The AI gig will require ever more "memory" to operate on any device. We got 8GB this year because of AI and the marketing claim this is the first AI compatible iPhone and everyone should upgrade. But wait..... all the other Apple products were upgraded to 16GB of memory for AI.

Folks, I see the 17 series getting 12GB memory upgrade which will be barely adequate and Apple knows this but the 18 series will have the necessary 16GB. This way they hope to sell an extra generation with inadequate specs so great cash flow.

The reality seems to be that Apple and AI are having severe teething problems. It will take at least two more years for a truly operational Apple AI. The peanut gallery has to hope that the 16GB minimum memory in the other iDevices is "enough" or will we find that 32GB is the new enough and obsoletes millions of Apple's computers.

I would be really upset if I had acquired a new Apple Mac with 8GB just to find. out it was obsolete for AI coming out of the box and Apple new that to be the case but they wanted to deplete their known to be obsolete inventory at list prices.

YMMV

Can't wait for the Verge review:

Apple goes thin: "Stop focusing on thinness; we want battery life!"

Ever feel like your iPhone is warming your ear? Maybe the bigger battery will generate enough heat to warm your whole head, and you can save money not having to buy a hat! But if it starts to feel too warm, end that call and put that phone down!

The whole reason we wanted the full horizontal camera bump thing on the back (like pixel) is to make the lenses flush with the back, so it sits nice on a table. The lenses are still bulging out! 100% nonsense.

That would trigger a massive lawsuit(s) for false advertising!

Exactly what I was hoping for. If the air can make things thinner, then the Pro should move in the opposite direction and make things thicker. For many people the regular iPhone will be the Goldilocks device.

Features I am hoping for in the 17 pro max:

• Largest capacity battery ever in an iPhone
• significantly faster high wattage charging
• more advanced heat dissipation system, potentially involving liquid metal or a vapor chamber. Maybe even an active solution like a thermoelectric cooler
• Apple designed modem, c1 iterative or better
• 2TB onboard storage

I just know they’re not contracting Jony Ive because these designs are so ugly. You would think they’d put more effort into designing the rear of the phone since the front is all screen…

I’ve been watching “Alias” (2001-2006) and I had forgotten how stubby-short the candybar phones were back then!

They were quite thick, but overall kinda tiny.

This was also pre-Razr for a couple seasons (1-3)

So much variation in phone designs back then 🤔

I don't measure my ankles when buying pants, I measure my waist. Calling a phone slim while ignoring the bump on one end is disingenuous (Apple doing so, not you).

You measure your waist when buying pants, not how much your d**k sticks out.

I don’t hold my phone by the camera bump, so how thin it feels is based on the body and not the bump.

I keep my phone in my pocket, so yes, I care how thick it is at the camera bump..and being a fairly thin person, I don't wear Big Boy Buster Brown Husky pants, so my pockets aren't backpack sized.

It's easier to pick up from a table with the bump.

I always lay my phone face-down, so that part never bothered me.

Thicker isn't the end lf the world imo. The problem comes when they fill that added thickness with stuff making it even heavier and it's already too heavy.
That is likely in-part driving the move back to aluminum. I never understood why they went to titanium in the first place. Aluminum is lighter, cheaper, more thermally conductive. The only thing that the move to titanium seemed to be was be a marketing gimmick 🤷🏼‍♂️

Considering the entire internal frame of the 15 and 16 Pro (and Max) stayed as aluminum, and the titanium was never more than a very thin strip around the outside, I don't know that it will make much of a weight difference. Most estimates I've seen put the total weight of titanium, in the Pro model, at about 10g-12g. Aluminum is ~60% of the weight of titanium, so you looking at about 7g of weight savings.

I want a lighter phone, however they see fit. I never liked the weight of my 13 Pro, and I similarly dislike the weight of my 16 Pro.

Hear me out... keep it thicker, but add the high density Air battery so we have 2-day battery life. :D

My iPhone 16 Pro Max has had awful battery life. I hope this improves things in the future.

Bigger battery is welcome. But I’m skeptical of this rumor seeing as it is coming with the rumor of the iPhone 17 air being the same screen size as the Pro Max which contradicts other trusted sources.

But maybe they feel if they offer a light large screen option with the Air, then making the Pro Max heavier is ok? I’d take the weight if battery life was improved.

I am all for the MacBook Pro being thick. Put some real performance and cooling into that performance device.

But when it comes to a phone…that sits in my pocket… I’m not liking the thicker idea. These phones are already about the verge of how heavy I can handle comfortably….

Mine has honestly been excellent this time around. I always have at least 20% towards the end of the day (as a heavy user). The 15 Pro Max I had last year was terrible and the battery degraded to 87% within the first year.

And I only use wireless CarPlay as well, so no charging in the car.
