That camera area/bar doesn't look good to me, plus it still has the flat sides. Looks like I can pass over the 17's just like I did the 16's. Apple is definitely saving me money.

This, to me, at first glance is ugly. I’m sure if it comes to fruition, I’ll eventually warm up to it. However, I think it could make sense if Apple is about to take a splash with a flip/folding device.

It ends up being a visor for the candy bar design, but a flip would have two cameras crunched up in the corner a la Z Flip, with the remaining visor space as a potential external display.

I’m gonna keep it real with y’all… I’m buying whatever 17 Pro Max they put out 😂

but am also hoping it looks better than this

Do these people actually take a step back and look at these terrible renders before they post them? I doubt Apple would do something this ugly.

People said the same about the iPhone 5c (plastic and colors) and iPhone 6 (white bars crossing the back) and Apple still did it, they are not immune to ugly designs.

This is stupid. The lenses are the in one corner, the mic and flash in another corner. Either way you hold the phone you‘ll smear and cover any of it

It’s fake from a fake cad that leaked mark gurman called out Jon on X, of cause Apple wouldn’t do this makes zero sense, he just done it for clicks

Apple's next-generation iPhone 17 Pro will feature three rear cameras arranged in a familiar triangular layout, but the cameras will be housed in an all-new rectangular camera bar with rounded corners, according to YouTube channel Front Page Tech.

iPhone 17 Pro camera design render created by Asher for Front Page Tech

In a video uploaded today, Front Page Tech host Jon Prosser said the camera bar will be considerably larger than many earlier concepts circulating online have showed. The camera lenses are positioned on the left side of the bar, while an LED flash, a rear microphone, and the LiDAR Scanner are lined up vertically on the right side.

Prosser said the iPhone 17 Pro features a two-tone finish, with the camera bar appearing to be darker than the rest of the rear shell.

It is unclear if this alleged design change has any benefits, or if it is purely for aesthetics.

Prosser said his information is based on multiple sources familiar with the iPhone 17 Pro's design, and he said that he has seen the device himself.

The redesigned camera array would presumably extend to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but Prosser did not confirm that. The ultra-thin "iPhone 17 Air" is also rumored to feature a rear camera bar, but with only a single camera. It is not clear if the camera bar will extend to the lowest-end iPhone 17 model, but it seems likely for consistency.

Google's Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro also have a rear camera bar, but the lenses are arranged in a horizontal line rather than triangularly.

Prosser has been a well-known tech YouTuber for more than a decade. Like most sources, he has a mixed track record with Apple rumors, with some hits and some misses. In 2020, he was the first source to reveal the design of the AirTag, many months before it was announced. He also shared many accurate details about the iPad mini 6, months before that device was announced. On the other hand, he and others were wrong about the Apple Watch Series 7 having flat edges, although perhaps Apple tested such a design.

Prosser recently claimed that iOS 19 will introduce a redesigned Camera app with a visionOS-like design, including translucent menus and buttons.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 17 series in September, and additional design-related rumors will likely surface before then.

This idea doesn't make any sense. Placing the flash away from the lens will only cast a shadow on the background of the objects being photographed. The further the flash is from the lens, the more visible the shadow will be. It is impossible to make such a mistake.

Good God thats ugly.

For all the Trash Talk about Ive, he could sure design good looking devices. Even if the designs (frequently) pre-dated the currently available technology.

Theoretically.
In practice, we’re talking an inch - or two at most - of distance between lens and flash. On a smallish and relatively weak smartphone type of flash.

So relax - it’s gonna be ok.

The further the flash is from the lens, the more visible the shadow will be. It is impossible to make such a mistake.
You should really tell the people that make flashes for professional DSLR cameras.

Example: https://www.usa.canon.com/shop/p/speedlite-el-10

👉 Have you seen how much (even) further away that flash is from the lens!? And told them how wrong they’re doing it?

Just enough room for a mini screen? Could show time, weather, notifications. Might be a trial for the folding phone.

Those who wanted a thicker iPhone, you’re a third of the way there! Now just hope the thick bar keeps getting thicker until it reaches the bottom of the phone.

Aw come on! Really? Look I wanted an update this year. I don't want to wait another year, but this looks like !@#!.

Prosser doesn‘t seem to understand that this is the Apple leak department throwing out different „leaks“ to find out who actually leaks.

They could put the flash and LIDAR right alongside the lenses and use the right half of the bar as a small info screen...

It would make more sense than the current design, and be much more of an Apple thing to do.

This could allow:
- Longer 10x periscope prime (instead of 5x) or a periscope zoom lens
- Higher quality front camera
- Potentially under-screen front camera and faceid (without holes)

But even with these additions, it would leave some extra space in there below the periscope. What that could be used for?
