with the added benefit of making the case feel surprisingly thin for how protective it is. I thought the lump above the CC button was going to be a thing, but in reality it’s a non-issue. So far, there’s not much to call out other than the fact that it’s a tank at 50 grams, which is perhaps too much for the Air.

The obvious comparison is with the Mous Limitless. As the photos show, the Mous is noticeably deeper and more squared-off. With its rounded edges, the PR is more comfortable in the hand. The Mous fits well, but not quite as tightly as the PR, which might actually be a plus for frequent case-swappers—the PR is an absolute bear to install and remove. Both are well built with excellent QC on my copies. The Mous scores points for its wider variety of finishes (love the walnut), stiffer frame, better drop protection, and lighter weight (40g vs 50g). The PR wins on comfort, grip, screen access, and staying truer to the phone’s original form factor.

I originally intended to keep both, but may return the PR due to its weight—in my opinion, 50 grams is a bit too much for the Air.

Got a chance to install the replacement batch that supposedly has better hole alignments, and it’s much better. The lens cutouts are still not 100% centered but much better than the old batch. The bottom speakers are perfectly aligned whereas previously, the speakers were a bit higher up.

I just said F it, might as well just try the full body skin since I paid for it, and if the top peels off, then I’ll just toss it. To my surprise, none of the sides peeled off.

@Sal09 Not sure if you waited a full 24 hrs for the adhesive to cure, but thats what I did. Also, what I did was put the top in first, then pulled the bottom of one of the corners, push the phone in, then pulled the opposite corner and side while simultaneously pushing the corner of the screen down. You can barely tell on the back.

Not sure if the cure time or technique worked, but I’m overall very happy with how it went. Definitely takes a LOT of patience to align the skin before squeegeeing out the water and carefully heating up the edges, while pushing down with your fingers, making sure not to stretch it.

Just a note for those interested in the full body skins, the sides are not 100% covered due to the curvature of the frame:

Did you have the installation instructions in your replacement Sheath? My supposed replacement did not have that, and it honestly shows the same misalignments and has poor fit on sides.

I told Caudabe, but they are now wanting more evidence of issues. I am sort of tired of it. Not sure I want to deal with any of it anymore. Already had two sets of bad buttons and misaligned cutouts once.

my black sheath on the 14 pro always had

my black 14 pro sheath was a mess along with crap buttons but this grey sheath is perfect no dirt buildup and perfect everywhere else except for slight misalignment which caudabe said they are sending over a replacement for hopefully its fixed

Good luck. My replacement was almost just as misaligned. Make sure they actually give you an updated one. If they replace with another old stock, they’ll push back on you for another replacement.

The Mous fits precisely, but not as tight as the PR, which might make it better for serial case swappers—the PR is an effing bear to install and remove. Both are beautifully constructed cases, with excellent quality control, at least on my copies. I feel the main things the Mous has going for it are the variety of different finishes they offer, and the fact that it’s 7 grams lighter (Mous 43g, PR 50g). Other than that, the PR has it beat in comfort, fit, grip, screen access, and more closely mimicking the form factor of the phone. I’ll likely be keeping both.

That Mous case is thick. I’ve never been impressed with any Mous case. I think they are more overrated than Caudabe. Mous cases have always felt cheap to me. If I wanted a case with a sticker, I would just get the dBrand Grip. I agree on all points about the PR Gen7 for the Air, just can’t beat that fit. Is the 17 Pro/Max versions that loose that it gets no love here now?

I'm wondering the same thing. Now that the PR is available on Amazon (easy returns), I'm wondering about that top portion people say can be loose/flimsy. The PR I had on my 15PM was super firm up there. Have they changed the bumper material or is it simply because of the open camera plateau?

I also wish they'd come out with a full camera plateau cover that didn't have the "Gen 7" on it. That doesn't really vibe with my silver 17 Pro.

The material seems the same as always. My guess is that it’s because of the large opening for the plateau on the version for the Pro as you’ve suggested. It’s probably not as much of an issue on the Air version due to the precise cutouts.

Mous addressed this by surrounding the plateau with a rigid poly frame. They appear to be one of the few companies that did this.

On my version for the Pro the top is a bit more loose than the rest (which doesn’t budge at all when pulled). I still have to pull really hard to move it. It’s a non issue imho. No way will the phone pop out there and no debris will get under it.

I agree on all points here for the Pro version as well. The PR seems like an extension of the phone itself instead of something slapped onto it. No complaints after several days with it. Some people might not like the slightly rattly buttons though.
I will also add that making phone calls is more comfortable with the PR, because the Mous‘s rim around the top part sort of digs into one’s ear while on the phone.

I've had multiple cases before, but find I settle on one and just leave that one on all the time, so now I generally just purchase the one case to start with and stick with it - usually for all the time I have the phone, or until the case falls apart!
