Let’s hope the weight doesn’t pork up as well. It’s already a brick!
And the latest iPhones need a much better anti reflective coating and less screen dimming. Like the Samsung S25U.

Going to have to disagree on that. MagSafe is fine for occasional use, but if it's going to be on the phone all the time it's an incredibly inefficient way to charge. And I'd prefer something more secure than magnets. It really needs to have a physical lock mechanism and pogo pins.

Well, honestly, if I had my druthers, they would design the back of the phone like old-school cell phones where you could attach a battery permanently and choose your size and swap them out easily.

It’s really frustrating to me that in 2025 when we have such great design chops, we can’t design batteries that just detach easily and can be swapped out quickly and simply.

It’s a choice they are making and I don’t love it.

Hah - I remember the plastic backing of my Note 3. That thing felt great in my hand and it took 5 seconds to pop off the back and throw in a fresh battery (that was $20? if I remember right).

I’m looking forward to the iPhone 17 (26?) Pro Max to replace my iPhone 13 Pro Max… 👍🏻

I can easily get two full days without charging my 16 Pro. Three if I watch my usage.
Me too.

But I have chargers pretty much EVERYWHERE I go or sit. Two wireless chargers in the kitchen, one in the home office, charging cables hanging or dangling in the living room, the master bathroom, and in the guest room. And a cable in the car for Apple Carplay.

Most of the time, my iPhone is somewhere around 80% charged, and is paused charging until tomorrow.

Add fast charging to it (50W wired at least) and it's going into right direction (i hope it get also qualcomm snapdragon x85 not x80)

I welcome more battery coming from a 15PM. I’m not always at my desk for work so my battery gets hammered with social apps, video recording with the camera, email, and various work apps. Recording video is probably the biggest battery drain for me during the day.
I solve that by tossing a MagSafe powerbank in my bag. But yeah, video recording is going to hammer your battery.

I doubt most people want a phone that thick all the time.

I still use my iphone 6 with its integrated battery case that charges it *3 times* strictly as an ipod / podcast / music player and it's fantastic. It lasts me a week of working out and casually listening at home before it needs to be charged.

Almost every mid to high end Android has had AT LEAST a 5,000 mah battery for *years*. Most people? No idea, but when Apple is selling 4 or 5 different models of phone, I sure wish it sold one with a multi day battery. A "pro" phone that costs more than a laptop to me is at a minimum, one you don't have to worry about it running out of juice by the end of the day.

And currently 14 upvotes, 2 downvotes for a fatter, longer lasting phone (obviously MR readers are not the typical user, but there is absolutely strong demand for better battery life: See all the Chinese phones with 6,000 mah batteries). And the demand for all the battery cases, powerbanks, etc.

We can't easily know what "most users" will want (nor is that required to produce a phone model with certain features), but I have absolutely noticed a multi-year trend in people favoring more performance and features and less about "thinness" and aesthetic design. There is a reason Jony Ive no longer works at Apple.

When the market is as fragmented as it is today, you don't make phones for what "most people" want, which is why there are hundreds of phone choices and 3 or 4 different iphones to choose from at any given generation.

What many people are calling for is for Apple to offer something that is the antithesis of the Iphone 17 air -- a fatter, longer lasting phone heavy on performance and lighter on looks / weight. How would that sell? I would love for Apple to find out!

I know it's comparing Apple to Android but my phone from 2021 has a 4800mah battery. Still lasts me a day.

Even my iPad 9th gen supports it, and it's surprisingly smooth.
I doubt it's THAT heavy on GPU. In fact, probably has little effect on it.
Apple Silicon has become dramatically more powerful enabling software, materials and experiences we once could only dream of.”

A little bit of power throughout the day every day adds up.

I strongly disagree.

• Folks who need more than a day of capacity need to rethink their operational protocol. It should be easy to charge a phone at least once a day unless one is backpacking or something similar. Especially with MagSafe, just have chargers in multiple locations (bedroom, car, desk, etc.) and drop the phone on it when at that venue.

• Modern iPhones are pretty much supercomputers that we carry in our pockets. Folks who need more than a day of capacity for their supercomputers can easily buy add-on battery banks from third-party vendors.

• Those of us who manage our iPhones just fine with existing battery capacity prefer not to add extra unnecessary weight or volume or cost to achieve monster battery capacity that we do not need.

I strongly disagree with you too!

I used to charge everyday, but with my latest phones I have not had to charge everyday and I like it. I don’t have to worry about having charging devices everywhere.

I now want a device I have to charge only once a week.

I used to think there was no device too heavy, but the Nintendo Switch 2 with it’s 1.3 lbs of weight does get tiresome. The original switch with its 0.8 lbs of weight posed no problems. As long as an IPhone weighs less then 0.8 lbs I think I would be fine.

I don’t see why Apple can’t have a skinny phone for those that like that and a bigger one for those that like that. Not all phone have to be bestsellers as long as they sell enough, but companies seem to be obsessed with every device having to be bestsellers or else it gets cut.

That would be AMAZING!

I always went for the biggest battery when that was an option. And I'd get two of them, and an external charger so I could ALWAYS have a full battery ready.

Running well on that, yeah?
I have the same iPad and have been wondering about how it would handle it (or not).
I've got a 5th gen mini running the beta. It seems fine. No glitchier than I'd expect from a dev beta, and it's REALLY nice to have everything running in windows instead of full screen.

I just wish the iPhone was getting a windowed mode now.

Do people really need more battery life? I find it hard to believe. Sure, I’m a very light user with efficient settings and apps, but battery life on my 16 Plus is so ridiculously good that I wouldn’t ever need more.

Even with heavy usage patterns I’ve gotten a LOT of hours from my 16 Plus. 5G, heavy camera use, and outdoor brightness. I’d get two full days even of my heaviest usage pattern.

This will show why I can’t imagine people needing more. iPhone 16 Plus running iOS 18.3.1.

After 3h 55 min of SOT, the iPhone has 90% remaining (from 100%).

Lot of hours? We should be able to charge our phones once a week, if not longer! Counting battery life in terms of hours is ridiculous and I don't think I'll ever get used to it.

You’d be able to use a current iPhone for a week if you used it like people used the older cellphones that weren’t smartphones. Asking for a week is a bit too much, imo.

If it’s a matter of charging annoyance you can just use the fastest possible charger.

Do you use the iPhone’s speakers?

I CANNOT overestimate how much using the speakers destroys battery life. You’re much better off just using a Bluetooth speaker and connecting to that.
