I got my Silver 17 pro max delivered yesterday. Completed transfer from old iphone and suddenly realized that whenever I open camera app, there is clicking sound both for front and rear camera. It seems to be related to ois but i guess i got a faulty device. Has anyone encountered such clicking sound whenever camera opens? Thanks.

I have the exact same thing. The click is most noticable, when switching between modes on the camera app (does not always happen, though). Also, I get a faint click, when the phone is warm and I wake the screen. I can kind of feel the click if I rest my fingers underneath the camera hump. Odd.

So we tested this. Confirm that the iPhone does this on the 17 Pro. If the camera app is opened for the first time you will notice a small sound even when rotating the cam to the front. From that point it will be faint or not noticeable anymore even if you reopen the app.

If you close the app and open several other apps and reopen the camera app it happens again. Opening the camera app triggers the camera to turn on so this is normal.

I so tried an older iPhone 13 Pro it does the same thing although not that loud.

Unless its really loud i would exchange it.

Yeah, it’s not really about the colors or even the undeniably unattractive two-tone finish.
It’s the round corners, extra thick body and aluminium feel that make it almost like a soap bar. not a pretty design at all. Compared to the 16 Pro Max (or any other Pro from the 12 and up), this design is an instant disappointment.

The Air is in a league of its own, oozing premium style and modernity. It’s just the camera that’s making the decision so hard for me.
True! This plus I'm struggling to like iOS 26.

We used to have premium materials, square edges, flat design OS -- this time around, it feels like they went quasi-retro with a match up of a lot of different ideas that don't fit well together.

All designers left who inherited the true Apple DNA which made Apple great.

Now its about profits the whole aluminium design and material ceramic shield is cheaper and bends like the iPhone 6.

Liquid glass is an excellent theme, but poorly executed and again half-baked.

This again underlines the priorities are not in the products anymore but profit. Even after all the backlash they still have no focus on products.

I wonder what Jony Ive thinks of these new Pro iPhones lol
Probably not a big fan. The iPhone Air was made for him and probably presages Apple's intended direction for future Pros if they can figure out how to fit Ultrawide and Telephoto lenses in there. We saw how his direction in the Mac group led to the awful unrepairable butterfly keyboards and laptops with only 1-2 USB-C ports.

Very nice I just ordered a MagSafe card holder from LV this morning
They are nice, I have 2 of them, only downside is they bend out of shape super easy if you ever throw them in your pocket without a phone, that never happened to my regular apple wallets. gotta bend them back to get them to stick good on the phone lol

my 16 Pro Max makes the same click when activating a rear camera, and has a similar "whirring" noise to the 17 Pro Max when the camera is running (put it real close to your ear), but the 17 Pro Max is definitely louder on both. I'm assuming it is just a difference in the OIS or in how it echoes/reverberates within the aluminium housing. I wouldn't worry about it.

I had my eye set on the Air up until this morning when i checked it out in person at an Apple Store. It was light , sure, but I didn’t get the premium feeling people were saying, it was just light. The fact it is so thin I don’t think it’d feel comfortable in your pants pocket anyway, imagine put a credit card in your pocket. Then there are the compromises, the Air reminds me of the X when it first came out. Different and new but not a very polished and mature product. I’ll continue on with my pro max trend this year. I will definitely be interested in the next gen IPhone Air.

My Cloud White Air arrives today. My only hesitation was the camera, so I went through and looked at the metadata of the last year’s worth of photos on my phone. 95+% were on the main camera, with just a small number on the wide angle and telephoto. Of those, none were really keepers; the wide angle shots are almost all too distorted, and the telephoto doesn’t have enough reach optically for how I use it, so those were mostly digitally zoomed (terrible). We’ll see, but in my case I believe I’ll be fine with the single camera. I’m choosing to think of it as a prime lens on my DSLR—embrace the constraints, zoom with your feet, etc.
Your previous phones
Agreed. I cannot believe people are overthinking this and talking themselves out of the iPhone Air for this heavy, ugly brick.
?? Many of us buy iPhones for their operation, not for their looks. I agree the new metal is cheap looking, but it is not noticeably heavier than my 16 PM is and the new tele camera is superb. Superb enough to tolerate the cheap-looking aluminum alloy.

I think it's too early to declare something like that. Every year we think Apple is going to fix some perceived shortcomings of the phone, but then the problem isn't actually solved or a new one pops up. Like 15 Pro/Pro Max would heat up a lot. Then 16 Pro/Pro Max was supposed to solve that but apparently not because Apple ditched titanium and added a vapor chamber. Now some are claiming these 17 Pro phones scratch really easily.
People claim all kinds of performance things, but every year I find better performance from each new iPhone Pro. Always. The whines are just whines, zillions of clickbaiters. This year's cheap looks are not a performance thing, they are simply this year's cheap looks.

I got my blue Pro Max 512 yesterday. On went a screen protector and a Mous black leather case as is the case with all my new iPhones. I'm not hung up on materials. It looked primo to me before I covered it up.

I love the Blue. It's dark and understated, almost like black, but with more character.

Very happy with the 17PM. Coming from a 15PM. I only upgrade every two years, so see y'all in two years for the 19PM.

I’m sure there are plenty of users, especially the majority of people who are just going to stick the phone in a case so you can’t see it, that don’t really care about how the back of the phone looks.

Has anybody had any problems adding credit cards to the Wallet app on the iPhone 17 Pro Max? I have been on the phone with Tech support and after speaking to a senior tech advisor in the Apple Pay and Wallet department, they have had a lot of calls with that problem and it has been escalated to the technician with high priority.

Agree with you. However, in my case, I was all over the map with the color. I went with the orange first, then decided that overtime it would get real old. So I went with the blue. Then I heard all these Youtubers talk about the material being scratched easily so I went back with the orange again. And then I said what the heck and realized I was gonna put a case on it anyway so I went back to the blue. Now I think I’m happy.👍

I got the orange PM.
it’s ugly and looks super cheap, but the battery is epic. I’m restricting battery to 85% and not using wired CarPlay (that’s proven to nuke batteries and cook phones).
Cameras are good; 8x will be handy; landscape selfie is being overhyped; weight feels similar to 15 PM.

I’m sorry but the aluminum on the iPhone 17 Pro feels and looks so cheap relative to every pro iPhone that came before it. I really dislike it. It’s bad enough knowing in the back of my head that it’s made of a cheaper and less premium material but they couldn’t find a way to polish it or give it a nicer finish??

Also, what’s the deal with Apple Devices completely lacking a progress indicator bar or time estimate like iTunes used to? I had no idea how long the restore was going to take, and still have no idea how long it actually took. I just left and came back home after a few hours.

Performance is better, sure, but we correctly called out in 2022 that the titanium used in the 15 Pro and Pro Max would have worse thermal conductivity than the previous steel and aluminum versions.

Then Apple made a whole slide about it this year.

I think people are approaching this from the wrong angle, what's really happening is the Pro iPhone is going the direction of iPad Pro and MacBook Pro in terms of materials and construction, because the aluminum unibody is good for dispelling heat. When you have a bunch of disparate components glued together, it's not the same effect. Glass is famously poor at heat conductivity, too, so that's also why the previous back glass size was reduced.

The last time they did a "shiny anodized" finish on an iPhone was the iPhone 7 Jet Black and we saw many, many complaints about how easily those scratched. They did bring the finish color back to Apple Watch 10, but I still see some durability complaints about that one (though personally I think the finish is much improved on the watch).

When I did an iPhone-to-iPhone transfer, I did get an estimate in minutes for how long the transfer was supposed to take.

From a power user perspective this phone is great. It’s very tough but fugly and scratches easily. Put on a case and problem solved.
What kind of case are you using? The one I got (and a lot of them I've seen on Amazon) don't cover the Plateau at all and leave the whole area exposed.
