iPhone 5 - black and slate
iPhone 7 - matte black, jet black
iPhone 14 Pro - space black
Interestingly new iPhone 17 Pro Deep Blue reminds me of iPhone 5 Slate Black. Gotta see it in more reviews and myself, but probably it is almost the same color, just a bit more saturated (because 5 had never really looked slate or black: it had slightly blue tint)

Around 70% of all people use cases on their phones.

The colors of the phone is for the initial buying impulse you have when you're in the store or shopping online.

You can choose to have a black case with accents of the phone being visible like below.

Or something that also covers the plateau.

All an all the color of the phone is most relevant when you're buying it - and Apple knows this very well.

I'm not upgrading this year, but I'd grab that orange, followed by the blue. My 16PM is titanium and deserved a case to cover its blandness, so the silver wouldn't even be a blip on my radar.

Forest green. I'm holding out for forest green.

Silver phone with Orange or Purple TechWoven case also looks quite good.

Plus the silver will age better as it's not painted.

I’m very torn between a:

Silver phone with a black/grey case.
A orange phone with a dark black or blue case(Mets colors)
A dark blue phone with a silver case.

Silver is the most boring but it's more versatile with any case and it's the second most common color after black. Orange I would get bored of it pretty quick and blue is like a cheap black IMO.

I will take silver and choose and great black case and call it a day. If you want later on to have a case with different colors it will be easier to match with silver. It's a classic for a reason.
I also think Silver is the only color that will stay for next Pro phone. Maybe blue will stay but I am not even sure especially if they add black next year it's kind of redundant.
They want people this year to notice how the Air is sexy because it's highest profit margin phone of the line up.

I saved my pre-order for a Deep Blue 17 Pro Max. Looking forward to it. Looks really nice in videos and photos. I loved the orange initially, but I just can't do an orange phone. if it were more of a burnt orange, I may have gone that direction.
If you case your phone, that techwoven case looks burnt orange and could be nice with the orange plateau peeking through.

I considered buying an orange car one time. It looked really nice in the showroom, but I knew I would get tired of owning it. :)

Current preorder is orange, I wish it had a bit more copper in it, maybe in the right light? The shade they went with gives me Creamsicle or Orange Julius vibes. I don't use cases normally, but walking down the street, do I really want to be seen from 6 blocks away?

I am not liking the design or the colors for the pro. I have a 15pm and think it’s a beautiful phone. Bottom lime is if you need the pro, then a case will solve the problem. I’m going for the white 17 this time.
Cases for iPhone Pros
• add volume to Apple's fattest iPhones
• make an iPhone Pro harder to get in and out of a pants pocket
• defeat the simple elegance of most iPhones' designs
• add cost

True. We have been complaining about no ~gray choices, but we really need to see to new iPhones in person. No clickbait reviews by talking heads for me thank you.

I cannot make up my mind on the color. My favorite color is blue and outside of the case the blue one looks nice. But the reality is like you said, these phones end up in case 99.9% of the time and in my experience the darker phones don't look as good in cases as the lighter ones (I have the Purple 14 Pro Max now). So I think what I will end up going with is the orange phone with a darker case. The dark case will make it look professional and the little pop of color on the camera bump will give it some pizzazz.

Yep their goal this year is to direct everyone to that New Air. Next year they will go back to Space Black and Space Grey for the Pro’s
I normally hate when people say things like this, but Steve was very clear about his opinion on such things: if your product is cannibalized by one of your other products, it's a good thing. If you're artificially setting up the conditions for such instead of making all of your products the best they can be, that's not so good. If that was their goal, then I can confidently state Jobs would not have approved.

Explain how in the heck you can have Loud Orange, Silver and Dark Blue, but can’t have black? Doesn’t make sense. Seems intentional to get people so annoyed that they look more at the Brand New iPhone Air model.

My apple watch (series 7) is the 'midnight' color. It's seemingly meant to be such a dark blue that it can pass for black, but somehow also pass for blue. The stock photos of the watch don't do it justice. It is really dark. I'm wondering if this blue is meant to be similar.

Also none of the new silicon cases match well with the iPhone 17 colors. It looks mix match 😂 I can’t have black on black this year because Apple 🍎 wants to be color silly this year for the pro models.

I will try the Dark Blue Pro model with a clear case, since I obviously can’t do black phone black silicon case like I usually do.
