A-Inc is in love with notches on screens as is evident where it’s been added to other products that don’t need it.
It’s hard to believe they’d get rid of the notch and dynamic island on a future iPhone — even if it’s technically possible
It will still live as the dynamic island lmao. Just more place for dynamic stuff

I think the Dynamic Island has useful functionality, despite the silly name. A punch hole in some ways would be more distracting.

That said if they could fully mask the faceID sensor they could do this sort of floating notification area another way.
I like the Dynamic Island as well. Maybe it can 'emerge' when swiping away from certain apps like music, timer, etc.

I rather have a supersonic touch ID under the display like some androids do. Face ID still has issues when not facing it directly, like in bed, laying flat on a desk, etc.
And identical twins my friends sister can easily unlock her phone it’s funny works for one twin not the other.

If there is an iPhone 17 Air/Ultra next year, it makes sense to debut it on that and then bring it to the others after.
Correct. Camera TBD, they may wait on that for an ultra upgrade 2-3 years from now which will also give them more time to figure out how to incorporate the context switching afforded via the dynamic island.

Doubt. People claiming this rumor are just trying to get clicks and follows post launch before we all move on.

They haven't even addressed the notch in the MacBook line lol
M4 will be a fairly large performance upgrade with more base RAM, 2x+ TOPS vs. m3 and security mitigations. M5 will likely redesign and shrink or remove the notch to encourage upgrades, probably along with an upgraded display.

If the reduced sales of the 16 pro continues some of this timing may change because they need to show YoY growth. If they put ProMotion in the base 16 I think they could have won a lot of people over to that, we’ll see what they do next year.

Still using an iPhone 12 Pro and enjoying it quite a bit. Sure, the camera could be better at this point, but also, I'm mostly fine with it. If this phone can last another several years, it would be good. I have already replaced the battery once. I suppose by the time I am ready to upgrade, maybe the whole rumour about FaceID being underneath a screen will be true.

Imagine Apple adding a Dynamic Island by via software just to be petty hahaha
I mean, you're not wrong: the Dynamic Island is already implemented via software. Think about it: the actual hole in the screen doesn't change size... but they most certainly do resize the blacked out region as needed to accommodate different notification icons.

Personally, I expect that to continue with little or no change, even when Apple finally removes the camera hole entirely. The Island might be smaller and/or have more icons invading the black oval or something like that... but then it'll simply shrink down into the center and disappear, when it's not needed.

I find it hard to believe that this is something Apple couldn't do right now if they wanted to. It seems very much like something that Apple is trying to milk as long as possible to have something new to introduce every couple years.
Agreed, it's all a part of the roadmap to trickle in new things every year, otherwise it would be difficult to keep introducing "new" features.

If Apple finally gets rid of that gigantic ugly antiquated Dynamic Island, I’ll upgrade from my SE 2020. It makes their devices look so outmoded.

And ditch the notch on the laptops too. It’s stupid and lazy.

you know what? i will actually miss the dynamic island. i having been looking forward to an all display phone with no visible front cameras/sensors but since i have been using my 15 Pro Max i have enjoyed using the Dynamic Island.

Hopefully they keep it around (even if it is a bit smaller) with the 17 series and beyond until whenever they do finally achieve an all display phone.
