You really must be a sad and miserable person...I feel really bad for you. So much venom over this. My, my...

There is a great aftermarket for iPhones. Just sell it and put yourself out of your misery.

Sheesh, I can't agree with you more. What is wrong with this guy? AT LEAST APPLE IS FIXING THINGS! I don't care if they never give us any more new features, as long as they make the phone work perfectly. Thank god they are quickly fixing things rather then making us wait, AND they are giving us the functions of the new ipod model for free, even if you have 1st gen iphone. 1st gen ipod users sure aren't getting 6th gen features for free. LOL

My update went smoothly.

So far, all looks good, texting is smoother as is the contact lag. Download speed 1.1mbps in Chelsea Manhattan NYC. ;)

Hopefully the Google Maps will work better. Today it took 3 minutes for the fricking phone to find my position and i wasn't under any trees, awnings, or next to any tall buildings. :(

So far, I'm hesitantly happy with this update so far. I'm crossing my fingers, knocking on wood, and rubbing my rabbit foot every chance I get, but so far so good.

(Note, please end every sentence with "so far")
1. Contacts definitely load up faster
2. The error I was previously getting after trying to update an Application seems to be gone.
3. It's snappier!
4. SMS keyboard now doesn't lag behind.

So far...

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Blegh...just bought songs on iTunes and doing a sync. Backup has taken 10 minutes so far, and I'd say it's about 1/10th done. So much for 2.1 fixing backup times.

Finally got home and updated. All Smooth!

I don't like the new E/3G icons, as they look weirdly misaligned with the rest of the text on the status bar up top. But if the keyboard lag is fixed, it's a trade off that's worth it.

Welcome!!!

Yeah, try a simple on/off first. If still slow, do a reset (10 second hold of Home and Sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo), if that doesn't work I would think about a doing a restore.

This is my first post, so hi everybody.

I upgraded my 3G from 2.0.2 to 2.1, and the contacts lag and delay when installing apps are gone.

But in contrast to what most people are reporting, the overall experience on my phone has become much more sluggish. Scrolling through menus or the homescreens is bumpy as hell. The keystroke lag is much worse than before upgrading. I soft reset the phone twice to no avail. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I performed a regular upgrade. Might a restore/install solve this? Will I lose my text messages when restoring?

Thanks,
Ralph

I have to ask a question about this (I personally have never had backup issues before), but is your iPhone USB cable hooked directly to your computer or is it hooked up to a USB hub?

I've heard that once you hook it up directly to your computer the backup speeds increases dramatically. Let me know if that works for you.

If not, I'm truly befuddled how people are having this issue (as Apple is as well). I have many apps on my iPhone, use it pretty heavily all day from notes to sms to adding contacts, etc. However, backups have never taken more than 5 min for me, and that's the longest time.

I feel for you though. Before the 2.1 update, I was constantly getting an error everytime I tried to "update an app." So far (and I stress *so far*), the 2.1 update seems to have fixed this.

I will love to comment on the great things it does for my iPhone. Currently waiting the 67minutes for it to download.....gah

Push Is Working Flawless

TESTS:

Yahoo web mail emailed to my Exchange ActiveSync Account - 10 seconds

Emailed my Yahoo address from my Blackberry (not iPhone) and it only took 15 seconds!!!! From BES to Exchange to Yahoo to iPhone. Not bad considering it had to go through all those wireless providers and points....

I'm STOKED!!!

HOLY CRAP!!

i thought that connectivity issues were just going to be fixed on the 3G - i assumed it was going to be a fix that worked with switch from edge to 3G which was where the calls were being dropped..

WELL, i have a 2G which i love. But i have ALWAYS had such crappy service at my house that i HAD to put a landline it. it was about 80% NOT connected, 10% on and off connection, and 10% connected solid enough to make a call.

right now, i have 5 FREAKIN BARS!!! i can not BELIEVE that the phone's software would make such a difference in reception. I always though teh ONLY fixes were phone hardware (antennas and such) and network equipment.

I'm insanely happy right now.. i almost forgot about the disappointment in the lack of video or MMS.

That's how it shoud be!

As an iPhone (1st Gen) owner I deserve a free update. Part of my monthly bill goes to the development and enhancement of the iPhone. This makes me proud owner I don't care if my iPhone has no modern look or 3G but still future proof when it come to functionality. I found no reason why would Apple will charge touch owners for an update this time just for the PLAYLIST. Note: I still love the feel of my iPhone than the 3G just my opinion.

I've noticed a DRAMATIC battery life increase. I usually turn off 3G during school because just having it on drains my battery from full to 1/4 by the end of the day.

I did the 2.1 update after school, and from 5:30 til now, I nly have a small sliver missing from my battery, with 3G and WiFi both on.

Good stuff.

All Worth It

Before the update my phone couldn't load any user-installed apps anymore, crashed frequently in standard apps, and featured all the other bugs we hear about. After a big 5 minutes of updating (including backup and install\restart) it works perfectly :D.

Date and Time

When I click Settings - Date and Time, it jumps back Home. Can anyone confirm this bug ? The only thing I changed was the keyboard from English to Czech...

Yes, that bug occurs for me also.

There goes my 2.1 bliss.

:apple: :(

Text Messaging now hides Name and phone number of Sender

SMS/Text Messages now only displays New Text Message with no name and no phone number attached when you have the passcode active with SMS preview switched to off.

However, when you have entered the passcode and are using anything on your phone; everything is displayed.

It's a good start but it could be better.

Netshare NOT working

I can't search all 1300 posts but the 10 pages didn't mention Netshare. I used it yesterday and now post 2.1 my phone will not find the network. Anyone else seeing this?

So far, that's the only negative thing I find. I can live with that!!!

Apps removed!

I updated to 2.1 this morning at work. Everything seemed fine. I don't know that I got any better 3G service since I have never had a problem at work and I don't have 3G at home so I will reserve judgement until I can try an are that I know has dropped calls. I did try running speed test and both 3G and EDGE speeds were about half what they usually are, but the have been known to vary wildly also so I will wait and see on that also.

I just tried syncing at home for the first time tonight. The initial backup which used to take 10 minutes or more was very fast, as was the syncing of contacts...but then it started REMOVING about 20 of the apps I had downloaded or purchsed from the AppStore. Since this was the first time I had synced since the updated I thought maybe it was going to remove and the re-install them...but NO...after it finished removing them it said syncing was completed...WTF!!! I have synced both at work and at home everyday since getting the iPhone and never had it remove any apps! The only apps that it did not remove were the 4 or 5 that were on the "Applications" tab in my iPhone information on iTunes.

I tried going to the AppStore from the iPhone and re-downloading one of the apps which it let me do telling me that I had already purchased it. After doing this I synced again to see what would happen...it removed the app again! I then went to the AppStore through iTunes and downloaded the same app again. This time it listed the app on the "Applications" tab and did not remove it when I synced again. So I thought "No problem" I will just download them all again through iTunes...only problem is it now wants me to re-purchase about a dozen of the apps that I had already purchased...and its not the 99 cent ones!!!

Has anyone else had this happen?...anyone have any ideas what to do?
