Hm. Was considering to buy the non-Pro model this year. I think I will skip it if it comes with only 8 GB of RAM.

No matter how much RAM iPhone has, Lightroom will still work slow.
The key is optimization. Bad that they don't focus on iOS becoming faster and increasing apps performance and all we hear is "AI". It is very tiresome to hear about AI since it will always be server-based, doesn't matter how much RAM they put in it

All the new Macs come standard with 16 GB starting with the M4.

iPhones should have 16 GB too.
But iPhones sell in way(!) higher numbers and generate way more total revenue than Macs.

So postponing the jump from 8GB to 12GB is a great way to increase profits.

Cynicism aside, I'm pretty sure Apple will still be kind shaky with AI for at least another year. So going for a 16 Pro/Max now to get all the AI stuff doesn't seem like the best idea.

I'd definitely wait until the reviews are out. I'm betting that the best AI stuff will launch months post iPhones 16 event. Or at least go through a bunch of iterations that are kinda buggy.

Apple is still so new to the LAM type AI (their claims of always doing lots of AI is kinda misleading).

Yeah I'm hoping the mechanics of this will work out as follows:

1. Current base mac mini M2 is 8Gb/256Gb.
2. New base mac mini M4 will be 16Gb/512Gb.
3. Now I don't have to buy an M4 Pro mac mini.
4. Thanks to academic status I have student discount available so I can bag a 16/512 Mac Mini for around £539 which is better than spending £1218 on a Pro variant 🤣
As it's only about 50 cents extra for them to give us 512 instead of 256GB at this stage, they should do it, but I fear they'll continue to screw us on that.

If the 16 Pro comes with the same Ram as the 16 and 15 Pro I am going to be quite annoyed with Apple.
iPhones Pro only just jumped from 6GB to 8GB RAM with 15 Pro. And Apple hasn't bumped the RAM up for any iPhone two years in a row.

So, all signs are pointing to 16 Pro/Max also being 8GB RAM.

Apple's 8GB of RAM is equivalent to 32GB of everyone.

You mean they hide the lack of ram well in iOS.

Try telling that to any desktop user that runs something beyond netflix and facebook. See if they turn red or not. I recommend doing that from a safe distance though.

You may be right on those specs.

But prices remaining the same while specs get bumped is not going to happen.

-Consider how Apple "gifted" us with 256GB in the base configuration of 15 Pro Max. "Coincidentally", that resulted in the cheapest Pro Max being $1199 and the 128GB $1099 option no longer being available.

The same will happen to any Mac models that lose the 8/256 configurations for higher ones:

If Apple makes either 16/256 or 16/512 the base configuration for Macs mini then they will go for $799 or $999, and the $599 8/256 will get cut entirely.

That’s like going to a restaurant and before you order, you are drooling over the next time you come to this restaurant to order… lmfaoooo 🤦‍♂️ 😂 😭

Fair sick of these leakers. I used to love the events and the surprise of what was coming. Granted I could not read the articles. But that would mean avoiding tech sites. And why no 12GB of ram this year? The iPhone 16 has not come out yet.
Why are you stressing about this? Apple isn’t going to announce the amount of RAM in the event. This is for the super nerds to figure it out after the phone gets released and they take it apart or do some sort of testing. The event will still be fun and just try to ignore some of the other leaks.

It really doesn’t matter how much RAM the phone has because if you want an iPhone, you get that spec. It could have 6 GB or 64 GB. No one is going to say oh you know what I’m going to buy an iPhone because it has 3000 GB of RAM. You’re either buying an iPhone or you’re buying an android phone or you’re keeping your existing phone.

I'm on a 13PM and was planning on waiting for the 17PM anyway. Reasons being:
1. The 13PM is absolutely fine. Great, in fact. And I like the Sierra Blue.
2. 17PM to have 3x 48MP cameras. Sounds good. 24MP front facing, too, apparently.
3. This RAM business. Good for future proofing.
4. Apple Intelligence not being fully completed/implemented until at least this time next year anyway. Might as well have my first taste of it when it's actually working.
5. Better chip, presumably. Or one better suited to AI.
6. I like to notice a difference between upgrades.
7. Therefore maybe a design tweak or two to differentiate further between my 13PM.
8. Battery? Or at least a way of dealing with the drain AI will put on the 15PM and 16PM.
9. I like my phone network to beg me to get the 16PM and just totally ignore them.
10. Apple modem. Oh wait a minute....

Now I’m really keeping my 15 pro max and not upgrading.
I don't care how anyone spends their money...heck, I buy at least 4 smartphones (typically foldables) a year just to make sure I always get the one I like, but I don't understand why anyone would upgrade an iPhone every year anymore. Same iPhone, different year, with very slightly upgraded specs.

The amount of RAM in an iPhone is such a silly thing to get frothed up about.

I've had different iPhones going on around 13-14 years. And have *never* suffered in any way or manner with whatever amount of RAM was in my iPhone. Never. They just work. Always.

Camera and related improvements are what interest me (being a photographer).

I think we are at the start of AI device technology so over the next few years the improvements in hardware are going to be so fast that it will be like the early days of the iPhone where every model introduced massive improvements over the previous version. Trying to time the correct year to buy is going to be almost impossible as NPU/GPU/RAM improvements year to year will be huge.

I'm definitely sitting out the 16 at Launch until we get a clearer idea of how the current AI features perform as Apple Intelligence is fully rolled out.
