After a couple of days in the Pitaka Edge, I’m back in the Beats Rugged today. Something I knew, but was too nonchalant about, cost me a screen protector and a narrow miss. These thin Pitakas really have to always be laid down with the screen face up—there is zero lip. When you lay it face down, two things are likely to happen. One, you’re going to scratch your screen or screen protector in short order (it took a day); and two, at some point your phone is going to slide off of whatever surface you’ve set it on. Both happened to me yesterday.

The sliding thing will catch you off guard. If you set it face down on a smooth surface, the phone essentially floats on the surface, and when you’re not looking, it will inch its way downhill on whatever tiny slope there is until it drops off the edge. This happened on an ottoman this time—earlier this year it was on a dining room table. Fortunately there was no visible damage, but I’m feeling like running an ultra thin on this phone is too risky.

I went and got myself a Casetify Impact case on Prime day because it was 20€ cheaper than usual (we all know these things are horribly overpriced). I already had one for my old Samsung and always wanted to get one for an iPhone but the Website was always so overwhelming (like, what do you mean… 7600 results?!). Amazon only had a handful designs, so it was easier to choose one. It also comes with a CC button now. Yeah the other buttons are integrated, but super clicky. CC button is good. And it fits like a glove and is easy enough installed and removed. I have no complaints right now. I know it will eventually scratch, but with a busy design on the back, it‘s not that noticeable. And it was now cheaper than an official Apple case, which would fall apart much earlier than this 🙃
New favorite case currently in open plateau season.

I have zero regrets Pro Max > Pro. So much easier for me to use with fat cheeseburger fingers. With a pop socket it works well for me. Not everyone’s cup of tea; but not sure I can go back to Pro Max. That’s why I want to try an Air; it’s between Pro and Pro Max size lol… I was slightly concerned about battery going Max to regular Pro but let’s me honest… it’s 2026 we have chargers everywhere we turn or battery backs. Haven’t had battery regret.
I did the same. 15PM -> 17 Pro. One thing that helped is in between the time I got the 15PM and the 17 series, Apple upped the regular Pro from 6.1" to 6.3". My wife has the 15 Pro and any time I have to do something on it, especially typing, it is just way too cramped for me.

I initially got the 17PM because I've always had the Plus/Max models. But it just felt so huge, and it's not like things scale to the bigger size. It just felt big to be big. So I returned it and got the 17 Pro instead.

Funny thing is, while waiting at the store for them to bring the phone out, I messed around with the Air and immediately wondered if I should go with it instead. That 6.5" screen felt perfectly sized. I came so close to getting it instead, but I'm an amateur photographer in my past time and only one camera made me shy away from it.

If they make an Air 2 and add a second camera (which they should since it looks like the Ultra will have two cameras and is slimmer when opened than the Air), then I'll go that way the next time I upgrade.

But I'm good with the 17 Pro for now. I've adjusted pretty well to it.

I 100% agree. PM too big for me; I could handle slightly larger than Pro. The thinness of Air makes screen feel less large, too…. If they do an Air 2 I will really be on a divide!

Also, since I'm sticking with the 17 Pro instead of upgrading, I took advantage of the Caudabe sale that ended last night and picked up the Sheath in Eucalyptus and Paragon in open Moonstone. I wish Caudabe had gone ahead with making a precise Paragon in Moonstone, but I guess they gave up on it.

I also had a 30% off and $15 gift card, so I put them on different orders so I could burn those before their rewards end.

I recently got the eucalyptus and it rocks. Waiting on celestial blue. Then I’ll have 4 Sheaths different colors.

I don’t ever use the Pro features. I just point and shoot. Would have been better off the a 17 base. Especially after handling a coworker’s base. Noticeably lighter.

The bezels are identical on the 17 Pro the only difference is screen size. It wouldn’t make sense for Apple to offer fatter bezels to the 17 Pro vs PM. Correct me if I’m wrong.
You have been corrected sir. This is why a lot of 17 pro max screen protectors cut off viewable screen but not the 17 pros. The accessory makers cheaped out and based it of the 17 pro’s bezels.
