Guess I will eat my words regarding the design.
It might be not the most logical placement for a flash, but if Liquid Glass has shown us anything, it is that sometimes things neither are useful nor pretty to be good enough for Apple.

Apple's next-generation iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are just over two months away, and there are plenty of rumors about the devices.

Is the iPhone 17 regular A19 chip?

If this is how it ends up looking I wonder why they don’t just bring back thick phones and increase the battery size/ general sturdiness. I mean with the size of that thing it would easily ad like 40-50% battery life, would look better and feel smoother…. Now you’ll just have to,put a case on it that lacks most of the benefits.

Ey I called it, no matter how pro we were so far, we weren’t pro enough to record the front and back camera at the same time…
Even though we were since the iPhone X, when Apple showcased a third party app on stage during the reveal event…
Apparently back then the new iPhone feature was compatibility, now it’s integration.
7 years later. Such innovation.

Even if it CAN record 8k, seems kinda like an edge use case. 6k would be plenty.
4k is plenty. Even 1080p is plenty. What's important is the sensor size and optics. Upping the pixels is cheap and won't make any difference unless pixel peeping, in which case 4k is fine. 8K is just.. beyond useless.

I'll pass as well. Thanks but no thanks. I was already very happy to have skipped the 16 Pro seeing all the bugs and still unresolved hardware issues to this day like how rotating it to landscape and back to portrait on the homescreen breaks touch input on all 16 Pros for a couple seconds.

I don't want that new "design" or downgrade from the titanium frame or have iOS 26 lauch day bugs haunting me for months.

I like the new design of the backside, nice visual balance of the components. The larger battery is very much appreciated, although it would have been nicer with the latest type of battery that allows 6000mAh capacity that we now see from the Chinese flagships. With 86% capacity on my iPhone 14 Pro Max, I am often running out of battery when having used the phone outdoor. It is welcome with the minor camera upgrades, more importantly is if the sensors have been upgraded to 1.3" sizes for the ultrawide and tele while an 1" sensor for the main camera, as this would allow better natural low light photography.
Will definitely get the new iPhone 17 Pro Max, and perhaps also the iPhone 17 Air as a gym device to have around my neck while listening to audiobooks and podcasts.

Ok so does this mean we can finally use the camera while on FaceTime without pausing?
I don't think so Tim. But no, I really doubt that. Apple has these quirks that are entirely on the OS side and if they were resolved it would probably work on any iPhone that gets iOS 26.

For a moment I thought wow that's a damn ugly design for the back, would hate to look at this every day.
Only to realise I have no idea how my current iPhone's back looks like. Haven't removed the case for months… 🤷‍♂️

Guess it's all just an elaborate plan to sell more cases! 😅

The thicker battery is confusing to me. Battery life is already very good and usually gets better with processor upgrades. Why add more battery?
My 15 Pro was actually far worse than my 11 Pro at 100% battery health. It’s still and always a gamble how your specific unit turns out. More battery capacity for everybody would be great for everyone.

If the thing ends up looking like this and with a similar feature set then we can’t call them rumours anymore can we?
Uhhhh
They are rumors until the device is released or recorded in the wild. After that they might be called leaks or correct guesses.
Until then, rumors, yes.

I prefer for something to look ugly to others that will promise me luxury than something that looks pretty and gives me headaches like the rumored 17 Air with a nano sized battery and less camera and other functions eliminated.

Same goes when humans are involved with relationships. The so called ugly looking person turns out to be the most kind and loyal/supportive you ever met in your experience.
(Un)fortunately the interior and exterior are entirely synthetic with these things. The design team has little to do with how reliable the software works. Battery size is only one of many considerations.

iPhone 18 in 2026 will be the one to keep an eye on.

1) 2nm chip, 33% die shrink from 3nm. Expect major improvement in battery life and thermals. Come on TSMC, get those yields up.

2) Apple C2 modem. C1 was the first gen test run in iPhone 16e. Expect C2 to be fully competitive with offerings from Qualcomm and the others. All bands supported.

3) Something better than lithium-based battery. Good enough to erase all criticisms of the Air phone compromising on battery life.

Also, it is my opinion that Apple should maintain a 'hero' color on all of its products for several years. Maybe for this year it's Sky (Tiffany?) Blue, put it on the MacBooks, Apple Watches, iPhones, iPads etc. Do it for 3 to 5 years.

Cue the “if it looks like that I’m not buying it in a million years” followed by the “I’ve preordered, what delivery date did you get?” posts.

gamble how your specific unit turns out.
We got multiple 15 Pros in the family and I noticed this trend that everybody who is on tiktok a lot and has all these apps installed suffers from mediocre battery life. In one case I helped reset that thing and we fixed the battery drain but of course a couple weeks later that family member had over 50 third party apps installed yet again and went through their days with low battery again.

So to me it's clearly not a specific unit issue and more of a specific usecase/user issue. I strongly believe that if you take a dozen random 15 Pros straight out the factory and set them all up the same with the same set of apps they'll perform very similarly if not identical with battery life. These are mass produced with nearly the same components (sometimes a display panel is sourced from 2 different manufacturers) and all come with a similar battery capacity out of the factory.

How fast the battery ages and health declines is definitely a gamble though but for that you got the paid battery replacement service to restore battery life and hopefully get a longer lasting battery the second time around.

Expect major improvement in battery life and thermals.
Yet apps become more demanding and more feature-rich, displays see increases in size and brightness and HDR functionality, so these "major" improvements even out.

Something better than lithium-based battery.
Apple isn't known to implement something like that immediately. Once this tech is ready you can probably find it in some chinese brand phones first, then in all Android phones over the years and some more years later when that tech is old news Apple will advertise it as this great new thing in one of their keynotes. I mean look at the 60W Xiaomi charge speeds and how Apple only just gave us 25W fast charging starting with the 16 series.
