Please please please Apple!!!

My two most important features to be implemented:

1. Exchange support (I hate having to use webmail, and it only works on my laptop, not my Touch).

2. Copy and Paste.

I can almost live without #2, but there are situations where I am left hanging high and dry without it. I simply cannot memorize certain things and re-type them in another app... addresses for Google Maps come to mind.

For the last time guys, Copy and Paste is NOT coming to 2.0! Trust me... I speak from experience, thats all I can say.

..Unless something changes between now and then..

Other than the 2.0 Firmware, iTunes, and the launch of MobileMe, there's no word of any of the other things you've itemized as being updated. Apple has bigger updates every time the Mac OS is revised (like 10.5.3, which was over 400MB for some).

Even if all of it were to be updated, it's still be manageable, as they've had similarly complex simultaneous updates in the past.

One only has to consider some of the desktop apps that currently synch to dotMac and how they will need to be changed to implement MobileMe Push!

Then there the apps like iMovie, iPhoto, iWeb, etc. that currently publish to dotMac--- they will need to publish to MobileMe using the newer SproutCore and SquirrelFish JavaScript improvements.

Updates to the new (and current) iPhone software/firmware, to interface these new programs and features, further complicate the logistics. Any missteps will be very public!

I didn't say that it was something Apple couldn't handle-- I was just proposing a method where the update activity could be distributed better.

We all can do better!

So basically, what you are saying is, copy paste will not appear in 2.0... unless it does.

Either way, man, you called it!

I wish this update would hurry. I can't wait to get rid of the crappy no-service blackberry that I have to carry with me along with my iPhone for work. This update is going to simplify things for me greatly.

I'm not expecting a Friday release but who knows! Either way, I'm excited for 2.0! I really hope Apple continues to actively develop the iPhone OS and come out with updates instead of just bug fixes like previous iPods. I would like to see the iPhone OS grow and evolve over time just like OS X. It will be like having a new iPhone every time the OS gets updated! Sweet!

There's always negatives.

If Apple came out with a Mac that was $1000, but had quad-SLI Geforce 9600 Ultra, Intel Core Quad 7.2 Ghz, 32 GB of RAM, and had a Mac OS version which could run Window games faster than Windows...

There'd still be negatives.

</snip>

Someone like multimedia would have rated it negative because (even though it was 10000x better then the mac pro he was waiting for) it isn't a mac pro, and he needs a mac pro, not a god-machine :p

Here is the list of Updates for the iPhone

1.0.1 Tuesday
1.0.2 Tuesday
1.1.1 Thursday
1.1.2 Monday
1.1.3 Tuesday
1.1.4 Tuesday

As you can see Apple like to release updates on Tuesday...:)

Haha.. I'm saying unless it appears between now and then; it isn't going to happen. I'm confident that it isn't going to happen though.

Here is a link to my Flickr with uploaded images of screenshots of my 3G iPhone. I currently have possession of one of the Testing units handed down by Apple nearly 3 days before WWDC 08. Check them out because I really wanted the general public to get a look at the new 3G iPhone.

Here is my Flickr link with uploaded screenshots.

IF SOMEONE AT MACRUMORS WOULD LIKE THESE SCREENSHOTS TO POST AS AN ARTICLE PLEASE EMAIL ME ( I HAVE SENT MESSAGES TO ARNOLD KIM)

Uh ... silly question but ... what is new in those screenshots you provided ? Posting screenshots of screens that are mostly blanked out, saying nothing has changed isn't very exciting.

I'm thinking iPhone 2.0 software will be out before July 11th. Couple of reasons why I think so...

Why wouldn't Apple specify a date like they have with the new iPhone?

Apple's website states "coming soon." if they know its going to be released for sure on the 11th then they would note that like the iPhone.

Also apple has recently updated the iPod and iPhone pages of their site.

Just my thoughts...

I think you'll see it before July 11th. Reason being, MobileMe wants users to make sure they have synced Bookmarks before June 30th. Since the "push" technology is now really the biggest feature across all systems for Apple, I think you'll see the firmware for the iPhone before the 11th so everything works seamlessly with MobileMe.

Plus with in-store activation for the 3G phone, the firmware will be on site at Apple and AT&T stores, so when you activate the update will take place on site. Therefore no need to pound the servers for the update like all the owners of the 1st Gen iPhone.

If not this Friday, bets are easily on the 30th or the 1st. I know I would much rather have the ability to sync across my Mac, Outlook at Work, in conjunction with my iPhone. Plus I would much rather have Exchange access on my iPhone for when I go offsite, instead of using Web Access over Mobile Safari. App Store will be nice, but it's not going to see a huge hit on it's first day. Sure people will check out what Apps are available, but I don't expect people to buy up every App just because it's now open. It will grow with time.

Agreed, except I think the AppStore is going to have a lot of downloads in the first few days. Think about it, everyone that has the new 3G iPhone is going to want to give it a spin. Think about how many people are gonna want to buy Super Monkey Ball, that game looks fun as hell. Lets not forget how many free apps will be up there.

Why would Apple release the 2.0 software before the iPhone 3G goes on sale? I mean, wouldn't that cut into sales? If people start using 2.0 software, they may just decide to stick with their original iPhones since they will suddenly have most of the cool features of the iPhone 3G.

Of course, I hope they release it early. That way, I'll be able to Jailbreak my iPhone 3G on launch day! ;)

Steve Jobs said 2.0 would be ready at the end of June and then this was changed to early July. iPhone 3G is not going on sale until 11th July,11th July is not really early July!

My guess is that 2.0 will be available on Tuesday 1st. At the same time we will get some small bits of new info re iPhone 3G.
