The orange looks okay, but was hoping it would be closer to "Yquem" aka "Mansour Orange on the special McLaren cars built for Mansour Ojjeh:

If they had one in a colour, I'd have it right away.
That would’ve been an amazing iPhone colour. I reckon a more copperish/reddish and some metallic tone would make it less in your face.

Love it @Boardiesboi! The orange looks awesome. I went with the Deep Blue 17 Pro Max, because I loved the blue 15 Pro Max and wished I'd gone with it over my natural titanium. Of the photos and videos I've seen of the Deep Blue, looks to be a deep rich color as well. Tomorrow can't come soon enough! Congrats again. Always look forward to your posts mate!

As a side, my wife got the silver 17 Pro Max, and after seeing your pics, it does look cheaper. I think this is intentional. I think Apple is prepping us for the iPhone fold, which will be a foldable Air for that ultra premium look and feel. I agree with others above, Apple missed the mark and should have offered at least black and even a gold option like the gold aluminum iPhones of old.

I turned up to Apple Broadway in Sydney at 7.30am this morning and picked up my iPhone 17 Pro Max in Cosmic Orange and my partner’s one in Silver. I was first in line and they cheered and clapped as the doors opened LOL

There wasn’t much of queue and I was in and out of the store in 15 mins, including paying for a Belkin UltraGlass protector to be installed on the silver 17 PM.

First impressions:
  • The Cosmic Orange pops and is very vibrant. I absolutely LOVE this colour but orange/copper/red is my favourite colour anyway.
  • The phone doesn’t feel heavier than the 16 PM but it definitely feels thicker.
  • Bezels are the same as the 16 PM
  • Aluminium unibody is well made but I feel it’s a downgrade from stainless steel and titanium. Looking at the silver and orange, the silver feels noticeable “cheaper”.
I reckon for this year if you want battery life and performance, go for the Pro Max; If you want the most premium and elegant iPhone, go for the Air.

Pics below with the Cosmic Orange and Silver taken in both indoor lighting and in the sun.

Cases include Apple silicone in Terra Cotta, Apple TechWoven in purple and ESR clear case. I actually like the ESR clear case the most and I think Apple should’ve used the same MagSafe ring arrangement than the full white blockout.

There’s a day 1 iOS 26 update as well. Setting the phone up now and will post more thoughts later.

Happy to take questions!

That clear case is fire! Love the orange. The silver not so much.

These phones are obviously very good, and orange will be popular, but not sure I like the design, straight up. I actually think the blue may be the best version, but I need to see more pics. Right now I’m just gonna stick with the 16PM

Thanks for posting the silver. I'm still not a fan of the way it looks. It looks very cheap.... I wish they would've had a black version. I feel like Apple really botched this launch with the colors. I am half tempted to just cancel and wait for the 18 series.

Edit: Just canceled the order. I'll see what the 18 brings. I can't bring myself to pay $2k for an ugly phone.
For me its the unibody design that has me sitting on the fence. The phone does not have to be a unibody design to take advantage of the vapor chamber. If they kept the squared off edges like the previous models then sure its a done deal. I know it's gonna be in a case but if I'm gonna spend $2K for a phone....

Thank you!

Aluminium/num is the only thing I am put off by. I get that it may dissipate heat better and achieving complex unibody structures is likely easier with the soft metal, but it is definitely a downgrade in my opinion - even visually.

I don’t quite experience my iPhone 15 Pro Max heating up all that much.

What are you all thinking about this material choice?

This is why I have to go and see them all for myself. I'll probably decide they're all too expensive and heavy, and end up with the base model in green or something 😁

Or just keep the phone you already have and save a lot of money. I am keeping my 15 Pro for as long as it lasts and will upgrade then.

Thanks for posting as always!

I have an orange for pick-up tomorrow, but starting to second guess if I should’ve gone blue. I decided orange right before pre-orders based on the fact that the blue iPhone 15 Pro Max looked more gray/black in indoor lighting conditions and was worried the 17 Pro Max might be the same. But…I just don’t know if I love the orange.
That's why I ordered both. I'll check them out tomorrow in store for my pick up and then go with the one I live better. I really like the blue but the orange is gaining on me too.

Doesn’t really bother me personally as I’ll be using a case and won’t see it anyway. More visible on clear cases but not a dealbreaker for me.

yeah as much as i don’t like the two tone of the silver iphone 17 pro (why is it white? why couldn’t apple make it silver like the body?), it’s still the color that makes the most sense for me

1. i don’t use a case on my phone, so silver will show the least amount of scratches/damage.

2. don’t like the orange aluminum showing on the edges when viewing from the front. kinda looks cheap with the black OLED screen/bezels imo

3. for the first time ever, the colors are super divisive when looking online or on videos. Since i often sell my phone after a year (to get the new one), i think id rather go with the neutral silver option. this point is the one that has the smallest weight for me since i live in a huge city with tons of potential buyers, but still worth thinking about

Yeah, I am expecting to not be a huge fan, and I don't use a case usually. Material choice is obvious for profit margins, which Apple already dominates this industry.
