so thats it.. no extra feature.. i was hoping for SOMETHING to be in there.. like a small present.

You'd rather get copy & paste then stability and performance enhancements?

It is the iPHONE so focusing on fewer dropped calls, better signal strength, improved battery life seems logical to me.

I was always taught: Get it right, then make it fast, then add the nice-to-haves.

Looking very good here... speedier, no app crashes... will see how things go with installing apps. Backup is so much better/faster. I'm pleased and appreciate Apple's support. :D :apple: :D

SMS lag gone, everything feels faster, contacts load quicker, and speaker is like 2x louder for music! Great so far.

boo. and suggestion ;)

I dont know if this has been posted, but I noticed when I get a new text now it just says new text message. It no longer displays the name of the person sending it. Cool new feature if you dont want someone just looking at your phone and seeing who sent the text.

i know i don't like this! should have option to show or hide. this isn't good because now you have to open up your phone to see who it is...

i say... App called MyPhone that allows you to customize like the installer customizer but not so dumb as to change the battery to a dumb icon just general like color of text bubbles and actual desktop picture and dim icons to see it. also add more sounds because i think i'm tired of the text sound after hearing all of theme for about 10,000 times for each of them through out the last year! LOL

what's your take? ;)

seems to be working great. i am going to stat using installing apps on the phone now because it is supposedly much more stable. i like the new Edge logo instead of the big blue box. so far so good. genius is neat.

one change I would like to see:

does 2.1 allow you to accept or decline a call from the lockscreen?

in 2.0.2 if the phone is locked and a call comes in the only option is "slide to answer call". If you are using the phone (in app or on homescreen) then you get the accept or decline option.

Sluggish

This is my first post, so hi everybody.

I upgraded my 3G from 2.0.2 to 2.1, and the contacts lag and delay when installing apps are gone.

But in contrast to what most people are reporting, the overall experience on my phone has become much more sluggish. Scrolling through menus or the homescreens is bumpy as hell. The keystroke lag is much worse than before upgrading. I soft reset the phone twice to no avail. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I performed a regular upgrade. Might a restore/install solve this? Will I lose my text messages when restoring?

Thanks,
Ralph

Well, I dont know about everyone else but my phone is working a lot better after the update. Running quite smooth, backups arent taking forever, apps install fast, and I havent had any crashing yet! Ive been waiting for an update like this for a while. :D

you can double-tap the power button on the top of the phone to reject an incoming call.

Feels much better over all. The Settings app and SMS still seem to take a lot longer to load then they did on 1.1.4, but at least the keyboard lag is gone, that was terrible.

Just downloaded/installed iWik app in less than 10sec. This is by FAR the fastest an app has installed(usually measured in minutes!). iknow 2.1 is supposed to improve this but the time diff is sensational. Anyone else experienced MUCH quicker app installs?

To decline a call when locked double tap the sleep button on the top of the phone. This dates back to 1.1.4 I know. Not a button on screen you can select but isn't that what the lock buttons for? Preventing pressing unwanted buttons

This is amazing.

The battery with iPhone 2.1 is phenomenal. I beat Super Monkey Ball all the way through with no stopping starting with the unit unplugged and by the time I beat the game, the battery meter was still full. This is mind blowing!

Hugely FASTER 3G speeds from my home

I'm using testmyiphone.com for all comparisons.

I did four tests immediately before my 2.1 upgrade (The tests were done on 2.02). I then upgraded and did ten tests immediately after the upgrade from the exact location (in the same chair on my deck.)

BEFORE 2.1
Average bandwidth: 363 kbps

AFTER UPGRADE
Average bandwidth: 890 kbps

Thats 2.5 TIMES FASTER.

After the upgrade, I've gotten as high as 1.4 mbps. I never got above 500 kbps before the upgrade.

Contacts Status After Phone Call
I noticed, what may be considered, a small bug fix, but which is very important to me:

Prior to 2.1, when making a phone call from a contacts SEARCH (where you actually type the name you're looking for), then after ending the call, the phone app would return to contacts with NO CONTEXT preserved from that search. You'd have to retype the name to try another number from the same contact entry(such as home or mobile). Very, very annoying for me.

In 2.1 after doing the search and after ending the call, you are returned to the same contact info page you were on when initiating the call, so you can now instantly try another number for the same contact. Then you can ALSO go back to contacts from the info page, and your position in the contact list is based the persons last name (even if you searched for their first name. this is the right way to go, given that contacts list is always sorted by last name ). This is all exactly what I've been wanting very, very badly. EXCELLENT .

ICON POSITIONS
I notice my home page icon positions ARE preserved after updating. This thread has reports on both sides of this issue.

LAG TIME on CONTACTS
Significant improvement as compared to my freshly rebooted 2.02 phone. With a few thousand contacts, there is still room for more improvement, but I'm very happy for now.

BATTERY LIFE
I notice an improvement but haven't quantified it.

Settings/General/Date and Time ..problem.. Software Version 2.1

Is any body having this problem? If I tap: settings, General, Date and Time,,,, the screen goes back to the main icons. I did not have this problem before.

*** Never mind, I I went into... Settings/General/International/Region Format/United States, and problem solved! ***

i just discovered if you press the click button on the head set three quick times it will back up to the previous song (or repeat the current song playing).

my update went very smoothly - i bypassed the initial back up and after the upgrade was done did the back up - which took no time at all.
