iPhone 18 Pro Could Be Noticeably Thicker Than iPhone 17 Pro

Pro users don't care about thickness and weight, they want the most capable iPhone with the best battery and camera, and that is fine as long as we have the iPhone Air in the lineup to please the rest (me included) of customers, although it is big and the plateau is very big... a 5.5'-5.8' Air without a plateau is probably the Perfect slab form factor.

Agreed. Weight and size don't bother me for a phone. I am not going to have to hit the gym over less than 10 grams in weight.

Crying as an iphone Air user. Dont want to wait until spring, the new air rumors arent going to fix my knly real complaint(camera). The Fold rumors have me worried, was thinking about going back to the pro, but i cant even hold my old 16 pro, with it feeling outdated and like a giant brick, compared to the Air.

I have the 17 pro max. I had to be very intentional with my case choice to not turn this phone into something I physically could not hold because of the increase in thickness compared to my old 13 pro max. I don’t need to be able to use this phone one handed but I do expect to be able to securely grip it with one hand.

I’ll reserve judgement for release but I don’t think I can do thicker. Thicker and more expensive. These iPhone rumors just keep moving in the wrong direction. At least the rumored colors look good.

I will make my call after a valid review and availability so I can actually hold one in my hand until then its just speculation and price sure it will be higher how much may also be a determining factor. But no matter what I decide they will sell just like when they went from a regular iPhone to a Pro years ago people were willing to pay the price increase.
 
I wasn't impressed with the battery life on my 17 Pro. To me, it was exactly the same as the 16 Pro. Perhaps with the combination of a larger battery and iOS27 we will actually see a difference.

Speak for yourself? I’m a pro max user. I absolutely do care about thickness and weight. Judging by the comments in this thread I’m not the only one.

The Air has a mid-sized screen, too small battery and not enough camera lenses. I’m happy for those who like it but it is not a replacement for pro users who don’t want a thicker phone.

A lot of people posting here complain about the weight of the iPhone. A change of a few grams seems trivial to me. I see people whinging about the weight of mobile devices running around nonetheless with massive water bottles weighing at least half a kilo, backpacks weigh up to 2 kilos, and clothing/coats weighing about the same. Heck, if you relieve your bladder or eat a meal, you are changing your weight by more than the weight of an iPhone (on average).

I'll take a little more weight in exchange for longer battery life and mechanical robustness of the frame any day. Just my two cents.

Quite the opposite. It has been 6 years now (11 Pro to 12 Pro) since Apple has made the Pro thinner than the previous Pro. Same for the non-Pro iPhone (11 to 12).

High-end phones are all about the camera (and battery along with it). Otherwise, get an "E" model. iPhone 17 Pro is among the best cameras on thin phones, and, most phones with similar quality cameras cost as much or more. Cameras need more front-to-back room. More-or-less, words like "physics" and "optics" come into play when you want better picture quality. IOW, if you don't care that much about image quality, sure, get the thinnest, lightest you can find. Just don't complain about the camera.

As above, I think a rounded back like the 3GS was an excellent approach to this tricky optimization problem. It was also easier for people with L/XL glove sizes to hold without dropping. The iPhone 4 was a big step down in handheld security. But, art triumphed over usability.

The 17PM from the 15PM was the biggest iPhone leap for me, particularly with single threaded performance.

Idc if it gets thicker or not, I needed/wanted the faster USB port and the better modem for work. Being able to install/test iOS apps that much faster is a huge win.

Phone feels much better than the 15 in hand. They got rid of the stupid Titanium glass sandwich for aluminum (a big win) and a vapor chamber (finally).

If you’re using your iPhone as a mobile router while simultaneously sending Xcode builds to it and collecting live analytics. It gets hot.
So thicker, aluminum and vapor chamber is a huge win.

Not everyone has the same use case. Some people get the PM because TikTok is better on the big screen!

But I think most people value a quality camera in their pocket to capture their memories with and that’s very reasonable reason to get the pro’s.
 
Apple just can’t design efficient chips that don’t get hot and aren’t so power hungry.

For example, every time I go to the yahoo finance website in safari, my phone feels like it has a thermo nuclear meltdown.

Why isn’t there a setting besides low power mode that actually lets you extend battery life. Low power mode doesn’t work.
