Kind of random but ever since I’ve gotten it my silver 17 Pro Max has resprings every now and then where the screen will go black and you’ll see a small spinning wheel before going back to the lock screen a second or two later. They’re rare but random with no set pattern of when I use a XYZ app then it happens.

This issue didn’t happen when I had a different colored 17 Pro Max (which was returned). I’ve tried wiping my device back to factory settings and starting over but it’s still happened. Wondering if it’s a hardware issue with my particular device or if anyone else with the 17 Pro Max has had this issue? 🤔

P.S. they would have once every day or two and I started keeping a note for when they happen so I can reference it to Apple if needed, but the last 3 times it happened was on 12/12, then 12/13, then 12/15 but hasn’t happened since. I’m sure it will come up again at some point and I’ll continue to document it in the note.

In case anyone doesn’t know what a respring looks like, here’s a video that shows it at the 18 second mark:

Would be interesting to see a log from Settings > Privacy > Analytics > Analytics Data. Find logs that correspond to when it happened, they should contain the name of the app that crashed, Springboard in this case.

Thank you for your reply. That helps a lot 🙂

I reset my phone back to factory settings on 11-20 in an effort to try and fix the issue, so all the previous resprings won’t show, but since then I can see the following “SpringBoard” entries:

I tried looking through each one to see if I spotted an offending app, but all I see is an ocean of computer code and can’t tell 😕

Do you know if resprings are simply software? Or could they actually be a hardware issue?

Yes, I'm experiencing the same issue. It happens every few days seemingly at random. It only happens when an app is open; never when it's just idling on a home screen. I also have a silver 17 Pro Max. 512GB. This is not something I recall ever happening on any of my previous iPhones. I've had apps crash in the past, of course, but never like this with the screen going black followed by the spinning icon and going to the lock screen. I hope this is something they can fix in a future software update.

You're free to post it here, if you'd like.

Right now all you've shown us is the equivalent of the engine light on your car. Not much I can do with a list of filenames.

I have the exact same model and have had a respring once or twice each month since I got it but part of that I put to me running Betas, however last week I had a respring on iOS 26.2 official release.

I am also noticing the Random Respring, since I updated to iOS 26.2 RC2. Continued to occur even with final release of iOS 26.2.

So, far I did soft and hard reset and finally did DFU restore with iOS 26.2 but the issue persists.

I have 17 PM 512 GB Cosmic Orange.

I never even saw the term "respring" before, but I have had repeated brief [irritating] black screen issues on my silver 17 PM running iOS 26.1. I will start paying closer attention.

I bought my 17 PM 256G last week and have seen a respring twice. After the first one, I tried restoring once and setup it up as new, for context I had restored off a backup from my iPhone 13, so I thought it would be related to that. But it seems that’s not the problem here. Other than that the phone is smooth and is giving north of 12 hours SoT. This respring only happens when I open an app, this time it happened when I opened the settings app, I don’t remember what I opened the first time for the system to trigger a respring.

LOL yes. I'm not sure what's happening but my music doesn't stop playing when it happens. iOS doesn't prompt to enter my password for FaceID, which is what happens after a restart.

I have an iPhone 17PM that resprings when opening any native Apple app. I’m on iOS 26.2. At first it was maybe twice a week but now occurring maybe twice a day. I haven’t messed with wiping and starting fresh since it doesn’t seem to help those that have.

Had a respring today, the app X was tending to slowdown and get jittery, other apps were working fine mostly, but X itself was a little “off” then suddenly the phone did a respring while I was in the Photos app.

Something is very off on iOS 26, I get the feeling there is something wrong possibly with the caching or some other part of memory management.

I experience a respring every few days, one just a few moments ago. Have an iPhone 17 pm in orange. I haven’t tried restoring the phone.

I have started getting them every few days as well. I am on 26.2 and it didn't start happening until 26.2. It will be random on what App it happens on.

My iPhone 17PM does the same from 26.1 and still with 26.2. From 26.1 till today it happened like 9 or 10 times total random. The issue: I open a casual app, a black screen with a spinning circle appears for 2 seconds and then: lock screen. It’s total random, maybe one day and the day after and then no resprings for 20 days. I know of a guy on Reddit that changed 3 phones (17Pm) and even without taking the backup he has the issue even on the 3rd phone. IMHO ot’s something related to an app / a widget / a particular setting we have that triggers the respring. I read many people had this issue when ios18 came out. I hope 26.3 or 26.4 will solve the issue. Not a big problem, but it’s quite annoying.

To be honest, im totally frustrated with this device
i've paid a lot, did an effort to buy it, and im having this issue
an issue that i didn't had in my old iPhone 5c or 6S

i refuse to "search" for a fix, that's not my work...

and i don't believe in a fix from Apple, they simply doesn't care about it
