This looks like a way of introducing a higher priced iPhone without putting up the price of the Pro model.
Isn’t there some I AM SO SMRT MBA metric like average sale price that gets middle managers and accountants positively moist with pleasure? Dragging that average sale price up by selling idiot phones to idiots with money sounds like a grand old time at the Apple Mothership.

Bring me AI Steve Jobs as A-CEO. Steve-o didn’t mind a high price, but he also wanting things to be cool and new and not just agglomerative spec listings.

At some point, the line up will be

iPhone 17e
iPhone 17
iPhone 17 Air
iPhone 17 Pro
iPhone 17 Ultra

Apple should just simplify them to

iPhone 17a
iPhone 17e
iPhone 17i
iPhone 17o
iPhone 17u

iPhone 17sometimes y

The whole 17 series look like a pile..well, yuck..Without getting on my high-horse, I don't plan to unnecessarily upgrade any of my tech during the current administration, but would skip this line regardless.

SKU-fest extraordinaire and all basically just rejiggered versions of "huge phablet"

Can we get Tim Cook out of here please?

This whole shtick is totally played out

The names make sense if you compare to the Mac lineup. Air, then Pro, then Ultra.

I got no problem with turning the larger phones into the ultra line....it makes sense. In fact the whole iphone/ipad line should get a name refresh.

Your basic model should simply be called the Iphone/Ipad (this would change with the next "Budget") iphone.
You should then incoporate the Ipad Mini into a foldable phone and make that the top tier phone...
Then you have your midrange models....the Iphone/Ipad Air models
Then you have your Pro models which are the current top of the line versions
then you have your next top of the line..the premium stuff...the Ultras.....

Makes sense to me.

Right now the whole line is a mess...you got basically 3 flavors of Iphones and Ipads with multiple sizes with conflicting names.

How can you have an Ipad "Air" thats thicker then a pro model? makes no sense

My guess is that the "Ultra" will have a more robust aluminum enclosure and that Apple will really promote that while charging at least $200 more than the Pro Max. The Ultra will be the heaviest iPhone ever, while the Air will be the lightest. There by creating two diametrically opposed ends of the spectrum.
Lmao. The sad part is, this will likely be spot on.

I’m struggling to come up with a meaningful way for Apple to differentiate a Pro from an Ultra unless they go with an M5 processor and 4TB of storage. Even still, what would you do with all of that capability. I doubt a vapor cooling chamber would be enough of an enticement for most.

That actually makes some sense.

Though the Air won’t be the lightest, that was the iPhone 5 at 112 grams. The Air likely won’t be below 150 grams.

The only thing I see in all of the latest rumors is large price increases coming. iPhone e will again look like the budget phone for all those who criticized its price IMO. I can most certainly be way off here as well but just my initial thoughts.

I think I get it now. This is based on the Apple Watch Ultra and will feature durability upgrades as well. That camera hump looks like an ultra face with metallic bezels around the rear glass. Surprised its not titanium

If it truly is taking the moniker of Ultra like the watch, it should be rugged. It should def have a larger battery, but more importantly it should be able to be used without a case and be able to take falls without damage.

It would be very cool if it supported the Apple Pencil.
The screens on the Max/Ultra are plenty large enough. Fields Notes-sized. It could work. And if it did, and I were Aaron Drapplin, I'd consider a kickass note-taking, sketching Field Notes-branded app for such a scenario.

Not that it's the same, but my iPad mini 6 + Pencil 2 combo has been an absolute workflow game-changer, for me.

Using the Pro and Ultra names for their products and their chips is going to get very confusing if they’re not careful.

If they replace the Pro Max with Ultra what is the folding iPhone going to be called? The iPhone Ultra Max?

If they release a Pro Ultra iPhone, it needs to have a screen size of at least 8 inches

Any smaller and it’s not pro. They should also include a 1000 Hz screen refresh and release an Apple Pencil Ultra for it (that’s not compatible with any other device to prevent eating into other sales).

😜
