This may get me to actually update from my iPhone 14 Pro. The last two phones just did not do enough for me to want to upgrade, and well I am holding onto the last bit of lightning I can because I just have so many lightning cables.

Glad we can witness Apple’s next fudge up evolve in slow motion. Another lame attempt to empty their customers pockets. Apple has been mocking their customer base with incremental improvements and the same boring brick design for years. And now this.

Finally Apple has created a segment of phones for iphone enthusiasts who are willing to spend for the premium experience.

Just like an ipad where the price range from $300 to $3000 (or a Mac from $500 to $5000). Now, we can buy an iPhone anywhere from $600 to $6000. I think the maxed out spec for an iPhone ultra should cost around that much.

What is the point in having a loyal user base if you cannot give them value for whatever purchasing power the base might have.

Still there is work to do - Apple needs have similar pricing spread for accessories like watch, headphones, speakers, etc.

Like the SE to E
Pro Max to Ultra = higher price tag.

Not surprising with the economic climate and whatnot, but they can also say they didn’t raise prices - just introduced a new model.

Will they match Samsung’s Ultra and include a mini Apple Pencil? Extraordinarily unlikely, but would be interesting.

Although the iPhone lineup continues to really fracture and segment. We went from one model, to two models to now potentially 5 different models over the years?

iPhone 16/17e
iPhone 17
iPhone 17 Air
iPhone 17 Pro
iPhone 17 Ultra

I get it because this is how their Mac’s and iPads are, but man, that’s a lot of SKU’s.

So this is basically a Pro Max phone, nothing new again, but by calling it Ultra they can push up the price. #timapple

So Ultra would mean more Pro than Pro.
Just like Ultra means more than Max(imum). Nothing can be more than the maximum! Haha. Apple is like let “change” the back of it and add an Ultra label to it and tell everyone this is the biggest change we’ve ever made for the iPhone.

You’re over there complaining about rumored iPhone names.

I’m over here thinking about the 18” MacBook Ultra…
I want the MacBook Ultra Air Plus - a crazy processor for a laptop with no fan and a screen that makes it impossible to use on an airplane. :p

My guess is that the "Ultra" will have a more robust aluminum enclosure and that Apple will really promote that while charging at least $200 more than the Pro Max. The Ultra will be the heaviest iPhone ever, while the Air will be the lightest. There by creating two diametrically opposed ends of the spectrum.

I'm a bit divided on the 17 lineup...

On one hand I quite like when the "size doesn't matter" and you get identical features across the pro and non-pro lineups.

On the other hand, it looks like all 4 models will be quite well differentiated...
  • 17 - cheapest regular sized phone with the latest features
  • 17 Air - bigger phone but MUCH lighter/more useable than previous large phones
  • 17 Pro - Pro features at a regular size
  • 17 Ultra - Large Pro phone focusing on long battery and sustained performance for gaming
Personally I'm excited to pickup the 17 Air after skipping the 16 series. Love the big screen but miss having a lightweight phone. I'm one of the people that will gladly pay more and sacrifice some battery life for a thinner/lighter phone.

Keep your 14 Pro at least until the 18th series. I still don’t see anything with the 17ths that tempts me to update.

Just make a pro and a pro max ! Sell them cheaper when the next models are out….. all ways make the best and keep costs down

This looks like a way of introducing a higher priced iPhone without putting up the price of the Pro model.
