As I said, I like the haptics of the iPhone. If I wanted a cheap plastic exterior, I could just buy a bargain-bin Android phone....
Good idea! 😉
I understand that some like the feel of their phone, that’s understandable. It doesn’t mean much to me, it’s simply a tool. I like keeping it in good shape though, that’s my vice.

Meh - that camera hump doesn't make any sense as long as the lenses still stick out. 24mp front camera is probably nice for selfies and 12gb ram for a "pro" phone is ok-ish. Apart from that, again no reason to buy that oversized, overweight and, most important of all, quite overpriced brick - if that's all, I'll stick with my 13 mini. Glad that Apple intelligence arrived stillborn.
Okay, so you don't like the max sized phones. That doesn't mean I will like what you like. I hate small phones and love my ProMax, which is not oversized or overweight. Sorry. Maybe I'm stronger, so the larger phone doesn't bother me.

I’m relatively new to iPhones and won’t be getting another. Their problem is the software, it’s just dated and basically rubbish compared to Android. Sure the next iPhone might be a bit faster and have slightly improved camera etc, but it makes no difference when the software is a decade behind. They have billions in cash, they could hire thousands of new developers tomorrow, but yet they can’t even improve the keyboard. They are a joke of a company, or more accurately, they’re just ripping money out of people for nothing. Fool me once…
Rubbish, the software isn’t a decade behind. I have both Android and an iPhone and aside from a few things they are pretty similar in functionality.

Apple’s strategy works and they will not deviate from it. Small, incremental improvements. The won’t change it because you or anyone else says they should.
You realize iPhone sales have been dropping globally right?

Something in their strategy isn't working well. I don't believe it's their strategy it's just the majority of their users will never change grow or swap out as so many of their devices and these forums keep them anticipating and locked in.

Kill macrumors for 6mths and I'll bet many members wouldn't feel just as home on other forums and their interest will spike only to be let down as the noise of other options will seem louder to their eyes and ears.

For some such as myself there was 2 major reasons I had to look for a smartphone elsewhere: advanced protection ininitially was a failed implementation and goosed me for 30 days. The main one was iPhone 13 mini was not ever going to have an updated replacement which saddened me and Safari started showing many f the sites I frequented poorly and not sized correctly despite all settings I checked. Lastly a 3rd I needed a PC and didn't have one and 1 phone allowed me a much better experience especially when connecting to VMs in the cloud which helped me immensely.

The Mac Mini M4 Pro entices me a lot but I'm very sour Apple wouldn't even help me get a very crucial iMessage from my late mother that I just rekindled a loving relationship with I never had while kiving and growing up since birth to my 17th yr before moving out. 30yrs between us to finally correct major misunderstandings and build love. Yet would not verify me to update an old number tied to my icloud account. I tried to go back to iPhone but after a week I just gave up. I still get my emails forwarded.

While the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are not expected to launch until September, there are already plenty of rumors about the devices.

Ooooh! Nearly as ugly round the back as the current Google Pixel!

meh, that's a pretty standard +1 year list of Features, but it's a nothing-burger list of Benefits.

You do realize they are the most valuable company in the world, right? It’s not all about iPhone sales. (And I didn’t need a wall of text)

Apple used to follow a tick tock schedule
By keeping the same design for 2 years
And have a brand new design
Yup- 2 years was great but there many more phone models they have to revise every year now, so 3 years is good enough. I was referring to the very small size iterations within those ticks and tocks. As in: try to keep the exact same case size and shape for 2-3 years instead of changing it by tiny amounts every single year. 15 Pro Max was shorter and thinner than 14 Pro Max; 16 Pro Max is taller and wider than 15 Pro Max (see attached). Those minute changes every single year are very annoying.

A 256gb pro max is over 1400 euros in my country, for that money I’d expect to be able to do so much more. Mutiwindow multitasking ? A real accessible ffilesystem ? I’m thinking ten years, if ever. Until then it’s a feature phone and not a proper computing device that can be used to almost replace a desktop os. So yes, ten years.

The file system is part of iOS' security platform and I don't expect they'll be changing that significantly as it weakens security if apps can access the folders and files of other apps. It is what it is.

I wouldn't mind having multi window but honestly I didn't make much use of the feature on Android so I don't miss it much.

There are other choices. They don’t hide who they are.

My iPhone 12 is still going very strong. The one thing I wish I had is the telephoto lens but I'm not going to spend €1600 for a telephoto lens. Especially when I will have AI forced on me, something that I find utterly useless. I'm expecting to upgrade with the iPhone 19 or 20. By then the titanium frames will be back.

That's hilarious because I just switched back to iOS for the first time since the 12 Pro Max.

Things I've noticed:

1) Standby drain is so much better. My OnePlus 13 can't match my 16e unless I have basically nothing installed.

2) Notifications are no longer delayed or entirely missing, another improvement over recent Android devices where notifications can be delayed by hours or just be missed entirely.

3) App quality is so much better on iOS. I'm honestly shocked at how much better common apps like X and Reddit are on iOS. There's no comparison. This extends to games too. They just run much smoother on iOS than they do on Android because devs optimize for iOS.

4) Universal Spotlight search is SO much more convenient for how I use my phone. I use search rather than clutter up my home screen on my devices and I get so irritated with the fact that Google's search built in to the launcher pulls up the Google app, which means if I want to grab a 2FA code from Authy, I have to swipe twice to get back to the last app I was using. Since gestures on Android are less precise than they are on iOS, this often means I have to swipe three times to actually get back to the app that needed the code and then Android even closes the keyboard so I have to tap and bring that back up too, which always has about a half second lag no matter the device as well. I bring this up because it's a constant issue. Spotlight doesn't count as an app so I can use it, search for and open Authy, and when I swipe I go right back to the app that needed the code. None of this even touches on just how much more Spotlight can search. How Google hasn't implemented their own universal search is beyond me (and implementations by the OEMs are always lacking and clunky).

5) Google has started to make some annoying decisions that make the iPhone better for power users. For example, I use Microsoft Phone Link to get my notifications on my PC. With Android 15, Google now decides some things are too sensitive to show, and there is no option to get around that. Guess what? The iPhone pairs with Phone Link and shows me every single notification that comes in just as I want -- bonus points, I have yet to have it disconnect from my PC unlike every time I use an Android phone with the app nor have I had it fail to connect automatically when I bring the computer back from sleep, another constant fight with the Android phones. Google is also making it harder to sideload apps, not allowing them to have all the same permissions as apps installed from the Play Store without workarounds in settings (and OnePlus goes further here, not allowing you to override this limitation at all), while Apple is becoming less restrictive about allowed apps, which means I don't even need to sideload on iOS anymore.

6) On with the annoying decisions that Google is making, they're also going to make it harder to hide the fact you're rooted from apps. I have to root to be able to tolerate Android, as it allows me to undo Google's interference in how i use my device, but then I'm forced to give up tap to pay, banking, games, because of root detection. It's my phone, let me use it how I want!

Yes, the keyboard isn't the best. That's definitely something Apple should address. iOS 19 is said to be an entire design overhaul so it seems I moved at the right time but now that I can put icons anywhere I want on the screen, I'm not really that annoyed by the iOS interface anymore. I do hope Apple implements the ability to swipe to go back to the previous app at some point though. That particular gesture is very inconsistent and it's taking some getting used to. Like if I open a link from my email on my Android phone, I can swipe to go leave the browser and go back to my email, but on iOS, I have to tap the arrow in the top left corner. That's minor though and I'm getting used to it.

I don't care about the AI stuff one bit but yeah, if you want more of that nonsense, Android will give you that.

Anyway, I can't see myself going back to Android any time soon. Google has stepped up the nannying to a level I just can't tolerate anymore while Apple has relented in many ways and I am just so tired of fighting with my phone. Everything with Apple just works.
You can swipe the white bar at the very bottom of the screen left to go back to previously used app and swipe right to go to the next app (if you swiped left previously).

iPhone 17: the thinnest iPhone yet except for that massive fat bit at the top where the cameras are that no one ever talks about, because apparently nobody notices so we carry on saying it’s really really really thin.

Well, without sounding like a ********, maybe you should cause it’s not going anywhere. I know that, we know that, you know that. Embrace it, it take the piss out of it if you have to, but don’t ignore it.

As I've already replied multiple times, I'm aware of this option, but it's very hard to unlearn just swiping the left side of the screen. I am slowly taking to tapping the top left of the screen but it's still a weird adjustment.

It just never works well and having to correct whatever it screwed up takes more time than my just doing it myself to begin with.

I do have Perplexity Pro though (got it free with my Xfinity Rewards account) and I will use that from time to time but even that, I tend to just forget it even exists.

Apple is the master of marketing, convincing buyers that even with the most minimal improvements their products are a must buy. Equally masterful at cost control which yields maximum profit, this corporation continues to manage the narrative and thrive. No matter what one thinks, it’s quite the display of business prowess.
