I did the update and everything seemed fine... just now I plugged it in... it went for about 20 minutes... then I got this message:

Any thoughts? Of course, I never unplugged it and I have tried twice so far with the same result

Yup its official...its snappier

Back up times were never a huge problem for me before but i never even noticed this time when connecting. It was really fast. The sms typing is smooth and responsive. NICE

I dont ahve the genius funtion in my ipod part of the iphone... is it because I have a 1st Gen iphone?

No it works with my 16 GB 2G. First off, go to iTunes and activate genius on there by clicking Genius in the playlist category. Then sync your iPhone. After that, play song and while it's playing, tap the cover art to bring up the scrubber. Look under the scrubber and you will see genius. Have a cookie, you did it! :p

Ah yes, that may explain it. Thanks!

I never turned it on in tunes because I didn't want what, I believe to essentially be, advertising.

I dunno, maybe I've read too much sci-fi, but it just seems like we're giving apple to much connection into our life and computer (see personal info). I "push" apple to everyone I know, but I sorta feel a little whored out with the itunes account attached to my credit card - which has my personal information; my phone and it's personal info; the recently disclosed "remote shutdown" program apple has; all my contacts maybe accessable . This whole cloud thing is just a bit too BORG for me. Don't get me wrong, I REALLY LOVE new gadgets and technology.... but I find it a wee bit unnerving.... it's not like we haven't lost enough privacy rights lately due to the past few years of legislation...

Sorry about the seemingly paranoid rant...:)

But still... Am I the only one who thinks about this stuff?

New iPhone today, updating as I type

I finally bit the bullet and picked up an iPhone today while I was in Indy. For the short amount of time I used it under 2.0.1 I have to say I'm hoping the update will fix a few things that bugged me right out of the box. The biggest upset was that the phone pretty much locked up on me on my drive home. Totally unusable which was really disappointing. The good news is that the update appears to be progressing normally and the phone isn't stuck on the same screen it seems to really, really like :). So now I sit and watch the pinwheel turn.......

Where is the voice recorder!

Where is the voice recorder. Don't tell me nano has now the features that iPhone or iTouch (1st Gen) don't have. Nano is now more advance than the classic isn't supposed to be a strip down version of an ipod?

one change I would like to see:

does 2.1 allow you to accept or decline a call from the lockscreen?

in 2.0.2 if the phone is locked and a call comes in the only option is "slide to answer call". If you are using the phone (in app or on homescreen) then you get the accept or decline option.

Press the sleep button to silence the call, press it twice to send the call right to voicemail.

This has been here since 1.0.0

There are a number of voice recorder apps you can download from the app store (including free ones).

For iphone

I love how you waited 14 hours after the release of 2.1 before telling us this. :)

Regardless, I have been running 2.1 on my iPhone all day and it has been working great. Plus if you have bothered to read the posts in this thread most people are pretty happy with it. This is what 2.0 should have been.

Mine did this too on the first try. I clicked "Update" again and it worked flawlessly, and has since the update.

I'd try turning off the phone, then plug it in and watch it turn back on, then click "Update."

Good luck. Joel.

Since there are over 1300 posts. I figure it is required that all Macrumors users post in this thread.

My update went fine (16GB 1st Gen model). It does seem to respond quicker and I haven't seen any issues. No lags in texting or in contact. (I admit I only have about 25 contacts so I never saw one before.)

Also thanks to the poster for the tip on how to ignore a call and go to voicemail. I have had this iPhone for 7 months and did not know that. You learn so much at this place

Also Genius works on my iPhone. You just have to create a Genius playlist in iTunes first, then sync your phone. Remember that Genius playlist (clicking the icon in Itunes lower right) is different from Genius sidebar which give recommendations from iTunes. You can click the icon next to the icon get rid of the sidebar.

updating apps

probably already been said, but updating apps through the phone is truly impressive now. a fraction of the time it used to take AND it keeps the icon where it was so you don't have to move it when it's finished. :D

I want the one SJ demoed that's what I'm referring to. Come on it's way better than paid version it integrates on iTunes. You feelin' me?

Just wanted to join the mandatory posting thread. Installing 2.1 now.

May the force be with us all. I mean the good force, not the crappy one that has enveloped the modern Lucas.
