Huh?!??

It's NOT there, but then again it might be...?? WTF?!?

That's not what he's saying or atleast not what he is meaning to say.

He's saying that the current Betas does not have copy'n'paste and it thus is not very plausible that it will come in the final version. But he also reserves the right that Apple might change their minds in the last minute and implement this feature.

Anyone even really that excited about iPhone stuff anymore... it's all getting very old. However, when 2.0 drops... it might get me excited about using my iPod touch again... I've only been using it for Music lately.

For some of us, this will be the first chance we've had to buy the iPhone, let alone see it in person! I had to settle on a Touch last year because I had no idea when a 3G iPhone would finally hit the market here, and I can't wait to hand it off to my wife once I FINALLY get the iPhone on July 11th.

So, no - it's not getting old. At all. ;)

I thought you had to pony up $99 to get access to the 2.0 FW?

Ah yes.. but before you Apple would be willing to TAKE your $99 you had to be 'approved'... The last count... upwards of 25,000 developers have lined up to give Apple their stinkin $99 bucks so they can have access to the full suite of tools and firmwares needed to properly develop a stable and viable iPhone Application... AND be able to test it on REAL iPhone / Touch hardware... wanna know how many have been anointed with the honor?!?!

4,000 so that leaves the 21,000+ developers (some enormously prominent developers too) left out in the cold.

Sad but oh so expected...

There were 25K applications, but I'm sure not all--or even most--would quite qualify as "developers." Somehow, I don't think Apple would take Jimmy from Tallahassee over EA, Cisco, Ambrosia, et al. I dare say you would be hard pressed to name any "prominent" developers that were left out. Also, don't forget there's two tiers: Standard and Enterprise (at $299).

The SDK itself with the simulator was available to a virtually unlimited number of folks--me included (some 250,000 d/l'd?). The Dev program you mention was a substantial jump up from that, but Apple isn't preventing anyone that wanted to be able to write apps.

Remember, too, this was all a beta program. The full Dev program will expand soon enough, and even Jimmy will be able to pony up the $99 he wheedled out of Mom...

"Rogue Amoeba" & "TomTom"

Hard pressed? it took about two seconds to find and I'll bet if I bothered to really dig I'd find quite a number of others who are vocal enough to acknowledge that Apple has denied them access. Oh and one of the developers who work for Rogue Amoeba used his personal ADC membership to request access and in 24 hours he got approved. So it would seem being "Jimmy from Tallahassee" or some well known Apple Developer plays little matter in the process.

And my main point is .... if end users get access to the firmware prior to those of us who have (somewhat) patiently waited to be accepted... well I'm sorry but that just not the right way to treat your developer community.

Oh here is a great comment that details just how effed-up ADC is handling things with authorizing developer to have access to the firmware (and the AppStore when it goes live).

I have been an ADC member for a long period of time. I signed up as quick as I could. Months past no access to Iphone program. So on a lark I decided to sign up using a completely new account. Low and behold that virgin account with no ADC history was admitted and I already paid - with access now. Within a week maybe less.....

Its a total mess and anyone attempting to defend Apple on this should be ashamed of themselves...

Part of me sort of doubts that Apple will release the firmware before the iphone 2 ? I sort of think of people play with the new firmware their desire to upgrade will diminish ?

I have a couple of concerns reguarding things being said here. The main point is the FW being updated on the spot when you buy it. I can't see that being the case. Last upgrade was what .4? Anyone know how long it took their phone to upgrade? Well mine took at about half a hour on a dam good Internet connection. So let's think about the numbers of people buying the iPhone on July 11th. This update won't be a small one either .4 was pretty small. 2.0 won't be small I gurantee it. Every time I check for the update I make sure I have an hour window because that's how long I think it will take. Now think of this at the stores.

Also I do believe 2.0 is hitting iPhones starting either Friday or Tuesday.

My final words here are going to be confusing I think. I believe that 2.0 is done and has been GM. Maybe the appstore isn't but I think 2.0 is. If I am wrong either Stevie has something up his sleeves or you best start selling Apple because they are headed for a PR nightmare

Here's hoping it all goes good.

Oh and I better get my Super Monkey Ball before Johnny Noname who bought on the eleventh as opposed to me who is closing to blowing out my own one year candle.

Grrrrrr. I want my VPN and my Exchange (and Copy/Paste fingers crossed)

Dangs it. I hate vagueness, "some time in June", or "early July". I have a feeling that Tuesday is our lucky day. Its like Christmas where Santa keeps flaking. Which kind of makes you hate Santa but you still want your gifts. So you hope someone will replace Santa. RIM needs to step it up so apple fears doing this to us. They keep breaking my heart!

P.S. I want Bluetooth GPS support on my 1st gen Iphone!!! or one built for the bottom connector like i have seen hacked on the internet.

I didn't buy the apps when they were released in January, does anyone know if mail et al will be included with the 9.99 upgrade for my iPod Touch?

If the iPhone 2 software is not finished yet then what are they loading onto the new iPhone that are currently in production?

The manufacturing ramp up of the new iPhone must have been happening for many weeks and these new iPhone must be installed with some software, so what version are they installing?

Surely they must be installing v2 of the software to the phone they are making right now, if not what is installed. Therefore the v2 software must already be finished!

That's a darn good point. :]

Does the iPhone actually come with firmware on it? As far I can recall I had to download the firmware when I installed my iPod touch.

2.0 software for unlocked iphones

does anybody know if unlocked iphones will be able to get the new software 2.0 for free without any negative consequences. For instance making the iphone inoperable?

Hey! Check it out! This thread is actually TRUE now. The iPhone 2.0 Firmware WILL be available FRIDAY (the 11th that is). Hehe.
