will hold off if it’s only 8GB ram this year - got burnt with my 14PM not supporting any AI features.

It can wait another year.
While I understand the hardware demands I am incensed that my 14 Pro won't do ANY of it (if I've read this right). I just got the new Copilot integrated into MS stuff at work. E-mail summarization of long threads alone is MAGIC to refresh my memory. My 14 Pro is short on memory, and so am I.

No, all iPhone 16 models get 8GB RAM
A18 pro will have 12 gb ram. This article is just a rumour , only if Apple hide the 4gb ram like they did with the base ipad pro m4. Its clear the SoC is having 12gb ram.. is for Apple to show iOS the whole package or disable 4 of them

According to literally every rumor, A18 Pro gets 8GB RAM. What rumour are you talking about?

I just googled how much RAM you should need to use AI: minimum 16GB for very small ones and minimum 32 GB for medium ones and large ones... yeah... double that or triple that.

Guess we'll have 64GB RAM on the iPhone by 2030 if AI keeps evolving like this. Private Cloud Compute will be needed for a very long time until we get 64 GB RAM.

May god save our wallets cause I don't want to pay 2.5K for a brand new iphone with 64GB RAM.
So take what you googled and compare it to my original post
Even 12 GB is ridiculous. Given the fact that RAM isn't that expensive, the iP17 should ship with 16GB and btw all Macs should finally ship with 16GB minimum.

Once again, RAM isn't that expensive and only Apple wants to charge you an insane amount of money for it.
And to repeat myself - an iP17 and all Macs should ship with at least 16GB of RAM, to be future proof and to allow "simple" AI tasks to be executed locally.
There is one thing with the cloud - you will have to subscribe to a service to use it constantly.

You are talking about rumours...im talking about SoC (that is already on the market for months) that by default is coming with 12 gb ram
Its about Apple to let OS to take full advantage of the 12 gb ram or disable 4 of them

Surprising it isn't happening with iPhone 16 already with the Apple Intelligence effort.

I was planning to buy 16Pro, now I need to wait another year 😂😁
Maybe Apple will fix battery issues in the iP16 (while I don't have any issues). But all the other stuff is just ramping up and I'm comvinced we all will see massive changes in the way iOS19 handles AI.

So iP17 it is.

So this years 16s are already obsolete 😷 new features coming next year which require 12gb ram minimum

I don't think ram will be an advertised differentiator. Apple has never talked about iPhone ram, and even having used iPhones once the 3g, I couldn't tell you how much ram any particular model has.
They might advertise the features they are gating to the higher RAM levels though.

Short-changed iPhone 16 Pro Max incoming ;(
If this only really values AI use onboard the 17s, should only really matter to those who want to use AI significantly

I was planning to skip the 16PM anyway

17 seems like it will be more of a substantial upgrade. Maybe finally with the hole punch design.

But what If iPhone 16 Pro has 10GB? ;) or more... can be surprise, just like last year and Apple Watch S9 "minor" hardware changes. At the end, S9 was big hardware jump. The slogan this year is hinting 100% to AI stuff. Can be both more RAM and slightly better NPU. I don't expect major changes in that department looking at the M4. A17 Pro was already on the same level, so I don't expect double performance uplift.
