My 14 Pro’s battery health is at 87% so by the time the 17 Pro gets released, I’ll definitely need to upgrade.
Mine is almost 90%. i mostly keep it in Low Battery mode (Made a shortcut that automatically keeps low battery mode on), I try not to charge over 80%, and dont use wireless charging -- all of which should help prolong the battery life.

No must have features so far
Hopefully Apple adds a must have feature

Aluminum more bendable than titanium. Isn’t that why Apple switched to Titanium ?

What happened to the underscreen Face ID??

Aluminium must be cheaper. I can't see any other reason to switch from titanium. I've got a titanium watch and a titanium pushbike, both counted as far more premium than their aluminum counterparts.

That’s apple. If you want a stylus, get an Apple Pencil. But a stylus is still not an innovation in 2024. If it’s a deal breaker for one , get a Samsung.
Apple pencil doesn't work with the phone. Just saying "if you want a stylus buy Samsung " (and I did) doesn't hide the lack of innovation.

Smaller and smaller incremental updates year after year. Anyone remember early ~2008-2010 when Apple released iPad and MacBook Air and iPhone. Apple just doesn't take risks anymore, even though they have all that capital available, and the risks they do take are questionable like Vision Pro and FineWoven cases. It just shows what an tremendous asset Jobs really was, that man had fire in his soul he wouldn't have sat on his pile of gold, granted he might have eventually gone crazy and tanked the company but hey at least it would have been entertaining.

Now to be perfectly honest with myself I'm happy with current state of affairs, MBP is such a great device at the moment, I got M1 16" Pro, 3 years old and I can cruise on it for another 3 years easily, maybe more. Same with iPhone 13 mini, theres no reason to update or look at anything else. Tech has taken a back seat in my life and just serves as tools not passion or hobby objects like before and thats just fine, perfect even.

just wondering, why Apple cannot make a Ti frame lighter than Al
The grade 5 titanium Apple uses in the iPhone 15 and 16 Pro and Pro Max is actually denser and heavier than the 7000 series aluminum Apple uses in the non-Pro versions of these iPhones. This titanium weighs about 4.43 grams per cubic centimeter, while the aluminum weighs about 2.72 to 2.81 g/cm³. But titanium is stronger, so presumably less of it is required to achieve the proper strength and near-equivalent weight, compared to aluminum. But I don’t know if this presumably lower bulk of titanium allows for significantly more space inside the iPhone for things like a larger battery, more components, etc.

So, it may be that, in balance, to make a titanium frame that's lighter than aluminum might require it to have less bulk/volume than is appropriate to achieve the proper strength, and Apple seems unlikely to make another iPhone frame that bends or breaks too easily, just to get a slight decrease in weight.

There are newer types of aluminum stronger than the 7000 series, but currently most of these are still experimental, with the rest being high-end, expensive forms that might cost more than Apple wants to spend, and some, maybe all of these are less ductile/more breakable and brittle than might be practical for the stresses that a phone sometimes experiences.

Assuming the other person isn’t doing any of that silliness it doesn’t seem like it’s making any difference. 87% and “almost 90” whatever that means is the same thing.

They would only switch back to Aluminum for three possible reasons: availability issues, lighter weight and/or increased cost.

If the aluminum on the Pros ends up being true I wonder how Apple will spin it as an "upgrade" using Aluminum on the Pros after 6 years of stainless steel and 2 years of Titanium.
simple saving the globe....... 100% reused aluminium easier and cheaper to tool ect ect... and they make more money...

When are we gonna get a 10x telephoto lens like Galaxy had had for ages now? Or a stylus? Or a screen that looks good outdoors? Innovation seems to have stopped at Apple awhile ago now.
A stylus ? On a phone ? Who really want to do that ?? Ah yes… Samsung 🤦🏻‍♂️
An aluminium frame is a new feature - really?
the only reason for that must be the weight and to keep prices under control (meaning they cannot ask for more money for the new iPhone).
Fantastic, Rip off Google's camera system , i mean im not complaining , but the camera setup on the pixels is much better for balance on a table , so i hope these changes happen , i currently run a pixel fold , but it will be 3 years before i go back to iphone ( contract )
who is typing on a phone while it is on a table ? I find a that very uncomfortable, balanced or not.
Just give me a dang folding phone already! Apple used to be more innovative
Another Samsung gimmick we don’t need. Folding phones are a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.
September 2025 marks (about) five years since I got a new iPhone which means it's finally time to upgrade.

Finally..! 🥳

A19 chip should give me a little more than a 2x performance boost across the board.

Well, considering how little iOS optimization is done for older iPhones, it's probably going to feel like an even bigger jump than 2x.

Either way, iPhones 17 are going to be awesome (for me)!
well if you really upgrade every 5 years, a new iPhone always is a great purchase. I wouldn’t go that far, but an upgrade every 3 years is perfect (even if admittedly I upgrade every other year…).

This is clear - still with bike frames titanium beats aluminum as the reduced thickness of the tubes compensates for the higher density, while having better stiffness and resilience.
Steel tubes can be made even thinner but not enough to counter the additional density.
While steel and titanium frames (for bikes) have avid supporters - nobody likes aluminum frames.

I guess the challenge is that Titanium is very difficult to handle and the process for everything else than a tube is probably not mature enough. So at the end for Apple it is higher cost for worse properties.

I can answer that plain and simply. They will market is as:

"Made from 100% recycled, aerospace-grade aluminum."
yes - for sure they will.

But I guess that at the end, it will cheaper and lighter, which is what counts for a phone.

For a watch with a lot of skin contact titanium will still make sense, as the thin oxidation layer will prevent skin irritation for many.
