I can guarantee you that the vast majority of those who wanted black and got the dark blue instead won’t get the black 17 Pro/17 Pro Max if it materializes early next year. They will be disappointed in Apple for pulling such a stunt once again (March 2022 release of the 13 Pro in Alpine Green).
I clearly remember the Alpine Green 13 Pro. But I don't remember people complaining about the new color coming out? Did people feel cheated?

Very happy that there is an orange colored version. Planning to get the Pro Max in orange. Hopefully Apple will release atleast one bright color like the orange every year and this is not just a one off.

The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are available in just three color options, notably with no black option.

The new high-end models are available in Silver, Cosmic Orange, and Deep Blue. Orange is a new addition to the Pro lineup, while blue returns from the iPhone 15 Pro.

Natural, Desert, and Black have not been carried over, making this year's selection of color options the smallest since the iPhone XS, which was just available in Silver, Space Gray, and Gold. This also marks the first time Apple's high-end iPhones have not been available with a black or dark gray color option in any way.

Pre-orders start Friday, September 12, ahead of deliveries to customers and in-store availability beginning Friday, September 19.

iPhone X only had 2 colors, also no plus size. So the article is incorrect.

It is a strange decision as black is a professional and standard colour tone. The Sony Ericsson Walkman Orange is the biggest surprise to me and I have no doubt it will be popular for the novelty of it, but its not a colour I would go for. Far too bright. The silver colour looks the best out of the three IMO.

Including the camera bezel rings in the machined aluminium unit surprised me too. Those are the parts that often get knocked and I think aluminium will chip. Surely they could have kept these as titanium or stainless?

I think that dark steel blue looks very professional to me. It’s not flashy at all. It can easily replace the black.

Seriously, people complaining about the lack of black , just get the blue. I usually always go for black as well, and this time went for blue for the first time for my 15Pro. It looks stunning and I’m glad I did it. It looks both elegant and “professional “.
