My god that's ugly. I'd rather them reduce or remove the little square island entire than double down like this.

Or even better, make the all non "Air" 17's a bit thicker to the point where there is zero camera bump and I don't know fill it with something like a bigger battery?

We’ve heard comments like this before, iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPhone 6 and iPhone X.

This new design is coming and I’m all for it, it’s disgusting that they’ve used the same design for 6 years. Pure greed, arrogance and laziness, low sales and mocking have forced their hands thankfully.
The iPhone has a classic, recognisable design. Apple don't change it because it has become a signature part of their branding. The word is massively overused these days but the proper term would be iconic. Look at how most other brands out there copy the Apple aesthetic as closely as they can. Even companies like Google and Samsung who have talented designers themselves have watered down their own brand identities to look more like the iPhone.

A good analogy would be how the Porsche 911 hasn't really changed its aesthetics in 60 years. Or why nobody ever wonders why they don't redesign Aviators.

Why not just make the whole phone thicker? Before, the camera bump didn't take too much space on the back. Now, according to this, it will do. So just make the phone thicker so the cameras are flush, like they used to be, and use that extra thickness at the bottom of the camera for battery

Just as well Apple's leaning into services revenue, coz hardware revenue's gonna tank if they release that thing.

1. Wouldn’t it be funny if this allows them to push the lidar and other tech out to make room for a bigger battery? Cue all the ‘just make it thicker for more battery’ moaners greeting into their cornflakes. Rofl.

2. It looks like the lenses still protrude, so the possibility that this was designed to stop the ‘wobble’ on desk, looks not true. I guess unless the angles…. In which all the ‘my iphone wobbles when i put it on a desk’ can now be shushed from whining. But they’ll probably complain now that corners are too sharp or something.

3. Anyone else getting yo dawg we put a biggers bump on yo’ bump so you can have a bump while bumping, xzibit type vibes?

This is the problem with releasing a new iPhone every year. You quickly run out of design ideas to change it.

Maybe they should return to the old “s” strategy with design updates every 2 years and performance only updates in between.

Color me very skeptical, this just doesn’t make engineering sense. LiDAR? Any rumors before April are essentially useless anyway.

Even now with all the camera "bumps" I just think they need to make the phone thicker and put a bigger battery in it. I mean it's stupid having these protrusions everywhere.

Maybe that camera bar moves to one side and reveals another set of camera lenses. Remember, Apple is spending more money on camera research than Kodak. /S - I hope.

Not only am I sticking with my iPhone 16 Plus, I think I’ll stop updating with the switch to iOS 19. I wish I could have had iOS 17 on this phone.
Fully agree... Same with an iPad 9th and iPhone 16pro max. IOS18 is the worst experience with Apple I've ever had...
They're not cheap devices to have such errors and bugs. I starting to get fed up with this company... For now, they wont see a dollar more from my pocket until they change in favor of quality and client focused products.

It may seem like change for change's sake, but pragmatically - if lets them push components into the 'bar' and can fit more battery into the phone, it's a win!

You can't put all the cameras on a straight line at the top. When you shoot video for the Vision Pro you'll lose the depth.
